Miriam Yeung In Saint Laurent - 2013 Hong Kong Film Awards

Miriam Yeung shows off her Best Actress award at the 2013 Hong Kong Film Awards on Saturday.

For her second look of the night, the award-winning actress chose the Saint Laurent ‘Le Smoking’ Spring 2013 gown.

While I completely understand the need to close up this neckline a bit from how it came down the runway, in so doing, Miriam lost a bit of the visual appeal. With such a lot of black fabric, the extra skin accentuated by the stunning necklace on the runway adds a cool boho feel to the gown.

Without that boho accessorizing, Miriam just looks a bit matronly.

What do you think might have boosted this look up to the next level for Miriam?

Elanne Kwong In Elie Saab - 2013 Hong Kong Film Awards

Elanne Kwong looked elegant on the red carpet at the 2013 Hong Kong Film Awards on Saturday.

The actress and singer wore a simple lace Elie Saab gown.

While Elanne looks flawlessly chic in this graceful gown, I can’t help but feel like it’s just lacking a little spark.

Her hair, makeup and smile are all charming, but I wish there was one piece of color or interest here.

I’m thinking a bold red lip would have taken this to another level of stunning, but I would even settle of a red mani for a little pop.

What do you think? Just right, or not enough?

Sammi Cheng In Valentino - 2013 Hong Kong Film Awards

Sammi Cheng attended the 2013 Hong Kong Film Awards on Saturday.

The best actress nominee looked lovely in a demure, long-sleeved Valentino gown.

Although there is a lot going on here with the beading, the applique, the structural sleeve details and yoke, this gown still works, because of the simple nude and white color palette.

And by not accessorizing at all, Sammi proves herself to be a red carpet pro, since any jewelry would have overpowered this already powerful look.

I really like this dramatic-yet-delicate gown. Do you?

Carina Lau In Valentino Couture - 2013 Hong Kong Film Awards

Carina Lau wore red on the red carpet of the 2013 Hong Kong Film Awards on Saturday.

The actress wore a Valentino Couture Fall 2012 gown and carried a transparent Valentino ‘Mimetic’ minaudière.

Accompanying her husband Tony Leung Chiu Wai, who was nominated in the Best Actor category, Carina went for a simple “plus one” look versus a show-stopper, and I’m not crazy about it.

The combination of the heavy fabric and the fact that everything is so covered up makes this look like a coat rather than a dress to me.

Even the slightly shorter sleeve on the model gives this a little bit more interest than what we see on Carina.

What do you think–a solid, red carpet choice or just a little too dowdy?

Janice Man In Stéphane Rolland - 2013 Hong Kong Film Awards

Janice Man looked stunning on the red carpet of the 2013 Hong Kong Film Awards on Saturday evening.

The actress and model wore an asymmetric, dual-coloured Stéphane Rolland gown from the Fall 2012 Couture collection.

This dress would be extremely hard for most women to pull off, but it absolutely works on Janice, thanks in part to her pin-thin figure.

The two-tone colours, the draping and the long-sleeve make this totally unique and a major stand-out, and Janice was smart to pair the dress with the exact belt as was worn on the runway, as it’s the perfect accent piece.

She was also smart to opt out of the gloves worn by the model on the runway, as they are distracting and take the dress from stand-out to over-done.

This is one of my favorite red carpet looks in a very long time. I applaud Janice for taking the risk with this dress, because in my book, the risk totally paid off.

Miriam Yeung In Elie Saab - 2013 Hong Kong Film Awards

Miriam Yeung attended the 2013 Hong Kong Film Awards on Saturday evening.

The actress and singer wore a berry, jewel-encrusted Elie Saab Spring 2013 gown and carried a silver Jimmy Choo ‘Tube’ clutch.

Nominated for a Best Actress award at Hong Kong’s equivalent to the Oscars, it was important for Miriam to really shine, and I think she looks stunning in this simple but eye-catching gown.

I love that she chose silver as her accent colour, and I think the bracelet and clutch are perfect, however I’m really not loving the necklace.

With this deep v-neckline, I think she should have either left off the necklace altogether, or gone for something longer. As it is, this collarbone-grazing length breaks up the lines the gown creates and just looks out of place.
