Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Regina King In Michael Costello - NAACP Image Awards 2014Regina King was also in attendance at the NAACP Image Awards 2014, hosted at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California on Saturday (February 22).

The film and TV actress wore a black Michael Costello gown.

I can only suppose this design was intended to project a sophisticated, yet edgy, image. But I’m having a hard time moving past the major cutout that rips through the bodice in a rather unflattering manner.

A sheer, cape-back train, all the frou of a too-long full skirt and rather unfortunate fit issues did nothing to warm my affection to this look.

Simone Smith gold jewelry was likely selected to coordinate with the dress’s hardware, but the gigantic hoop earrings only added to the distracting forces at play here.

I did like the pink lip, but sadly that may be the extent of the positivity I can muster here.

Darby Stanchfield In Carolina Herrera - NAACP Image Awards 2014Darby Stanchfield joined her ‘Scandal’ co-star Katie Lowes at the NAACP Image Awards 2014, hosted at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California on Saturday (February 22).

Bringing a flash of a bold, jewel-toned hue to the red carpet, the actress was gorgeous in a green Carolina Herrera scoop-neck gown that was the epitome of chic elegance.

Featuring a taupe, waist-cinching detail and defined, visible seaming, the sleek body-con silhouette slipped into a dramatic, ball-gown train.

Enhancing the look with sparkling diamond statement earrings and rings by H. Stern, she also carried a silver Judith Leiber clutch.

Of course, there is no question this emerald colour fully complemented those flame-red locks, which were tied into a side-parted updo.

Brandy Norwood In Jean Fares Couture - NAACP Image Awards 2014Brandy Norwood attended the NAACP Image Awards 2014, held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California yesterday (February 22).

The singer-actress, who was nominated for her supporting role in ‘The Game,’ was all-out glam in a Jean Fares Couture black lace embellished gown with nude lining.

Enhanced with a hint of sequins and sparkle, the figure-hugging, backless silhouette swept into a full mermaid skirt with a cascade of tulle at the train.

Letting the dress do most of the talking, Brandy just wore a few cocktail rings, finishing the look with a smokey eye, glossy nude lip and a wavy, centre-parted bob.

Naomie Harris In Valentino Pre-Fall - NAACP Awards 2014

Naomie Harris was every bit the golden goddess at the NAACP Image Awards 2014 on Saturday (February 22), which was hosted at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California.

The ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’ actress and nominee positively dazzled in a lacy sheer-effect Valentino Pre-Fall 2014 gold-leaf gown.

Both delicate and dramatic, the plunge-front dress was positively sublime—especially when combined with Naomie’s gorgeous long waves and softly hued, radiant nude makeup.

Not requiring much to make this metallic confection come alive, she accessorized simply with minimal H. Stern jewels, an octagaonal Rauwolf bag and Jimmy Choo heels.

This look had every bit of the magical Midas touch. Do you agree?

Lupita Nyong'o In Givenchy - NAACP Image Awards 2014Lupita Nyong’o took home the Best Supporting Actress trophy at the NAACP Image Awards 2014, hosted Saturday (February 22) at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California.

I always look forward to the ’12 Years a Slave’ star’s red-carpet entrances. Here, she looked to the Givenchy Pre-Fall 2014 collection for inspiration, donning a ruddy, burnt-orange gown with matching Givenchy sandals and a box clutch.

The plunging bodice with harness-like detail was a structured contrast to the multi-pleated, ankle-grazing skirt, which she supplemented with an H. Stern gold cuff and long gold statement earrings.

Working with the rich desert tones, which began with the dress, she completed the effect with metallic bronze eye shadow and a mahogany-red lip—even lacquering her nails in a similar rust shade.

I’m just not sure if I’m yet on board with her new, two-sided ’do, although I appreciate the freshness of the approach.
