Which Was Your Favourite New York Fashion Week Look?

Catherine Kallon New York Fashion Week

I haven’t been to New York for fashion week for a few seasons as Fall takes place during awards season and Spring lands while Venice, Toronto and Deauville Film Festival are taking place, but I was determined to return for the Spring 2015 season.

Dressing up and sharing my looks was a lot of fun, so I really appreciate your comments; good and bad.

I loved all the looks, however, I can just about narrow my favourites down to five.

BOSS Spring 2015 Front Row

BOSS Spring 2015 Front Row

Many young stars flocked to see Jason Wu’s first spring runway show as BOSS’s new creative director. Of those on the front row of the Spring 2015 BOSS show were Zoe Saldana and Kate Bosworth.

Zoe Saldana: The pregnant actress wore head-to-toe BOSS, and opted for an easy, elb0w-length black v-neck dress. She paired the look with black and white sandals and a large white handbag.

Kate Bosworth: Kate also went with head-to-toe BOSS, and the dreamy seafoam colored satin, sleeveless dress with sheer overlay skirt is a fun and feminine choice. I also love her coral lip color with the dress, and that she, too, opted for the same black and white sandals as Zoe.

Naeem Khan Spring 2015 Front Row

Naeem Khan Spring 2014 Front Row
There was no shortage of glittering style statements at the Naeem Khan Spring 2015 fashion show held on Tuesday (Sept. 9) during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City, where the frow-list included a bevy of beauties all outfitted in Naeem Khan, natch.

Jamie Chung: Stunning in this metallic beaded shift dress, the starlet assured that all eyes were on the decorative design that graced her figure by skipping the jewels and wearing nude sandals. The additional flourish came courtesy of her asymmetrical, side-swept curl.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum: The actress likewise wore a sparkling dress, hers a satiny forest-green frock with an intricately embellished bib. A casually pulled-back updo and light-grey sandals completed the ensemble.

Donna Karan Spring 2015 Front Row

Donna Karan Spring 2015 Front Row

Camila Alves and Caitlin FitzGerald were on the front row of the Donna Karan Spring 2015 fashion show, held during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2015 in New York City on Monday (September 8). The two lovelies couldn’t have been better coordinated in their Donna Karan Fall 2014 dresses.

Camila Alves: Her dark grey, textural frock featured an exploded, geometric grid pattern of cutouts and sensual sheer detailing, which she accessorized with black sandals. Her tresses blended right in to the dress, so an updo would have been preferred here.

Caitlin FitzGerald: Also flaunting the peekaboo look, Caitlin’s black number had a slightly more streamlined silhouette and perhaps a touch more blatant sultry appeal with sheer panels tracing below her hip. Her makeup was barely detectable, but a dress like this almost demands a smoky eye or the pop of a bold lip as the finishing touch. Do you agree?

Monique Lhuillier Spring 2015 Front Row

Monique Lhuillier Front Row

The Monique Lhuillier Spring 2015 show at New York Fashion Week saw plenty of stylish stars sitting front and center on the front row.

Sophia Bush: The stylish star wore a black high neck dress with cap sleeves and a sheer embroidered overlay from the designer’s Fall/Winter 2014 collection. She paired the some funky jewels, a white box clutch and a pair of aqua pumps. Because of the dress’s formal, dramatic nature, it was fun to see the added interest from the accessories.

Louise Roe: A black, one-shoulder jumpsuit with lace sleeve detailing from the designer’s Pre-Fall 2014 collection looked stunning on Louise, and her bright red nails and layers of gold bangles added the perfect pizzaz to the already sexy style.

Rihanna In Adam Selman – Adam Selman Spring 2015

Rihanna In Adam Selman - Adam Selman Spring 2015

Rihanna attended the Adam Selman presentation at Algus Greenspon Gallery, held during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2015 on Friday (September 5).

Clearly inspired by the designer’s spring runway, she flaunted a non-printed version of the ruffled, button-down Spring 2015 shirt-dress that took to the runway.

She added some attitude to the flirty, babydoll frock with an Ana Khouri 18k gold and three pearl ‘Jane’ ear cuff, along with a doorknocker pearl cocktail rings, a long double-wrapped strand of pearls and that pile of tumbling curls.

As for those strappy, laser-cut white Christian Louboutin ‘Impera’ heels… j’adore.

With their all-white outfits, the songstress and Selman do create a fun photo op, likewise making me appreciate her lighthearted look even more.

Cool or too cutesy?

New York Fashion Week Beauty Trend: Fresh, Dewy Skin

New York Fashion Week Beauty Trend Fresh, Dewy Skin

There’s nothing better than clear, fresh-looking skin–and we saw exactly that during fashion week. From subtly sculpted cheeks to the perfect placement of highlighter, this look is not only wearable, but it’s totally easy to imitate.

The look at Diane von Furstenberg was ballerina chic. Makeup artist James Kaliardos focused on the contouring of the models’ cheeks by using different shades of concealer. He widened their eyes with a nude liner just on the waterline and topped off the lids with a creamy gray shade and a mauve lip hue for additional sheen. Finishing off with coats of mascara, he truly made the models look as if they were ready for their final bow.

Diane Kendal, for Prabal Gurung, skipped powder to keep a dewy finish for her look. She started with MAC Cosmetics Face and Body foundation as a base and then layered on a rosy cream blush, for the ultimate “flushed” appearance. Brows were brushed up, for a touch of unruly youth. Kendal wanted very little color in the lips, so she applied just a hint of foundation to tone down color.

Rag & Bone also debuted highlighted features and clean skin, but with a twist. Makeup artist Gucci Westman was inspired by Katharine Hepburn and created a contrasting, thick line of black liner that flicked into a wing at the ends. He used pointed Q-tips to clean up the liner shape, making it look really graphic.

Rose and apricot were the shade combo that Tom Pecheux used on models’ cheeks at the Ralph Lauren show. His trick to perfectly flushed apples? Instead of swiping the brush onto the skin, he pushes it in. “Otherwise it just sits on top,” he explained. The top lashes were given generous coats of Estee Lauder’s Sumptuous Two Tone Mascara in black, and the bottom in brown.
