Menswear Round Up

Menswear round up

Jude Law: In mid-February at the ‘Side Effects’ Berlin photocall, Jude wore a red v-neck shirt under his Prada double-breasted suit. At the film’s Paris premiere at UGC Cine Cite des Halles on Thursday, he attempted, and failed at, a similar look; the star of the film arrived in a Prada navy double-breasted suit over a charcoal v-neck shirt. The jacket looked nice and the v-neck worked, but his baggy pants ruined it all.

Leonardo DiCaprio: At the Seoul, South Korea premiere of ‘Django Unchained’ on Thursday, Leo sported a Tom Ford navy three-piece suit with wide peak lapels and a matching navy tie. This look had everything going for it, except proper tailoring. Not only did his jacket need to be nipped in at the sides to give him more of a V shape, his pants were rather baggy. So close, but yet so far.

Adrien Brody: In the most dapper look of the week, Adrien was in attendance for Carine Roitfeld’s ‘CR Fashion Book Issue 2′ cocktail party as part of Paris Fashion Week at Hotel Shangri-La on Tuesday. The actor arrived wearing a well-tailored Margiela black shawl-lapel suit along with a white shirt and black ankle boots, both of which were also Margiela. He styled his look nicely with a black bow tie and a black-faced watch.

Sarah Jessica Parker In Maison Martin Margiela Couture – amfAR New York Gala To Kick Off Fall 2013 Fashion Week

Sarah Jessica Parker In Maison Martin Margiela Couture - amfAR New York Gala To Kick Off Fall 2013 Fashion WeekSarah Jessica Parker paraded out a bold style statement at the amfAR New York Gala to kick off Fall 2013 Fashion Week, hosted at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City on Wednesday evening.

The actress went to the Maison Martin Margiela Spring 2013 ‘Artisanal’ Couture runway for inspiration, where she found it in a fiery fuchsia number wrapped up in an extra-long black-and-white sash.

The colour of this strapless column gown with its vivid silk velvet, coaxed into a herringbone pattern, was exhilarating.

But the dress did completely overwhelm SJP’s petite frame, especially with the puddle of fabric that surrounded her every pose.

With a smokey eye, nude lip and her hair in loose waves, she tossed the model’s mask to the curb. After all, the look was high-concept enough without such tribal trappings.

The ‘Artisanal’ collection mixes playful invention and innovative upcycling with a sense of romance and wit. But the exits can still be challenging for the red carpet.

Did you like SJP’s look or should she have left it on the runway?

Gwai Lun-Mei In Maison Martin Margiela with H&M – 2012 Golden Horse Awards Press Room

Gwai Lun-Mei had changed out of her Alexander McQueen gown at the Golden Horse Awards when she showed off her trophy in the press room.

On this occasion, she wore a black Maison Martin Margiela with H&M dress.

I can’t say I’m crazy about this fusion of two dress, with the one side longer than the other and the one strappy shoulder, but Lun-Mei makes this complicated look work.

This could be down to the fact that she didn’t try too hard, opting just to add simple pumps and a tie belt.

Lana Del Rey In Maison Martin Margiela with H&M – H&M Berlin Private Concert

Lana Del Rey, the face of the H&M Autumn/Winter campaign, performed at a private concert in Berlin for a small crowd of German press at the H&M Berlin showroom on Sunday night.

The singer, who must have a closet stocked full of H&M pieces, wore a look from the Maison Martin Margiela with H&M collection.

Lana has been wearing a lot of black and navy lately, so I’m delighted to see her wearing this festive red dress with matching pumps.

The red crepe dress, with a silk lining and asymmetrical hemline, was styled with a black waistband to give the look a more defined silhouette.

I much prefer Lana’s presentation. As she styled it I would buy this piece in a heartbeat.

Gold cuffs on both wrists, dark red lips and glossy waves replace her signature beehive do.

Naomie Harris In Maison Martin Margiela – ‘Skyfall’ Sydney Premiere

The cast of ‘Skyfall’ are currently in Australia for the Sydney premiere, which was held at the State Theatre earlier today.

Naomie Harris looked stunning, wearing a Maison Martin Margiela Resort 2013 dress.

Her petrol-blue asymmetrical dress with a cut-out detail in the hemline was styled with Tiffany & Co. jewels and those well-worn Giuseppe Zanotti heels which work with just about every look.

Whoever is doing Naomie’s makeup needs to share his/her secrets, because in that department she is flawless every time.

I know it has been a packed week, but I would love to add this to the BDOTW poll. This look is simple, effortless and very elegant.

Apart from her Miu Miu misstep, Naomie has been a delight to watch on the red carpet.

Note to Angelina Jolie, this is how you nonchalantly work a side slit.

Maison Martin Margiela For H&M Party

H&M hosted a party in New York City to celebrate their Maison Martin Margiela collaboration on Tuesday evening.

Mena Suvari: Despite not being a fan of Mena’s trompe l’oeil bodysuit, she’s totally working this look, as per. She styled the look with a navy ‘Hitched Up’ skirt, tan wedges with a Perspex heel and a giant silver metallic candy wrapper clutch (a must-have from this collection). She was my favourite at this event.

Leigh Lezark: I’m not surprised that the DJ picked the most colourful and difficult-to-wear piece from the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection. She’s never one to fade into the background. The look includes a colourful printed-scarves top and skirt. She opted for the wedges in black.

Selma Blair: The actress wore the black version of the ‘Horizontally Worn’ dress with black wedges. I love how she styled the look with the china bumps and red lip colour, but I prefer the blue version of this dress which appears in the lookbook.

Julianne Moore: A simple black Maison Martin Margiela for H&M suit with peaked shoulders look super chic on Julianne.

Sarah Jessica Parker: The actress looked like an Olsen twin engulfed with so many layers and an oversized blazer.

Helena Christensen: The supermodel makes this £179.99 leather ‘Car Seat Cover’ dress look even more expensive. She styled her look with all black accessories.
