Sonequa Martin Green In Christian Dior – 2018 NAACP Image Awards

Sonequa Martin Green was in attendance at the 2018 NAACP Image Awards on Monday (January 15) in Pasadena, California, alongside Kerry Washington and Yara Shahidi.

‘The Walking Dead’ actress was clad in a Christian Dior Resort 2018 dress which stood out for its textured, burlap-like fabric and dynamic pattern.

I applaud her for giving the strong western vibe a glamorous spin with her Roger Vivier clutch and statement jewellery.

Unfortunately, I think the look is over-accessorized with the shoes distracting from the painterly horse print.

The footwear feels very out of place.

Tracee Ellis Ross In Narciso Rodriguez – 2018 NAACP Image Awards

Tracee Ellis Ross is someone who surprises on the red carpet. At the 2018 NAACP Image Awards on Monday (January 15) in Pasadena, California, she opted for a minimalist approach.

I will concede that the rose gold shimmering fabric on her Narciso Rodriguez Pre-Fall 2018 dress is not the first thing people think of when they hear minimal, but there is a simplicity to the slip-like style.

Her Tyler Ellis clutch, Christian Louboutin ‘Follies Resille’ mesh pumps, fresh makeup and sleek braid were in keeping with the pared-back look.

I can see some comparing her to Gal Gadot here.

To pose with her Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series award for ‘Black-ish,’ she changed gears, donning a tawny furry jacket which gave the frock a ’70s vibe.

Storm Reid In Yanina Couture – 2018 NAACP Image Awards

Storm Reid made a playful statement at the 2018 NAACP Image Awards on Monday (January 15) in Pasadena, California, joining Kerry Washington and Halle Berry.

I’m sure there will be some sighing at another sheer dress, but I love the playful illusion her Yanina Couture Fall 2017 frock presented.

It’s sweet and whimsical but still chic from the mix of fabrics and trim. And it’s a piece that suits someone of her 14 years.

The decision to style the dress with ankle-strap heels as opposed to the over-the-knee boots from the runway enhanced the sophistication and allowed the two hems to be fully appreciated.

She is someone I look forward to seeing more of.

Halle Berry In Reem Acra – 2018 NAACP Image Awards

Halle Berry made sure she stood out on the red carpet for the 2018 NAACP Image Awards on Monday (January 15) in Pasadena, California.

I’ve read that many stylists photograph their clients in their looks before they hit the red carpet, so Halle was under no illusion that her Reem Acra Fall 2016 gown was so sheer and so very revealing.

I don’t consider myself a prude by any stretch of the imagination, but I found this look very distasteful for the red carpet. Save this look for the boudoir.

This look booked a one-way ticket to my WDOTY list. Horrendous.

Yara Shahidi In Vera Wang – 2018 NAACP Image Awards

Yara Shahidi’s style continues to leave me in awe. The ‘Grown-ish’ star blew me away at the 2018 NAACP Image Awards on Monday (January 15) in Pasadena, California.

Marrying a trapunto bustier and sheer panels to a dramatic floor-length tiered skirt, this Vera Wang Spring 2018 gown makes a bold statement that boasts gothic finesse in an uber cool manner.

I love how the high neck keeps this look modest and refined, and how the embellished, high trio-braided ponytail adds some cultural significance.

Kerry Washington In Michael Kors Collection – 2018 NAACP Image Awards

Kerry Washington attended the 2018 NAACP Image Awards on Monday (January 15) in Pasadena, California, during the final season of her hit show, ‘Scandal’.

The actress wore a custom black silk-and-wool duchesse gown from Michael Kors Collection, styled with Atelier Tasaki x Prabal Gurung jewels.

I love the overall elegance of this look. I’m surprised this wasn’t an option for the Golden Globes.

The slight problem I have with this custom piece, is that the skirt appears to be a of couple inches too long.

I feel like the skirt would’ve sat a lot better had it been skimming the floor rather than pulling against the floor.

2017 NAACP Image Awards Red Carpet Roundup

More actresses were also seen at the 2017 NAACP Image Awards on Saturday (February 11) in Pasadena, California.

Tracee Ellis Ross: Putting the elongating power of vertical lines to her advantage, the actress wore an Ulyana Sergeenko halter gown accessorized with a touch of quirkiness in her gigantic S-curve earrings.

Serayah: Speaking of gigantic earrings, Serayah’s embellished crosses were even larger. They certainly brought her unique personality to this red Dolce & Gabbana lace-accented gown.
