Jessica Chastain In Roland Mouret – 2013 BAFTA Awards

Jessica Chastain In Roland Mouret - 2013 BAFTA AwardsFeeling the blues (in the best way possible), Jessica Chastain made sartorial magic on the red carpet of the 2013 BAFTA Awards on Sunday at the Royal Opera House in London, England.

The ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ star and Leading Actress nominee completely blew me away in her breathtaking sapphire gown by Roland Mouret.

Where to even begin? The colour was electric. The fit was impeccable. And the structured architecture of the asymmetrical bodice was fresh and altogether sublime.

Even in an evening where umbrellas proved to be the best (and most popular) accessory, Jessica shone brightly.

Complementary Harry Winston pendant earrings and a simple bracelet didn’t impede the dramatic effect of the gown.

Once again, Jessica’s side-swept, flame-red waves and matte crimson lip were picture perfect, especially with the blue.

Sarah Jessica Parker In Elie Saab – 2013 BAFTA Awards

Sarah Jessica Parker In Elie Saab 2013 BAFTA AwardsSarah Jessica Parker attended the 2013 BAFTA Awards on Sunday at the Royal Opera House in London, England.

You could say her dark Elie Saab ensemble from the Pre-Fall 2013 collection somewhat played to the cold and rainy mood.

It was a solid jumpsuit in theory, with its structured bodice and waist detail and the mini keyhole, all paired with plain black pumps. (SJP was no doubt much warmer than some of the other stars on the red carpet, too.)

But the end result just didn’t translate quite as dynamically for this actress.

In this case, the addition of the metallic gold belt from the designer’s lookbook might have provided a sleeker, waist-defining edge.

The diamond necklace, which perhaps was added to dress up the look, didn’t work well with the high neckline.

All in all, I couldn’t help but be a bit underwhelmed, if only because I was expecting a bolder statement, especially given the recent looks (remember the furry blue Misha Nonoo ensemble and the exhilarating fuchsia Maison Martin Margiela gown) we’ve seen from this stylista.

No matter; SJP will no doubt up the style-forward ante on another occasion.

Juno Temple In Stella McCartney – 2013 BAFTA Awards

2013BAFTA_JunoTemple1

For the 2013 BAFTA Awards, held at the Royal Opera House in London, Juno Temple selected a no-fuss ensemble to celebrate her ‘Rising Star Award’ nomination.

Already returning back to her blonde roots, Juno wore a Stella McCartney gown.

Cinched at the waist with wide black belt, the white in the front and cream in the back gown was wasn’t my favourite look on this red carpet

It would’ve worked perfectly at the Independent Spirit Awards, but failed to set this event alight.

Some covetable extras, like some statement-making accessories and distinguished extras, may have added a high-gloss finish to this look. Sadly, her vintage-style clutch did not complement her streamlined dress.

Anne Hathaway In Burberry – 2013 BAFTA Awards

Anne Hathaway In Burberry - 2013 BAFTA AwardsAfter a stunning sweep down the red carpet line at Saturday’s ‘Les Miserables’ photo call and premiere at the Berlinale Film Festival, Anne Hathaway headed to England for another grand entrance at the 2013 BAFTA Awards, hosted on Sunday at the Royal Opera House in London.

The Leading Actress nominee continued her ode to classic glamour, appropriately opting this time for a selection from a British designer, Burberry.

With this column gown, she kept the monochrome trend she’s preferred this season going strong.

The cool short sleeves and the shiny circular studs on the bodice kept the straightforward dress interesting enough. But ornamental bangles seemed a bit out of place for this sleekly modern look.

Anne’s chic pixie crop allows her to wear high necklines like this one well, while her bubblegum-pink lippie added a nice shot of colour to her bright smile on the red carpet.

Amy Adams In Elie Saab Couture – 2013 BAFTA Awards

Amy Adams was the picture of haute glamour at the 2013 BAFTA Awards, held at The Royal Opera House on Sunday in London.

Any star knows you can never go wrong with an Elie Saab gown. So Amy, nominated for the ‘Best Supporting Actress’, opted for a smoldering number from the designers Fall 2012 Couture collection for her grand entrance.

The lustrous ebony evening frock with Chantilly lace and exquisite beading hit a high note, as did her top knot.

A daring front slit added an unexpected touch of sex appeal to the look and gave us a peek at her gold Casadei sandals.

Does Amy make it onto your best dressed list?

Laura Whitmore In Alexandre Vauthier Couture – 2013 BAFTA Awards

Laura Whitmore In Alexandre Vauthier Couture - 2013 BAFTA Awards

The 2013 BATFAs took place in London tonight and you won’t be surprised to learn that it is raining.

It may worry the Hollywood stars, but Irish TV presenterLaura Whitmore will be very used to a rain soaked red carpet.

She donned a black Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2012 Couture keyhole jumpsuit, which was presented as a gown with a side slit.

The runway version is more appropriate for the Grammys, so I’m glad Laura picked this more sophisticated version.

Gold cuffs, wavy locks, a hot red lip colour and marine-blue rings on both hands provided the finishing touches.

The rings feel very out of place but everything else works for me.

Alicia Vikander In Christian Dior – 2013 BAFTA Awards

2013BAFTA_AliciaVikander.jpg-

Alicia Vikander embraced a minimalist aesthetic at the 2013 BAFTA Awards, held at The Royal Opera House in London on Sunday evening.

While most of us would have expected the BAFTA Rising Star Award nominee to glam it up on the red carpet for the big night, the young Swedish actress chose to keep things relatively restrained.

Alicia wore a black sleeveless round-neck Christian Dior gown with an asymmetrical hem and eye-catching cut-out back detail. She teamed her look with a pair of classic satin pointy-toe pumps and dangling earrings.

This choice may not have been high on impact, but I think this red carpet rising star looked stunning even without the bells and whistles. If I could change anything, it would be to infuse a bit of drama to her hair style.
