Laura Carmichael In Christopher Kane – 2014 British Fashion Awards

Laura Carmichael In Christopher Kane - 2014 British Fashion Awards

Laura Carmichael attended the 2014 British Fashion Awards at the London Coliseum in London, England on Monday (December 1).

The English actress selected a dress from London-based designer Christopher Kane’s Spring 2015 collection.

On paper, the frock has all the right pieces to create a successful look—a vibrant lavender-blue colour, structure and sass, and interesting design detailing courtesy of the controlled explosion of tulle.

But, sadly, none of the pieces translated on the red carpet, once removed from the runway.

In fact, the effect was rather unflattering and dated. Accessories did nothing to remedy the look’s shortcomings, as the shoes were too matchy-matchy and the oversized beige clutch didn’t match at all.

Bee Shaffer In Alexander McQueen & Anna Wintour In John Galliano for Maison Martin Margiela

Bee Shaffer In Alexander McQueen & Anna Wintour In John Galliano for Maison Martin Margiela

Bee Shaffer and Anna Wintour were every bit the voguish mother-daughter duo on the red carpet of the 2014 British Fashion Awards, hosted on Monday (December 1) at the London Coliseum in London, England.

Bee Shaffer: She paid homage to the label that won the evening’s Red Carpet Designer nod with her Alexander McQueen Spring 2015 metallic gold frock. Featuring a harness-inspired bodice and A-line skirt, the dress meshed its Midas touch with a power-warrior spirit and feminine edge, especially when styled with that super-sleek ponytail.

Anna Wintour: Coordinating but not matching her daughter, Anna donned a John Galliano for Maison Martin Margiela floor-length, printed black gown and furry ivory shrug as she picked up the Outstanding Achievement Award from the designer himself.

Perhaps both sets of sandals could have been improved upon, but I’ll focus on the ankles up. Like mother, like daughter?

Rihanna In Stella McCartney – 2014 British Fashion Awards

Rihanna also attended the 2014 British Fashion Awards on Monday (December 1) at England’s London Coliseum.

The boundaries-pushing songstress again played up the provocative angle in her Stella McCartney oversized, plunging tuxedo blazer—and little else—save for black stockings and some serious bling.

Her diamond choker by Giuseppe Zanotti was plenty attention-grabbing, if perhaps unnecessary. But, even so, her neon-lime nails managed to get a piece of the action, too.

While the suggestive ensemble was signature Rihanna (and, in fact, she looked as if she might have simply borrowed Emma Watson’s coat from earlier), her more natural makeup and simply styled updo was altogether refreshing, allowing her true beauty to shine.

For that reason alone, I’m a fan.

Nicole Scherzinger In Julien Macdonald – 2014 British Fashion Awards

Nicole Scherzinger was joined at the 2014 British Fashion Awards by her handsome date, Formula 1 race car driver Lewis Hamilton, as the duo took to the red carpet at England’s London Coliseum on Monday (December 1).

The entertainer wore a Julien Macdonald Spring 2015 silvery, slightly transparent frock with allover floral applique.

Perhaps one of the lower wattage looks from the designer who is no stranger to glitz and glam, the shimmery pencil dress featured an asymmetrical, ruffled neckline that contributed a youthful femininity to the sexier elegance of the design.

Letting the dress be the main attraction, Nicole opted for nude heels and only accessorized with a deep plum lip to bring out the accent embroidery.

Rita Ora In Tom Ford – 2014 British Fashion Awards

Rita Ora In Tom Ford - 2014 British Fashion Awards

Rita Ora couldn’t be missed as she sauntered down the red carpet at the 2014 British Fashion Awards on Monday (December 1) at the London Coliseum in England.

The British entertainer echoed the Tom Ford Spring 2015 runway, wearing an exact replica of the racy number that took to the catwalk.

Featuring an embellished black leather top, side cutouts and sheer midriff paneling, the slit-to-there gown had all the rebel swagger we’d expect from Rita.

Because the bondage-inspired design clearly didn’t have enough drama, the platinum-blonde singer added thigh-high stockings, a long black scarf and sky-high, metallic platform sandals. It was all a bit much, but those shoes may have pushed me over the edge.

Missing in action was her signature red lip—not that I’m complaining.

Seductive or several steps too far?
