BAFTA Men

Keeping it classic with black tuxedos and bow ties was prevalent on the red carpet at the EE British Academy Film Awards in London on Sunday. But a handful of biggest stars took a chance with navy colours and velvet fabrics. The risks paid off – for the most part.

Ben Affleck: In addition to taking home the award for Best Director, Bendefinitely took home the award for best male grooming. That dark beard looked amazing with his Gucci Made-to-Order midnight blue velvet Marseille tuxedo. His tux displayed two buttons and notch lapels. Along with his tux, Ben wore a skinny collared white shirt, a matching flat tie in a four-in-hand knot, and black leather lace ups.

Bradley Cooper: Everything below the neck looked incredible on the star of ‘Silver Linings Playbook.’ Wearing a Ferragamo midnight navy three-piece tux with black satin peak lapels, Bradley looked every bit the part of a Best Actor nominee. He even paired it with a bow tie that he needs to straighten out. Unfortunately, it looks like the rain got to him and his hair looks a bit sloppy, considering he’s wearing a tux.

Chris Tucker: If there was one man on the red carpet that ruined his look with the little things, it was Chris Tucker. The navy colour looks great, but he went from looking like a stud to looking like a stooge thanks to his accents. Chris is great, funny actor, but it takes a specific type of confidence and power to pull off lapels that wide – Chris doesn’t have it. And that droopy, oversized bow tie isn’t helping matters.

2013BAFTA_HayleyAtwell

Hayley Atwell joined Sally Field in celebrating the designs of Antonio Berardi on the red carpet at the Royal Opera House on Sunday evening, for the 2013 BAFTA Awards.

The British actress also selected a monochrome look from Berardi’s Fall 2012 collection, but this black-and-white gown with paillette embroidery has a little more bite and is a lot more fashion-forward.

Along with the embroidery, I love the swirl pattern and the peplum detail which narrows her waist.

A black clutch and wavy tresses completed her look.

All-in-all, this was a very well dressed event.

Saoirse Ronan In Christopher Kane - 2013 BAFTA Awards

Saoirse Ronan opted for a sweet look by an edgy designer for the 2013 BAFTA Awards on Sunday evening in London.

The Irish actress wore a Christopher Kane Pre-Fall 2013 black tulle gown with vibrant blue floral embroidery; styling the look with a simple top-knot.

A similar – shorter – version of the dress appears in the look book from this Pre-Fall collection.

Alice Eve In Alessandra Rich - 2013 BAFTA AwardsEnglish actress Alice Eve continued the sheer and solid graphic trend, also flaunted by Gemma Arterton and Zawe Ashton, at the 2013 BAFTA Awards hosted at the Royal Opera House in London.

She rocked a figure-hugging Alessandra Rich Spring 2013 gown, featuring flame-like detailing at the top.

But when paired with her teased, pompadour hair and sultry nude makeup, this design seemed a bit out of place for the awards ceremony. Another look for the Grammys, perhaps?

The peep-toe shoes with their clunky platforms did this dress no favours, but I’m not sure that the stark white pumps and belt from the lookbook would have fared better.
