2014 MOBO Awards

2014 MOBOs

The MOBO Awards were held at the SSE Arena on Wednesday (October 22) in London, England.

Mel B: The X Factor judge, who co-hosted the event, took to the red carpet with husband Stephen Belafonte wearing a slashed-to-the-thigh white one-sleeve Julien Macdonald gown featuring gold embellishments. The former Spice Girl isn’t known for her style, but recently she has been making great strides. This takes her back several steps.

Nicole Scherzinger: The singer, who has her own Missguided collection, opted to wear this laser-cut leather frock from Ermanno Scervino styled with Gianmarco Lorenzi ankle boots which just don’t go with the sexy fitted frock.

Menswear Red Carpet Roundup

Menswear

From Scotland to England, the guys suited up in style for a round of red carpets this past weekend.

Tinie Tempah: The British rapper was appropriately dressed in a trendy-dapper Dolce & Gabbana black tux and a perfect bow tie, as he pointed out his Best Hip Hop/Grime MOBO Award at the 18th anniversary MOBO Awards at the Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday. The loafers, worn sans socks, added another shot of attitude.

Tom Hiddleston: At Friday’s ‘Only Lovers Left Alive’ London premiere during the 57th BFI London Film Festival at Odeon West End, the British actor walked the line between bold and basic in an Alexander McQueen black velvet shawl collar dinner jacket, paired with a white evening shirt, skinny black tie, black trousers and black patent shoes.

Colin Farrell: The actor joined Ruth Wilson at the ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ closing night gala premiere, held during the 57th BFI London Film Festival at Odeon Leicester Square last night. He tempered his edgy persona with a more clean-cut look featuring a dark, three-piece Dolce & Gabbana pinstripe number.

2013 MOBO Awards Red Carpet Roundup

2013 MOBO Awards Red Carpet Roundup

Here is a roundup of the rest of the ladies who took to the red carpet for the 2013 MOBO Awards held at The Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday evening.

Laura Mvula: Taking home the Best Female Act—ahead of Jessie J and Rita Ora—Laura also picked up the prize for Best R&B/Soul Artist at the event. Aside from the strange paradox of her oiled chest and matte makeup, the singer wore a loose-fitted, silver-and-gold, zig-zag print jumpsuit styled with a hooded wrap and black platform booties. The styling and that oiled chest put me off from loving what could’ve been a great look.

Sarah-Jane Crawford: The radio presenter, who was also the host for the night alongside Trevor Nelson, wore several looks throughout the night. Sadly, Getty only captured just one. For the red carpet, she wore a Forever Unique ‘Serena’ lace strapless dress with alluring sheer mesh panels on the sides, which made this a real red carpet show stopper. Opting not to overdo her look with unnecessary jewels, she completed her look with soft wavy tresses, a dark manicure and a red pout.

Iggy Azelea: The Australian rapper, who performed at the event, wore a cobalt-blue (a divine colour against her porcelain skin) embellished gown, featuring a central slit and a plunging neckline. Silver Jimmy Choo ‘Lance’ sandals and touches of red via her nails and pout completed her look. I have a feeling this look won’t be well-received, and I was expecting something far more provocative.

Katy B In Christopher Kane – 2013 MOBO Awards

Katy B In Christopher Kane - 2013 MOBO Awards

Katy B also made the trip up north to attend the 2013 MOBO Awards held at The Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday evening.

The dub step, R&B, funky house and UK garage singer always wears a lot of colour. This look is no exception.

She wore a Christopher Kane coloured, print, body-con dress, which draws influence from the vivid display of an MRI brain scan. She styled it with a cheeky ‘Real Talk’ Sophia Webster clutch and black heels by the same designer.

Hannah Warner rings and earrings from Rachel Boston added some subtle bling to her look.

For such a vibrant dress, she perhaps didn’t need the comical clutch. What do you think?

You may remember that this dress has also been worn by Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Hudson.

Kimberly Wyatt In Felder Felder & AQ AQ – 2013 MOBO Awards

Kimberly Wyatt In Felder Felder & AQ AQ - 2013 MOBO Awards

Kimberly Wyatt attended the 2013 MOBO Awards held at The Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland wearing two different looks, which were much improved over her Pride of Britain Awards misstep.

Red Carpet: Her first look was a metallic gold Felder Felder baby-doll dress styled with nude Jimmy Choo shoes and a copper clutch (adding a touch of spark) with a contrasting fuchsia pink lip. While the look might feel a tad twee for some, I love the mixture of colours and textures here. And the lip colour really seals the deal.

Presenting: Slipping into something more sultry—and some might say more grown-up in comparison to the red carpet look—for her presenting duties, Kimberley wore an AQ AQ black jumpsuit with a lightly embellished bodice and plunging neckline. Of the two looks, this one is much preferred as it’s sleeker and sexier.

Which look do you prefer?

Mutya Keisha Siobhan In Sister Jane & Charlotte Taylor – 2013 Mobo Awards

MOBO Awards 2013 - Red Carpet Arrivals

We knew them as the Sugababes, but they are back as Mutya Keisha Siobhan— older and, after much turbulence in the group, hopefully wiser.

The three-piece group, who haven’t aged much since they originally formed in 1998, attended the 2013 MOBO Awards held at The Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday evening. They did what The Saturdays fail to do when they get together— dress well as a girl group.

Siobhan Donaghy: Opting for chic tailoring over a mini dress, the red-haired singer donned a Sister Jane corduroy blazer with delicate teal blue chinoiserie print and black satin lapels; a simple, sleek, long-sleeved, white blouse featuring an eye-catching row of sparkling blue triangle buttons; and black high-waist trousers. River Island high heel loafers accessorized her look with kohl-rimmed eyes and pink lips rounding it out.

Keisha Buchanan: Adding a pop of red to her juicy full lips, the singer wore a Charlotte Taylor, woven jacquard, black-and-white ram print, high-neck, long-sleeved dress that was nipped in the waist. The ultra mini was styled with a sexy pair of caged booties, adding yet more sass to her look.

Mutya Buena: Despite the heavy rainfall, Mutya also wore a mini dress. She selected this Sister Jane blue star-embellished blouson dress styled with ankle strap sandals and oversized hooped earrings.

Of the three, Siobhan’s chic style wins me over with Keisha’s sexy mini at a close second.

Jessie J in Jean-Pierre Braganza – MOBO Awards Nominations Launch

Jessie J in Jean-Pierre Braganza - MOBO Awards Nominations Launch

Prior to the 2013 GQ Men of the Year Awards, Jessie J attended the nominations launch for the MOBO Awards held at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London.

The singer opted for black again, this time wearing a Jean-Pierre Braganza Fall 2013 jumpsuit with a plunging neckline and wrap-tie detail at the waist.

Even with the deep plunge and gold accessories I find this look really boring. I miss the days when she used to have more fun with fashion.

I know many of you disliked her GQ Awards look, but I prefer it over this look.
