Teyana Taylor pays homage to Janet Jackson at the 2017 MTV VMAs

Teyana Taylor, who took home the award for Best Choreography at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (August 28), kept her look very simple for the event.

You might think that her abs were the talking point, but actually this cropped white V-neck and wide-legged black trousers were quickly identifed as similar, if not identical, to the one Janet Jackson wore in 1995, when she attended the VMAs and took home multiple awards for her ‘Scream,’ collaboration with her brother, Michael Jackson.

Even the super-short bob haircut was taken onboard when replicating this look.

In fact, the only difference is that Teyana t-shirt was emblazoned with “Underrated 7”, while Janet’s said “Pervert 2”.

What do you think of this twinning moment?

Julia Michaels In Christian Dior – 2017 MTV VMAs

Julia Michaels was the only person I would consider best dressed at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (August 27).

While her tattoos point to a rock chick rebel, her red carpet looks always veer on the dainty, princess side.

On this occasion she was the glimmering ray of light on a dim red carpet wearing a degrade Dior Fall 2017 bustier gown which made her look like she’d dropped from the fashion heavens.

Fifth Harmony @ The 2017 MTV VMAs

Dinah Jane, Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, and Lauren Jauregui of Fifth Harmony attended the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (August 27) in Inglewood, California, opting to showcase their individuals styles on this occasion.

Dinah Jane: While her Roberto Cavalli gown was pure white, she added an edge to her look with her deep red lips and collection of Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Ally Brooke: This Reem Acra outfit was my favourite, as it was the most playful of the quartet. I love the defined silhouette and metallic Casadei pumps.

Normani Kordei: My issue with Normani’s Bourjoisie dress was the overriding feeling of deja vu. Factor in the flattened twins and this didn’t sit too well with me.

Lauren Jauregui: I like the simplicity of Lauren’s Cushnie et Ochs gown and how she let the gown do the talking. She was the most polished of the group.

Am I alone in thinking that two appear dressed for Spring and two for Fall?

Alessandra Ambrosio In Balmain – 2017 MTV VMAs

Alessandra Ambrosio’s Balmain Resort 2018 look at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (August 27) was by far the most shocking.

Why?

Because it didn’t follow her usual less-is-more, sheer, embellished, slit to the hip-bone mould.

Instead she donned a mesh dress with intricate embroidery styled with matching over-the-knee lace up boots.

It was a refreshing change, but at the same time felt very stiff and restricting.

If I was to nit-pick one more thing, I would say the hairstyle doesn’t quite suit the look.

Melanie Brown In Di$count Universe – 2017 MTV VMAs

Melanie Brown joined her ‘America’s Got Talent’ co-judge Heidi Klum on the red carpet for the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (August 27).

Staying on sparkling form, the singer wore a Di$count Universe ‘You’ll Never Own Me’ statement dress with an evil eye feature on the back.

As VMA dresses go, this definitely has all the right requirements, loud, brash, in-your-face, which all describe her Scary Spice persona.

Love it or leave it, it fits her to a tee.

Rihanna wore a similar version of this dress back in 2015.

Heidi Klum In Dundas – 2017 MTV VMAs

When I saw Heidi Klum at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (August 27), I was determined to say something positive about her Dundas Resort 2018 sheer look.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find those words, so tacky, thirsty, desperate, done-to-death and dated will have to do.
