The CFDA, WWD & Variety Celebrate Runway To Red Carpet Initiative

To celebrate the inaugural launch of the Runway to Red Carpet initiative, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), Variety and Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) hosted a star-studded luncheon on Tuesday (February 20) at the Chateau Marmont, which was sponsored by Karma Automotive.

A range of starlets were in attendance. However, if you had just looked at their ensembles, you’d never know they were at the same event—so diverse were their modes of dress.

Olivia Munn: I like the sunny outlook of this Veronica Beard Spring 2018 warm-weather-ready suit set, with the drawstring detailing adding an element of feminine allure. Obviously, the shorts didn’t stand up so well to the creases from sitting.

Lea Michele: Opting for a more romantically feminine offering, Lea wore a Zuhair Murad floral gown with a ruffled peplum. I can imagine this dress looked very pretty in the garden outside.

January Jones: I appreciate the directional, urban-forward mood the actress was setting with this Off-White Resort 2018 look—complete with that slick-back ponytail. However, I know the deconstructed, pinstripe skirt will have many saying it looks as if she wrapped a bolt of men’s shirting material around her waist.

2018 DGA Awards Red Carpet Roundup

The 2018 DGA Awards didn’t just see Sally Hawkins, Greta Gerwig, and Saoirse Ronan in attendance. Many more stars were on the red carpet on Saturday (February 3) in Beverly Hills, California.

Kyra Sedgwick: I believe the updo is partly to blame for the more matronly tones of this Zuhair Murad Spring 2018 fringed gown styled with Chopard jewels.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw: This Oscar de la Renta gown was a refreshing ode to modern elegance. I love how the deceptively simple silhouette radiated with subtle glimmering embellishment before giving way to a celebration of dégradé fringe below.

Allison Janney: Statuesque as always, Allison was striking in this J Mendel gown styled with Ara Vartanian earrings, a Sylva & Cie ring, a Jimmy Choo clutch, and matching red Stuart Weitzman heels. The dimensional lace bodice offered a romantic counterpoint to the sleekness of the skirt.

Kristen Bell In J. Mendel – 2018 SAG Awards

I was awaiting a bright rush of colour on the 2018 SAG Awards red carpet, so I was rejoicing at the sight of Kristen Bell on Sunday (January 21) in LA.

She ensured her first red-carpet of the New Year was a colourful one in this floral-embroidered, fuchsia number from the J. Mendel Resort 2018 collection.

The dropped-waist silhouette is what took the gown in a fresh direction from traditional ball-gown proportions.

I love the inherent girlish femininity of the look, imbued with plenty of elegance by way of her careful styling. Lorraine Schwartz jewels referenced the dress’s vivid pink hue and a glossy box clutch topped it off.

Laura Linney In J. Mendel – 2018 SAG Awards

Laura Linney attended the 2018 SAG Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (January 21).

The actress wore a J. Mendel gown with subtle diamond jewelry.

I am really perplexed about this look. I love a good cape moment, and the light pink is a lovely hue. The beaded feather print is also quite pretty. Yet, this doesn’t wow me. And it almost feels heavy, despite the light fabric and color.

Laura’s simple side-parted hair is beautiful (but perhaps an updo would have played into the look more?) and her smokey eye is perfectly dramatic.

So what’s the consensus: Are we loving this look, or is it too heavy?
