With New York Fashion Week fully under way, the FROW regulars are coming out to play. Here, a look at yesterday’s statement-making starlets in the chic seats at the Spring 2014 shows.
Ashley Madekwe @ Cushnie et Ochs: The ‘Revenge’ actress made waves at the Cushnie et Ochs presentation at Milk Studios in a fiery red-orange frock from the label, which is immediately recognizable for the cutout detail. The peekaboo double-slash through the center of the dress has sultriness and edge without being try-hard or distracting. The same goes for her effortless styling, including a swept-back ‘do, minimal makeup and a barely-there pair of black, skinny strap Saint Laurent sandals.
Taylor Momsen @ Helmut Lang: Wearing her go-to colour—black—the actress-cum-singer covered up in a Helmut Lang sweater-and-skirt ensemble at the brand’s show. The knee-high lace-up boots, not to mention her bed-head platinum waves and red under-eye shadow, which replaced her favoured smokey, raccoon eyes, added the rocker-rebel vibe that currently defines her style.
Solange Knowles @ Noon By Noor: Giving us one of the more spirited looks of the day, the songstress naturally wore a printed ensemble from the Noon By Noor Resort 2014 collection, when she attended the young brand’s show, held at The Studio at Lincoln Center. The playful palm-tree blazer and wide trouser shorts, mixed with the embroidered flamingos on the blue shirt, had a retro, fun flair only boosted by Sophia Webster’s pink-edged ‘Leilou’ T-strap sandals, which she wore with black socks.
Like Naya Rivera, Joan Smalls was taking the crop-top trend to the next level yesterday evening while attending the New York screening of ‘Lovelace’.
The stunning model must have had jaws dropping in her wake as she wore a black Helmut Lang asymmetrical bra top with a colourful Altuzarra pali-print high-waisted skirt styled with a black Givenchy envelope clutch and Tom Ford triple-buckle sandals.
A perfect advert for all those brands if I ever saw one.
Soft curls and neutral makeup completed her look.
I am going to stick both this and the picture of Naya by my computer, so the next time I want to blow off a Bikram Yoga class, this will give me inspiration.
Lea Michele attended the Target FEED Collaboration launch at Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York City yesterday evening.
The ‘Glee’ actress wore a sleek Helmut Lang blazer with a red Brochu Walker top and a fitted Kimberly Ovitz tulip skirt, which she accessorized with Christian Louboutin black sandals and a Switch statement necklace.
I feel like the necklace is totally out of tune with the rest of her look, and that’s not even factoring in how OTT this necklace is for the charity event.
Her outfit says dressy casual, while the necklace says a night out at the Oscars.
A purposely messy side-swept braid completed her look.
Some of our favourite cat-walkers were among the mix of style royalty at the 2013 CFDA Fashion Awards at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in New York City. The models definitely had their moment last night, strutting out a slew of bold-name designers and even bolder looks to match.
Adriana Lima: Donning a leggy and luxe Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy Fall 2013 confection, this Brazilian beauty did justice to the edgy designer—who was the CFDA International Award Winner—even with black bloomers peeking through the gown. A center-parted ‘do and glowing makeup finished the look. Fellow model Joan Smalls rocked a similar Givenchy sheer design at the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala. Who do you think wore it best?
Miranda Kerr: This model mom made waves with a retro-modern frock by Proenza Schouler. The square neckline and fit-and-flare shape were nothing if not fun and provided the perfect palette for the trippy, painterly cerulean and verdigris hues. More sophistication came with a classic pair of black, triple ankle-wrap Stuart Weitzman heels, Jennifer Meyer jewels and a silver Stuart Weitzman clutch, along with a fuchsia lippie and low bun.
Joan Smalls: The lovely Latina wore a breezy white, strapless Givenchy gown. The matte white panel on the bottom created a sort of casual, sundress feel. But upon closer inspection, it was anything but beach-y with a corseted bodice and sheer lace-embellished skirt. The glittering choker-necklace added a daring, darker note.
