Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Cannes Mens Tuesday

Tuesday premieres during Cannes Film Festival included ‘Cleopatra’ and ‘Behind the Candelabra’, making way for appearances from some actors we haven’t seen in a while and others who have solid red carpet résumés.

Chris Tucker: For the premiere of ‘Cleopatra’ on Tuesday, Chris wore an unbuttoned white dinner jacket similar to the one he wore to the Independent Spirit Awards in February. It’s no secret he’s partial to overly wide lapels, so it was no surprise to see large shawl lapels. He paired the jacket with black pants that could have been slimmed down a bit, a white shirt, and a black bow tie. I love how he selected a jacket to complement his lovely plus one, Azja Pryor.

Adrien Brody: Along with his beautiful date Lara Lieto, Adrien arrived to the ‘Cleopatra’ premiere in a suave black notch-lapel Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo. It fit well, like most suits Adrien wears, and he even added a black-faced Bulgari watch to accent the tux. He finished the look off with a white shirt and black bow tie.

Christoph Waltz: Christoph donned a well-cut black Prada tuxedo for the ‘Behind the Candelabra’ premiere. It fit in all the right places. The shawl lapels and bow tie gave it a little more class. The ease with which Christoph is able to pull off his tux made this my favourite look, just ahead of Adrien.

Milla Jovovich In Prada - 'Cleopatra' Cannes Film Festival Premiere

Milla Jovovich was back on the red carpet this evening attending the ‘Cleopatra’ Cannes Film Festival premiere held at the 60th Anniversary Theatre this evening in France.

We love Miuccia Prada, but she can’t make a gown. This was evident when Florence Welch attended the premiere for ‘The Great Gatsby’ last week, and here we have another poor attempt at creating a gown worthy of the occasion.

The gown features a loose black silk spaghetti strapped top with a navy embellished skirt, which would look better as a bed throw.

It is just an unflattering heap.

As I say every Cannes Film Festival, No Miuccia, NO.

Renee Zellweger In Prada - 2013 Met Gala

The first thing I said to myself upon seeing Renee Zellweger on the red carpet at the 2013 Met Gala was “where’s the train?”

We had several magic moments of Renee taking to the stairs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing a spectacular gown with a flowing train.

On this occasion she wore a Prada knee-length frock from the Fall 2013 collection.

Her chocolate-brown long-sleeved dress enriched with crystals, paillettes and glass-beaded embroidery features a layered detail which falls from the hip.

As brown dresses go, this one isn’t too bad; what most impresses me here is the improved styling from the runway plus Renee’s hair and makeup – words I haven’t said in relation to Renee in a loooong while.

Her sophisticated non-punk look was styled with black satin pumps.

‘The Great Gatsby’ World Premiere Menswear Round Up

The gents weren’t about to be left in the shade for the world premiere of ‘The Great Gatsby’ last night.

Leonardo DiCaprio: I was swooning when Leo took to the red carpet looking sharp in a baltico-blue Prada two-button notched-lapel suit. Keeping the look classic with a white dress shirt, navy silk tie, and black lace-up shoes, all by Prada, I did wonder why he didn’t take his pants up a few inches. They are way too long but this appears to be a continual thing on the red carpet when it comes to menswear.

Tobey Maguire: The actor joined co-star Leonardo DiCaprio by also opting for a classic dark-coloured suit by Saint Laurent. His wife, Jennifer Meyer, cozied up to her hubby wearing a look from the Saint Laurent Fall 2013 collection. Her babydoll floral-embroidered dress featuring a white collar and black velvet tie translates rather nicely on the red carpet. She added the celebrity favourite Saint Laurent ‘Betty’ bag and black Alaïa embellished suede sandals to her look.

Jay Z: As the music and executive producer for ‘The Great Gatsby’, the rapper took to the red carpet to celebrate this part in the movie wearing a Tom Ford suit, not surprisingly. His two-button notched-lapel charcoal checked suit fit perfectly. Looking fresh to death, Jay added a taupe tie to his white dress shirt, completing his look with formal black shoes.

Joel Edgerton: The actor lightened things up, wearing an Ermenegildo Zegna two-button notched-lapel grey suit, styled with a white shirt and purple tie. In a sea of dark suits, this light-grey look was very refreshing; however, I have to say that Tobey is my favourite here.

Catherine Martin and Miuccia Prada ‘The Great Gatsby’ Dresses Opening Exhibit

There were many more celebs who joined Carey Mulligan and Katy Perry for the special exhibition of selected costumes designed by Miuccia Prada and costume designer Catherine Martin for Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming film adaptation of ‘The Great Gatsby’ in New York City yesterday evening.

Alexa Chung: Fresh off the plane from her Vogue Festival London trip, the jet-setting TV presenter wore a black Miu Miu crewneck tunic featuring some gold detailing. Black loafers and a black clutch accessorized her outfit, with barely there makeup completing her effortless look.

Maggie Gyllenhaal: The indie actress stands out here wearing a bright-white Prada dress with ruffled details on the bodice and cuffs. Maggie’s choices are often hit or miss. This for me is a hit, although I’m not a huge fan of the platform sandals.

Florence Welch: Is it me, or does Florence’s Prada look have a touch of Saint Laurent about it? Maybe it’s the suit-and-hat combo which has now become synonymous with the brand. As always this is a stellar chic look from the British singer.

Katy Perry In Prada - Catherine Martin and Miuccia Prada ‘The Great Gatsby’ Dresses Opening Exhibit

Katy Perry joined Carey Mulligan for the opening of a special exhibition of selected costumes designed by Miuccia Prada and costume designer Catherine Martin for Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming film adaptation of ‘The Great Gatsby’ in New York City yesterday evening.

The singer opted to wear a Prada Spring 2013 frock, which was probably better suited to the fashion-fun-loving gal than the pieces from the Fall 2013 collection.

Her wine-coloured floral-print dress was accented with a black patent belt and styled with a black patent clutch with a floral motif and dual-colour Prada flatforms with a cute bow accent.

I love that Katy has found the balance of having fun with fashion without being the joker.

Side-swept wavy tresses and red lips completed her look.
