Kylie Jenner In Atelier Versace – 2017 Met Gala

Kylie Jenner made quite a scene at the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1).

The gown, which is already being dubbed ‘the Naked Gown’ by the press, is a one-of-a-kind Atelier Versace creation. The Kardashian sister paired the stunning gown with carefully placed Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

This gown really is a work of art. With the intricate beading, the beaded fringe and the sequined appliqués, this gown under many other hands would flounder into a too-busy mess, but be keeping things in the neutral family, Verasce has created a work of art.

And while I certainly mean no offense to Kylie’s perfect makeup and striking Donetella-esque hair color and bob, it almost doesn’t even matter–can anyone take their eyes off that gown?

Elizabeth Banks In Michael Kors Collection – 2017 Met Gala

Elizabeth Banks had my head spinning the minute she stepped onto the carpet at the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1) in New York City.

Not only did the actress debut a new platinum ’do, she donned a custom Michael Kors optical-illusion column dress styled with a Jimmy Choo ‘Box’ clutch and gems from Established Jewelry and Jennifer Fisher.

The funhouse-worthy combination of geometric circles and squares in this graphic gown had nothing short of a psychedelic effect.

My one complaint with this look? I loved it—I think—but, I couldn’t rest my eyes on it for too long without absorbing its dizzying effect.

Haute or headache?

Lena Dunham In Elizabeth Kennedy – 2017 Met Gala

Lena Dunham struck a pose on the blue carpet of the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1).

The writer and actress wore a dramatic Elizabeth Kennedy gown with vintage-inspired diamond jewelry.

I’m lost as to what the connection this tartan-esque look has with the theme, but I’m still into it. Which, if you know me, and my very discontent relationship with Lena’s fashion choices, is a huge shock! The gown is fun, dramatic and Lena carries it off well.

Of course, my praise stops there. Lena’s boring kohl-rimmed eyes looks more emo-teen than high fashion, and her updo is just plain sloppy.

Selena Gomez In Coach – 2017 Met Gala

Selena Gomez made an adorable showing at the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1) in New York City, with The Weeknd on her arm.

Bringing a hint of the boudoir to the blue carpet, she wore a ballet-pink Coach lace slip gown, sprinkled through with girly notes of embellishment.

I can only gather that the choker and that brash swipe of magenta eye shadow were both used as an attempt to bring an avant-garde edge to the sweeter side of this dress.

However, I wish she had skipped such strong styling components, as the punk-pretty juxtaposition just didn’t correspond at all.

Emma Roberts In Diane von Furstenberg – 2017 Met Gala

Emma Roberts turned the blue carpet red at the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1).

The actress wore a red Diane von Furstenberg gown with an accompanying pink DVF stole, red and pink handbag and Monique Péan jewels.

Let’s start with the good, shall we? The classic silhouette and color and impeccable fit of the gown are stunning. I’m delicate lace accents at the straps and hemline are also simply superb. However, I’m afraid the pink stole and the pearl handled bag are just too much together and officially make Emma look like a Barbie. You can’t unsee it now, can you?

I’ve always loved what a hair color chameleon Emma is, and brunette may be my favorite color for her. I also love the choice of the mauve matte lipstick with a red gown.

I can’t wait to hear though–is it just me, or does she look like Met Gala Barbie?

Anna Wintour In Chanel Couture & Bee Shaffer In Alexander McQueen – 2017 Met Gala

Anna Wintour and Bee Shaffer reprised their role as the ultimate mother-daughter duo at the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1) in New York City.

Staying true to form, they wore respective Chanel and Alexander McQueen looks, as they do each year.

As co-host of the evening, Anna was the belle of the ball in a custom Chanel glittering confection that was inspired by the house’s recent Spring 2017 Haute Couture collection. It was a fantasy of golden paillette embellishment, accented by the capricious fancy of a fur-collared skirt. The necklace struck me as quite unnecessary, though, as perhaps she should have followed Coco’s sage advice to remove one thing before leaving the house.

Accompanied by fiancée Francesco Carrozzini, Bee took a romantic turn in a custom Alexander McQueen Fall 2017 tapestry gown by Sarah Burton that had more of a medieval heroine vibe than anything else—especially with her long, lovely braid.

Elle Fanning In Miu Miu – 2017 Met Gala

Elle Fanning was a vision in sky-blue at the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1) in New York City.

Opting for a dreamy princess moment in lieu of anything more boundaries-pushing, the young starlet donned a long and languid Miu Miu gown.

I was actually quite enchanted with the purity of this minimalist offering, only adorned by barely-there Fred Leighton diamond earrings and a bejeweled headband. And, the powdery blue hue was sublime against her alabaster skin.

On theme or not, she made up her own fairy tale for the night.
