Red Carpet Fashion Awards

With so many events happening yesterday evening, Jessica Chastain opted to attend The Hollywood Reporter’s ‘Nominees’ Night 2012′ which was a celebration of the 84th Annual Academy Awards, held Getty House in LA.

It has taken us a while to warm to Jessica’s red carpet style, but in the lead up to the Oscars she appears to be stepping out of her comfort zone.

This week we’ve already seen her wearing a daring Alexander McQueen look and her best look to date; Elie Saab.

On this occasion I’m not so enamoured, as I find her Vivienne Westwood dress highly unflattering.

The colour is gorgeous, but the dress makes her look thicker around the waist and the draped sleeve looks sloppy.

Casadei silver sandals and a spiralled updo completed her look.

Chloe Moretz walked the purple carpet at the 14th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards on Tuesday evening.

Like Kate Beckinsale, Chloe donned Vivienne Westwood, wearing a metallic black Vivienne Westwood Couture dress.

Perhaps to match her edgy dress, Chloe showed off bright pink streaks in her hair which we have not seen before.

I wonder if the teen actress is heading into a rebellious phase, or just having fun experimenting.

Either way this dress, once again, feels too mature for her.

Why is it so passee for a teen to dress like a teen?

Costume design in TV and film was recognized at the 14th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards, held in Beverly Hills last night.

Kate Beckinsale was awarded the ‘Lacoste Spotlight Award’ for her fashionable work in films.

Accepting the award, Kate wore a draped Vivienne Westwood gown.

At first glance, this grey colour seems like another one of Kate’s beloved nude gowns, but upon closer inspection, it’s actually a subtle print of light blue and white fans.

The actress even added off-the-shoulder sleeves to her signature strapless silhouette.

Lana Del Rey was one of the many stars to take to the red carpet at the 2012 Brit Awards in London this evening.

She opted to wear a Vivienne Westwood red gown.

Her off-the-shoulder classic gown is a particular style we’ve seen several times before.

With that in mind I wish she opted for some interesting accessories to lift this look.

The red nail polish isn’t enough to keep me interested unfortunately.

Meryl Streep showed off a sexier, more daring side on the red carpet at the 2012 BAFTA Awards in London this evening.

Perhaps as an ode to the British award ceremony and character she played in ‘The Iron Lady’, Meryl chose to wear a look by legendary British designer, Vivienne Westwood.

Meryl teamed her signature Westwood strapless black gown with a lightly embellished corset belt and a bolero with the same sparkling details.

This is a considerably revealing ensemble for the ‘Best Actress’ nominee, who we tend to see covered up and looking drab on the red carpet.

Despite her windswept hair, which is terribly aging, unfortunately, I do love this look for Meryl.

It’s her best look so far as it actually looks like she made a real effort on this occasion.

Rachel McAdams joined Channing Tatum on the red carpet for the LA premiere of their new movie, ‘The Vow’.

The actress showcased her new bangs which frankly aren’t doing anything for her. Let’s hope it’s a clip-on.

I do, however, love her Vivienne Westwood mint-green cocktail dress.

The signature dress by the British designer was teamed with Pomellato jewelry including gold-and-diamond-encrusted necklaces which were too heavy for the look.

A Christian Louboutin embroidered clutch and Christian Louboutin nude ‘Pigalle’ pumps completed her look.

I really dislike the styling. For such a simple dress, the hair, makeup and jewelry were just too much.

She should’ve let the dress speak for itself.
