Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Lupita Nyong'o In Christian Dior Couture - 2014 BAFTAsLupita Nyong’o dressed to impress at the 2014 BAFTAs today (February 16), which were hosted at The Royal Opera House in London, England.

The ’12 Years a Slave’ actress yet again flexed her fashion muscle in a dazzling, emerald-green gown from the Christian Dior Fall 2013 Couture collection, worn with Christian Louboutin heels.

The rich, jewel-toned hue had me at hello. Add to that the metallic belt and the long, theatrical ball-gown train, and this is what red-carpet dressing is really all about.

No doubt using the belt as inspiration, she accessorized with Ana Khouri gold ‘Ildeman’ cuffs and gold-and-pearl ‘Laura’ earrings, thankfully not going overboard with a necklace.

Once again stunning not only with her dramatic style, but also her makeup, she complemented the look with a pretty magenta lip and smoky charcoal eye.

Laura Carmichael In Erdem - 2014 BAFTAsLaura Carmichael was also at the 2014 BAFTAs on Sunday (February 16) at The Royal Opera House in London, England.

Eschewing a long gown in favour of a shorter cocktail dress, the ‘Downton Abbey’ star wore an Erdem Pre-Fall 2014 strapless, forest-green frock.

Featuring the label’s signature florals, this greenery was of the darker, moodier variety, although the specks of sparkling embellishment brought a lighter note to the design.

That embellishment was really all there was to be found here, as she skipped any sign of statement jewels, completing the look with Gianvito Rossi black-and-metallic strap sandals and casual, half-up, half-down hair.

Simple and chic, or were you left wanting more from this look?

Sai Bennett In Chanel - 2014 BAFTAsSai Bennett attended the 2014 BAFTAs, hosted Sunday (February 16) at The Royal Opera House in London, England.

The rising starlet stepped out in a sprightly white gown from the Chanel Resort 2014 collection, studded with pearls on the mock peplum waist. You could nearly imagine Coco Chanel herself wearing this languid, ’30s-inspired dress, with its near-boyish charm and straight-laced silhouette.

Shown on the runway dripping in pearls on the runway, Sai simplified the styling by removing the strands and instead wearing a statement, giant pearl earring set from Chanel Fine Jewelry.

Long, crimped waves, swept to the side, along with an enticing fuchsia lip, finished off the look with vintage-modern flair.

Gillian Anderson In Vintage Balmain Couture - 2014 BAFTAsGillian Anderson took to the red carpet at the 2014 BAFTAs, hosted Sunday (February 16) at The Royal Opera House in London, England.

The actress selected a vintage 1949 Balmain haute couture gown from WilliamVintage.

Colour-blocked in shades of blue, the strapless dress featured a tiered bodice, which tied in the back with scarf-like panels that floated to the bottom of the navy ball skirt.

In keeping with the blue theme, she wore matching gemstone and diamond necklace and earrings.

Even so, something seemed to be missing here. Perhaps a statement lip lacquer, or a different ‘do, would have made all the difference.

Ruth Wilson In Antonio Berardi - 2014 BAFTAsRuth Wilson was one of the first on the red carpet at the 2014 BAFTAs, held today (February 16) at The Royal Opera House in London, England.

The British actress left the gowns for the rest of the girls, instead suiting up in metallic, menswear-inspired garb from Antonio Berardi’s Pre-Fall 2014 collection.

Staying relatively true to the lookbook styling, she wore the structured, iridescent silver blazer and cropped pants as presented with the cummerbund-inspired peplum piece and white blouse.

Red toe-cap heels brought out the flash of red in the folded ruffle detail of the jacket.

The glam-rock edge was wholly present and accounted for, but she took it even further with her wavy and wild, sideswept ’do.

Are you missing the dress, or do you like this shiny, mannish moment?
