Red Carpet Fashion Awards

The next stop on my Sunday afternoon London Fashion Week trail was the Old Billingsgate Market where the Topshop Unique show was held.

Before the show they invited us to drinks and canapés and gave us a chance to shop limited edition t-shirts from the NEWGEN recipients from the last ten years.

Despite being a shopaholic, I managed to limit myself to a Mary Katrantzou and Marios Schwab for Topshop tee, but many more from Erdem, Christopher Kane and J W Anderson were available to purchase, with all profits going to Centrepoint, a charity dedicated to giving young homeless people a future.

For Fall 2012, Topshop Unique’s new head designer, Emma Farrow, served up tough military-inspired pieces that we will be clambering over each other to purchase this September.

Whilst some of us won’t have the tummies (or bravery) for the cropped tops, or the legs for the hot pants, we can all still get on board with the chunky knits, velvet jumpsuits, floor-length olive-green trench coats with military-style gold buttons, low-slung skirts, leather pleated skirts and sweater dresses.

Models stomped the runway wearing lace-up army-style boots and carrying an array of slouchy leather bags.

Marios Schwab is known for unique pieces with a rock n’ roll edge, so I was surprised to see a lot of ladylike pieces for his Fall 2012 collection.

Much like Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2012 presentation, the hats took centre stage.

They were asymmetrically perched on top of the models’ heads, which is probably why he called the Marios Schwab woman a ‘voyeur’ as she’s obscured and not fully in view.

Wearable chic separates and streamlined dresses moved on to more daring looks with revealing laser-cut floral details – no doubt lined before they hit the red carpet – sexy leather trenches, low-cut gowns and nude embellished gowns with a coloured chiffon overlay.

With Swarovski Elements adorning the final look, I’m hoping it has done enough to be Oscar bound.

Front Row: Alexa Chung and Leigh Lezark

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Michelle Williams, Amanda Seyfried, Kristen Stewart, Alexa Chung, Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Keira Knightley, Andrea Riseborough and Felicity Jones

Marios Schwab is just one of many talented designers due to launch at the British Designers Collective boutique which will open soon at Bicester Village.

More news on this to follow.

It was clear from the lined, basketball-court-like runway and the monkey bars that the Versus Spring 2012 collection would be a sporty one.

A starting whistle signalled the beginning of the presentation as the first model took to the runway.

We saw a selection of lilac, mint green, lemon, blue and white cheerleader-style uniforms which will have young Hollywood placing their orders right now.

Baseball jackets, striped skirts, hoodies, drawstring pants and basketball shorts were also worked into the sporty theme.

The footwear was far from sporty as models walked the runway in caged heels and Mary Janes.

Sporty messenger bags provided the finishing touches on some of the looks.

Model sported ponytails and their makeup was kept light.

Favourites: Cropped leather jacket with cut-out elbows paired with sheer top and drawstring pants and aqua and lemon dress with striped skirt

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Elle Fanning, Emily Browing, Lea Michele, Leighton Meester, Camilla Belle, Leelee Sobieski, Emma Roberts, Miranda Cosgrove, Jessica Alba, Solange Knowles, Cheryl Cole, Kristen Bell and Chloe Sevigny

Roksanda Ilincic’s Spring 2012 presentation was my final show this London Fashion Week.

On my first day working at a fashion house, my director asked me to fetch her a lantern-sleeved dress from the showroom. I had to Google it to figure out what she was talking about, so I found it quite ironic that this collection had many lantern-sleeved looks on display.

Whilst taking a brief trip down memory lane, I found myself falling in love with the knitted beanie hats which added a quirky touch to this sophisticated collection.

Mustard dominated the colour palette alongside an eye-popping bright fuchsia pink and aqua blue. The rest of the colour palette consisted of ivory, grey and navy blue.

This collection represents elegant essentials: sheath dresses, maxis, blouses, and pants which all have a whimsical edge.

Key accessories included knitted beanie hats, rope belts and amazing Nicholas Kirkwood tri-colour ankle strap pumps.

Front Row: Anna Wintour and Poppy Delevigne

Favourites: Pink dress paired with a pink beanie hat and striped and floral print drop-waist maxi dress

Aquascutum’s Spring 2012 collection was presented in a beautiful ballroom inside the Corinthia Hotel in London yesterday morning.

Joanna Sykes presented a cool, chic, pretty collection for the woman who doesn’t need to try too hard.

We saw many updated staples like the trench coats which were made of plastic, skirts which were draped and layered to give off an aching cool vibe and a bobble knit cardigan that was paired with a plastic skirt.

Tweed jackets with matching pants, sheer blouses, basic tees, fluid dresses, boxy cropped jackets, lace trim oversized shirts and palazzo pants were presented on a mostly neutral colour palette.

Pops of neon yellow via dresses, tops and shoes ensured the collection didn’t feel too one note.

Key accessories included duffle shaped bags, beach bags with rope handles, and loafers.

Paul Hanlon use L’Oreal products to slick back the model’s hair, whilst Lucia Pieroni created a flawless finish with MAC cosmetics.

Front Row: Kara Tointon (yes Dawn who used to be in Eastenders)

Favourites: Neon yellow dress and silk grey jacket and pants paired with white tee

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston, Julianne Moore, Diane Lane, Kristen Stewart, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Natalie Massenet, Ashley Greene, Alice St. Clair, Hilary Swank, Helen Hunt, Evan Rachel Wood and Diane Kruger
