The singer wore a Rafael Cennamo merlot silk taffeta gown, with an exaggerated and dramatic ruffled train which completely took over the stage.
Prior to the event the dress was kept a huge – no pun intended – secret. At the rehearsal on Friday the deal was: no photos, no video and no describing the gown.
“The dress that I’ll be wearing during my performance is … It’s big,” she said. “There’s a lot — a lot of dress.”
Best Dressed Award
Carrie Underwood always looks fantastic on the red carpet, but I feel like she deliberately stepped it up a gear for this event.
The ‘hint of pink’ one-shouldered Randi Rahm gown was so beautiful, elegant and so far away from what I expected, that she was my best dressed for this event.
Golden Girl/Hips Don’t Lie Award
Kellie Pickler also opted for a golden gown. She looked outstanding, as she showed off her curves in her gold strapless sequin fish scale Zuhar Murad Haute Couture Spring 2009 gown with dramatic train, whilst carrying a Daniel Swarovski gold clutch.
What an absolute knock out. I am amazed at how smokin’ hot her body looks here.
Best Dressed Teen Award
Taylor Swift also changed gears. I was also expecting a blinged out, metallic, heavily embellished dress from her, but instead we got this gorgeous red hot Angel Sanchez Spring 2009 one-shouldered gown, which she complimented with red lipstick.
My first I thought was the gown needed something to nip in her waist, but on hindsight it would have ruined the sleek line of the gown.
The singer wore her dress with Neil Lane jewels, and a VBH envelope clutch.
2 For 2 Can’t Hate Award
I can’t hate Miley Cyrus’ clay grey Monique Lhullier one-shouldered gown, which was jeweled embellished, but I can really hate the hair.
Yes she is a teen, but side pony’s are not acceptable pass the age of 5.
Most Predictable Award
I love Nicole Kidman for the instant glamour she brings to every event, but I would really love to see her embrace other designers more often.
Again we see her another L’Wren Scott gown, from the designers Fall 2009 collection. The turtle-neck gown, with a cut-out back, and revealing split was a great look for the actress, who was at this event to support her husband.
Oh, did I mention L’Wren Scott is her stylist?
Best Carrie Underwood Impersonation Award
As much as I love Julianne Hough’s gold and bronze beaded v-neck Zuhair Murad gown, I just keep thinking that this is something Carrie Underwood would have worn to this same event maybe 2 years ago.
Gorgeous girl, gorgeous dress, but the de ja vu’s got me thinking mmmm?
Just OK Award
After Jennifer Nettles amazing dress at the Grammy’s this gorgeous lilac plunge-neck gown feels like a safe choice. I would have liked to see her wear something more lively, to go with her fun loving personality.
She looks hot though.
Most Disappointing Award
With all the colour on the red carpet, I am surprised LeAnn Rimes opted for a LBD.
I love the serpent ring and gladiators though.
Best White Gown Award
There were a lot of white gowns on this red carpet, but I particularly loved Jennifer Love Hewitt’s. She wore a white flowing, ethereal Robert Rodriguez halter gown, with a tiered bodice.
I also loved that she wore her hair up.
Best Clutch Award
Miranda Lambert wore a racy red strapless Nicole Miller minidress, but I feel myself more drawn to her gold Mary Norton clutch.
On Trend Award
Martina McBride follows the trend of night wearing a white flowing Badgley Mischka gown. The gown was embellished with embroidered turquoise beads and jewels on her shoulder.
De Ja Vu/Re-Run Award
Marissa Miller should know that re-runs at major events are frowned upon. January Jones wore this very same Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2009 dress to the Emmy Awards last year.
Next time Marissa, please do your red carpet homework.
Emma Watson attended the Patrick Demarchelier Photo Exhibition Opening Party last week during Fashion Week, and she surprisingly wore the same playsuit.
I would not have thought this was Emma’s style, but I guess the young actress is still experimenting with fashion.
She wore her playsuit with a black blazer and Christian Louboutin Button-Web Strappy Sandals.
I much prefer Karolina’s overall look, so she wins this for me.

Nicole Kidman who has been sporting the world smallest baby bump for a woman who is 7 months pregnant, and this has been talked about a lot in the press.
Last night she was determined to accentuate her tummy at this event in a strapless YSL knee-length dress.
Taylor Swift wore a white strapless Grecian Marchesa gown, which made her glow. I love that she kept her neck bare, as beading on the bodice is enough to make her shine.
The 18 year old singer won the Best New Female Vocalist at the ceremony.
Taylor Swift had the monopoly on Badgley Mischka for the last 2 events, but Carrie Underwood walked the orange carpet in this stunning fringed Badgley Mischka Fall 2008 dress.
LeAnn Rimes looked every inch a star in her lavender J. Mendel Spring 2008 gown with a flowing train.
Kellie Pickler shined brightly in her golden gown.
Karolina Kurkova was a strange attendee at this event, but it turns out she was on presenting duties. She arrived on the orange carpet in a backless Marc Jacobs Spring 2008 playsuit and a multi-coloured clutch.
Britain’s Best 2008, London
Mischa Barton did not attend her premiere in Cannes, because she thinks the movie is so bad. So she got on a plane to London and attended this event wearing a black lace Marchesa Fall 2008 dress with a feathered hem.
Maybe acting is just not your thing Mischa.
Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig won the Best Business in Britain’s Best 2008 Awards, despite them operating their business from New York.
Of course the ladies are wearing their own designs. Georgina wore a white feathered Marchesa Fall 2007 dress which is accentuated with a black satin belt. Keren wore wearing a black Marchesa Spring 2008 tunic dress with gold sequined detail.

It is hard to critique the Country Music Awards when there are some who think it is acceptable to leave the house like this. Her name is Laura Bryna and I have no idea why.

I am shocked…SHOCKED Kellie Pickler pulled this out the bag. I was already getting ready to diss her when I knew this event was happening, but for once she looks very nice. Even the twins are under control tonight.

Not loving the long shot as I am not loving the dress. Carrie Underwood was the queen of the night, so she should have worn a better red carpet dress.

I LOVE Sara Ramirez. She has curves, she loves her curves and she knows how to dress her curves, plus she is incredible beautiful.
