Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Sally Field is the one star during awards season whose red carpet style has been hard to predict.

On Sunday she took to the red carpet at the Royal Opera House in London for the 2013 BAFTA Awards wearing an Antonio Berardi Fall 2012 gown with De Beers jewels.

With a conservative plunge and a flattering fit, Sally’s anthracite grey gown with lace macramé panel detailing couldn’t be more age, season and weather appropriate.

Like most stars at this event Sally kept accessories to a minimum, opting to carry the must have accessory at this rain soaked event – a brolly.

Thandie Newton in Louis Vuitton - 2013 BAFTA AwardsThandie Newton must have been in a seductive mood, as she hit the red carpet at Sunday’s 2013 BAFTA Awards, held at London’s Royal Opera House.

The British actress followed the lace trend with her black Louis Vuitton halter gown.

She also capitalized on that frequently seen thigh-high slit, not to mention the sheer and solid obsession, as the itty bitty LBD was overlaid with see-through laciness.

Thandie paired the dress with a black handbag and gold Art-Deco-inspired earrings.

A bold red lip and tightly wound, side-swept curls finished this vamp-star look, although the overall effect may have translated more sleekly with a simple updo.

Gemma Arteton cut a graphic figure at the 2013 BAFTA Awards, held at The Royal Opera House on Sunday in London.

Keeping her nude-and-black velvet striped diagonal one-shoulder Celia Kritharioti Haute Couture 2013 gown simple, the British actress didn’t add any fussy accessories.

A lovely updo and subtle makeup completed her look.

As lovely as this look is, I think many others stood out above Gemma at this event.

Andrea Riseborough In Vivienne Westwood - 2013 BAFTA AwardsBritish actress Andrea Riseborough also opted for yellow to chase away the chill at the 2013 BAFTA Awards, hosted on Sunday at the Royal Opera House in London, England.

After her frou-frou- and floral-filled turn in a Chanel Resort 2013 frock at the BAFTA nominees party, Andrea took a harder line with her more straight-laced Vivienne Westwood Couture gown styled with De Beers jewels.

The strapless creation still had some frill factor, though, with the ribbon-like detailing at the bodice.

However, the overall effect wasn’t as polished as it perhaps could have been, as the dress appeared a bit rumpled and wrinkled.

The contrast between Andrea’s jet-black hair, which was haphazardly pulled into an updo, as well as her black handbag and black lacquered nails was all a bit harsh against the yellow.

Such a colour combination should perhaps be left to the bumblebee.

Marion Cotillard In Christian Dior Couture - 2013 BAFTA AwardsEngaging in somewhat of a red-carpet sprint, a visibly chilled Marion Cotillard battled the elements as she quickly posed amid umbrellas and photographers’ flashes at the 2013 BAFTA Awards on Sunday at the Royal Opera House in London.

After wearing a black-and-white cocktail dress from the Christian Dior Pre-Fall 2013 collection at the BAFTA nominees party, she played the Dior card yet again—except in far more dramatic fashion.

Wearing a confection from designer Raf Simons’ Spring 2013 Couture runway, the ‘Rust and Bone’ Leading Actress nominee made a true fashion-girl move; she even eschewed a shrug or overcoat to better show off the sunny yellow gown that could have cleared overcast skies with its radiant colour.

The billowing drape of the dress and the peek of skin from the sheer side panel brought the look into style-forward territory and made it a bit of a red-carpet risk.

The addition of a diamond necklace and Marion’s retro waves and red lip delivered a touch of old Hollywood glam. But I keep wondering if this look may have fared even better without the necklace.

You may recall that Jennifer Lawrence wore a navy gown from this collection at the 2013 SAG Awards.

Were you applauding for Marion’s entrance, or did it come apart at the seams?
