2018 Critics’ Choice Awards Red Carpet Roundup

Following the 2018 Golden Globes black dress code, the 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards on Thursday (January 11) showcased a range of colours, styles and designers.

Reese Witherspoon: The actress’s most memorable looks often have bold colours, so I was surprised she opted for a black Prada dress. That being said, I thought the short length really worked for her, with the embellishment adding some vicariousness. The Roger Vivier shoes enhanced the playful mood.

Emma Roberts: Her choppy blonde fringe was certainly a talking point, but the elegant simplicity of her Giorgio Armani gown didn’t go unnoticed. The strapless column fit perfectly. She styled it in a very modern way with the gold-toned accessories and by leaving the neckline bare.

Emilia Clarke: Like Reese, the ‘Game of Thrones’ star opted for a shorter black dress. She wore a Dolce & Gabbana frock with Gianvito Rossi sandals. I would have loved to see the look completed with a red lip as it would have added some warmth while playing up the brand’s Italian film star aesthetic.

Olivia Munn Hosts The 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards

Olivia Munn hosted the 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards on Thursday (January 11), and wore a myriad of delightful looks for the occasion.

Firstly, she hit the carpet in a Prada gown. The minimalist halter style was enlivened by the “dripping” embellishment on the bodice. It could have become a tangled mess, especially as she wore her hair down, but everything came together beautifully. With such an ornate neckline, she accessorized sparingly with a few rings.

Next, the hostess went for head-to-toe embellishment in a Balmain Pre-Fall 2018 mini. The look had all the hallmarks of the brand including a sexy silhouette and a dramatic opulence. Despite the remarkable amount of detailing on the dress, there is still a lightness to the look courtesy of her red lipstick and the high zigzag hemline.

Margot Robbie In Chanel – 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards

At the end of 2017 I asked, where is the love when it come to Margot Robbie’s style? And I was overwhelmed with the response.

With that in mind, I KNOW you will dislike her Chanel Resort 2018 look worn to the 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards on Thursday (January 11).

The ‘I, Tonya’ star did take a risk with this beige and black striped silk pleated gown with an embellished belt, and I have to say I personally love this look.

It’s bold, unexpected, kinda quirky, carefree and seemingly fitting for the occasion.

But I am going to hazard a guess that most will see this as non cohesive, totally all over the place and inconsistent to with what she has presented so far in 2018.

Yara Shahidi In Giambattista Valli Couture – 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards

I know many of you feel that Yara Shahidi was robbed when it comes to Best Dressed Teen of 2017, and I that feeling may be be further compounded when you see her look for the 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards.

The ‘Grown-ish’ star was a vision of perfection wearing a whisper-weight silk-georgette Giambattista Valli Spring 2017 Couture gown, which is a timely choice, as Pantone named ultraviolet light the colour of 2018.

Yara’s gown was also peppered with hues of lavender and ecru to accent the dress with a dose of painterly influence, plus a burst bronze stones which meant she could go minimal on the accessories.

There were many great gowns on this red carpet; this is firmly seated in the top 3.

Saoirse Ronan In Michael Kors Collection – 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards

‘Lady Bird’ actress Saoirse Ronan was back on the red carpet for the 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards on Thursday (January 11) in Santa Monica, California.

If you were hoping for a reprieve from Saoirse’s favoured black cherry lip, you’re out of luck.

With this blush crystal-embroidered gown from Michael Kors Collection, and her pale-skin, there would’ve been a danger of her looking terribly washed out so the strong lip was needed.

Messika jewels and Giuseppe Zanotti sandals completed her ode to old Hollywood look.

Allison Williams In Dolce & Gabbana – 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards

Allison Williams was back on the red carpet for the 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards on Thursday (January 11) in Santa Monica, California, in support of her film, ‘Get Out’.

I’ve been going back and forth with regards to this Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2018 gown, and finally it gets a thumbs up from me, as love that she it omits modern elegance, with a medieval vibe.

I found myself captivated by the boldness of it all – Allison tends to tread a fairly safe path – so to see something this dynamic is really refreshing.

I’m not so keen on the brown guipure lace, but I’m living with it as it complements her brunette hair and I’m grateful for the removal of the feather sleeves.

This will be the marmite look of the night. So, do you love it or hate it?
