Nicholas Oakwell Fall 2012 Couture

The ballroom inside Claridges Hotel was the luxurious setting for the Nicholas Oakwell Fall 2012 Couture presentation in London last week.

As well as a runway, the room featured four individual quarters where models with rolled retro updos and dark berry pouts made their way around a black sofa and grand piano, stopping to sit and pose for photos.

Inspired by the ‘moody and luxurious’ lounge environments of 1970s New York, Nicholas also counts expressionist artist Franz Klein, as well as the colour palette and mood of 1978 film ‘Eyes of Laura Mars,’ as influences.

For daywear we saw tea-length high-neck dresses, and wool and tweed impeccably tailored suits and coats, some with fur accents. I particularly like the looks with a lattice cape detail.

Evening wear is where Nicholas really excelled.

The luxe beaded robe with fur collar I could image Joan Collins wearing in an episode of Dynasty.

Other pieces which caught my eye were the orange ombre ruffled full-length dress and the silver bugle beaded gown on a nude chiffon. This dress would look great on Florence Welch. In fact, a lot of the gowns would.

The suede sandals, some accented with mink, were courtesy of Nicholas Kirkwood.

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Florence Welch, Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan, Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett, Penelope Cruz and Emilia Fox

Annie Lennox In Nicholas Oakwell Couture – Diamond Jubilee Concert

Annie Lennox also performed during the Diamond Jubilee Concert held at Buckingham Palace in London on Monday evening.

The Eurythmics singer gave an angelic performance, donning a pair of angel wings with her Nicholas Oakwell Fall 2011 gown.

Her glittering gunmetal grey gown, with a more conservative neckline, was styled with elbow-length silver gloves.

Singing ‘There Must Be An Angel (Playing with My Heart)’, the rock chick proved she’s no golden oldie by rocking out at the end of her performance, even throwing her mic stand across the stage.

Other performances on the night included Jessie J, Cheryl Cole and Gary Barlow.

Tali Lennox In Nicholas Oakwell Couture – Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2012

Tali Lennox attended the private VIP view of the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2012 at the Royal Academy of Arts in London yesterday evening.

The young model and daughter of Annie Lennox wore a beautiful Nicholas Oakwell Spring 2012 Couture feathered confection.

Her white-collared frock was accented with a gold belt as styled on the runway.

Despite my dislike for white heels they look good here. I don’t think Tali could have bettered the look without ankle-strap pumps with the gold heel.

With so much frou frou, the model opted to keep things simple with an updo.

Natalie Dormer In Nicholas Oakwell – ‘Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950’ Private View

Natalie Dormer attended the private view for ‘Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950’ at The V&A in London on Tuesday.

The British actress wore a Nicholas Oakwell Spring 2012 Couture dress.

Her organza shirt dress was dripping with molten metallics.

Usually I’m not a fan of mixing metals, but there is something very intriguing about this.

A large gold box clutch and silver ankle-strap pumps perfectly accessorized her futuristic look, whilst she played up to the girliness of the dress with soft curls and a pretty pink lip colour.

Nicholas Oakwell Spring 2012 Couture

Nicholas Oakwell presented his second Couture collection at Claridges in London last month.

For Spring 2012, the British Couturier was inspired by pieces from the iconic jewellery house, Grima.

Pailettes, beads, feathers, adorned cocktail dresses and gowns which have a glamorous 60s feel to them were presented alongside coats made of ostrich feathers, a gold alligator-skin coat and an organza jacket with an oversized collar.

The attention to detail is quite spectacular, especially on the bead work.

I can already picture the looks above being worn by Elle Fanning, Rihanna, Andrea Riseborough and Katy Perry this awards season.

Nicholas Oakwell Fall 2011 Couture

Nicholas Oakwell is a new designer which we can’t wait to see on the red carpet.

We recently told you about Nicholas following our discovery of his work during pThe Communications Store’s press preview.

He impressively graduated from the Epsom School of Art and Design where his entire final collection was bought by Harvey Nichols and featured in a Harpers & Queen spread at the desire of Hamish Bowles, the current American Vogue European Editor-at-Large.

Nicholas’ ability to mix structured necklines with feminine textures like ruffles, sequins, fur and pleats is exquisite. He recently debuted his first couture collection, which consisted of 18 different looks.

Look 17 was the most breathtaking and impressive of the presentation. The ombre ruffled skirt and structured beaded bodice sent us to gorgeous-gown heaven. We would love to see this on red carpet at the Oscars in February.

Nicholas also seems to be continuing the ballet-inspired trend. Black and nude feathers, pleats and feminine skirts all give a nod to ‘Black Swan’.

We can’t get enough of Nicholas’ feminine pieces and look forward to seeing his couture clothes on stars like Zoe Saldana, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway and more.

Those of you who watched ‘The X Factor’ will recognize this dress as it was worn by Kelly Rowland on the Saturday finale show.
