2013 Grammy Awards Menswear Round Up

Grammys Mens 1

While the Grammys are always a stage for wild fashion from the women’s side, the men typically tend to stay on the classic side – with a few exceptions, of course. The menswear always has a lot of diversity, ranging from dapper to disgusting. This year featured a lot of monochromatic looks and, unfortunately, a lot of bad tailoring.

Justin Timberlake: He’s back and he’s looking better than ever. Suiting up in collaboration with Tom Ford was clearly a wondrous decision. Justin made his return to the Grammys wearing an impeccably tailored Tom Ford black tuxedo with a hip twist on the jacket. His shawl collar was matched with a white-edged black pocket square and a droopy black bow tie. What made this outfit so perfect, though, was the way he was able to honour the old school while staying so modern. He kept his look classic with the black studs on his shirt, those amazing black-and-white loafers, and white dress socks. And he even wore a black cummerbund. He’s easily my best dressed of the Grammys.

Frank Ocean: Prior to performing at the Grammys wearing a custom yellow Band of Outsiders tuxedo, Frank wore a Dior Homme navy wool broadcloth Teddy jacket with silver buttons, paired with a navy wool and silk round neck sleeveless sweater, and navy wool broadcloth slim pants for the red carpet. Both looks showcased his cool, laid-back style.

Ed Sheeran: The red-haired English singer gave a grand performance on stage, but not so much on the red carpet. Ed wore a poorly tailored Burberry navy tuxedo with a two-toned notch lapel. The problem was that his tux fit terribly: the waist was not tailored; the sleeves and pants were too long; and those shoes did not work. I’m all for sneakers with a suit, and I like those particular sneakers, but the rest of his outfit is so bad that it distracts from his shoes. A little more effort next time, Ed.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley In Saint Laurent – 2013 Golden Globe Awards

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley In Saint Laurent - 2013 Golden Globe Awards

Like Halle Berry, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley put her best foot forward on the red carpet at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel last night.

The British model/actress wore a Saint Laurent Spring 2013 gown with a pussy-bow neckline and side slit, accented with a corseted leather belt.

She accessorized with Saint Laurent black suede ankle-strap peep-toes, and rings by Dana Rebecca and Norman Silverman.

While Rosie looks beautiful, I have to say I’m slightly underwhelmed.

I never thought I would say the words, “Rosie Huntington-Whiteley” and “underwhelmed” in the same sentence.

Anne Hathaway In Saint Laurent – 2013 National Board Of Review Awards

Anne Hathaway In Saint Laurent - 2013 National Board Of Review Awards

Anne Hathaway donned head-to-toe black for the 2013 National Board Of Review Awards, held at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City yesterday evening, with her ‘Les Mis’ co-star Amanda Seyfried also in attendance.

The actress appears to have confirmed that she has finally closed the chapter on her ‘Princess Diaries’ red carpet style we all loved in favour of more grown-up looks with an edge.

Dressed in a Saint Laurent Spring 2013 look, she sported a three-piece suit with satin-trimmed lapels, styled with a satin pussy-bow blouse with frilly lace cuffs.

A Jill Milan clutch, which is steadily becoming popular with celebs, and Givenchy black sandals accessorized her look.

Her cropped ‘do was swept over her face with a soft pink lip colour providing the finishing touches.

Courtney Love In Saint Laurent – ‘Stand Up Guys’ New York Premiere

Courtney Love looked to be in great spirits when she took to the red carpet on Sunday evening for the New York premiere of ‘Stand Up Guys’ held at MOMA.

I thought I was done with the Saint Laurent Spring 2013 collection, thanks to Lady Gaga who made it go stale very quickly, but Kate Moss and Salma Hayek have managed to breathe new life into this collection and Courtney has joined them.

The rocker has had some great times, some eyebrow-raising times and some frankly shocking times on the red carpet; this will go in the great times section.

Opting for one of the collection’s many boho maxi dresses with sheer sleeves and a tiered skirt, she styled the look with the same tasselled runway leather corset belt and a black shoulder bag.

It’s great to see Courtney looking so well dressed and healthy.

Kate Moss Rocks The New Saint Laurent Classic Duffle ‘24’ Bag

Kate Moss is known for her association with Longchamp, having designed a bag collection for them, but she’s been spotted carrying a new tote – the Saint Laurent classic duffle ‘24’ bag.

It’s both a simple and elegant bag and I’m sure, come fashion week, it will be seen on the arm of every top editor.

The bag comes in three sizes and four colours (black, white, red and taupe) and will be part of the first accessories line of the Saint Laurent house after the name change.

I do like the bag, but there are many more bags I have my eye on for next season.

Does this bag do enough to stand out against the other Spring 2013 duffle bags on the market from Chloe, Celine and Louis Vuitton?

Kate Moss In Saint Laurent – Colette Book Signing

Kate Moss was spotted leaving her hotel in Paris, France on Wednesday en route to the Colette boutique to promote her book ‘Kate: The Kate Moss Book’.

She also wore a look from the Saint Laurent Spring 2013 collection.

This collection is more suited to Kate Moss than Lady Gaga, who kinda ruined this collection for me.

Kate didn’t deviate too far from the runway look, wearing a sheer black blouse – sans pussy bow – with sleek straight cigarette pants with a black patent belt, which was worn with a lace cropped collarless jacket with lace accents, ruffled trims and a tasselled detail.

Her standard just-got-out-of-bed, wavy, purposely messy tresses, a black Longchamp bag and black ankle-strap pumps completed her effortlessly chic look.

Salma Hayek In Saint Laurent – 2012 Bambi Awards

Salma Hayek also attended the 2012 Bambi Awards held at the Stadthalle Düsseldorf in Germany yesterday evening, where she collected the ‘Best International Actress’ award at the prestigious ceremony.

Proving that Lady Gaga doesn’t have the monopoly on the Saint Laurent Spring 2013 collection, the actress wore a black dress from said collection.

The plunging dress, with an embellished gold trim which snakes around to her back, was styled with gold jewels, including a selection of cuffs on both wrists and a black shoulder bag with a gold chain.

My first reaction to this look was total boredom, but it grew on me quite quickly.

Salma tends to make a lot of missteps but on this occasion the dress is flattering, the twins are on display in a tasteful way and she accessorized perfectly – nothing to fault from me here.

Lady Gaga In Saint Laurent – Yoko Ono Grant for Peace Ceremony

Lady Gaga was honoured for her work promoting peace by John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono at a ceremony in Iceland yesterday – on what would have been the late Beatle’s 72nd birthday.

The singer collected her ‘LennonOno Peace Prize’, a glass trophy in the shape of a puzzle piece, wearing her second Saint Laurent Spring 2013 look in a row.

She teamed a cream maxi dress with a ruffled neckline with a silver embellished trim black tuxedo blazer.

Accessorizing the same black hat, she of course completed the look with sky-high boots.

With just two looks in two days, Gaga has pretty much summed up this collection, which was tuxedo jacket, sequin jacket, maxi dresses, pussy bow ties, sheer skirt and wide brim hat.

I think I can safely say I’m done with this collection.
