Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Best Supporting Actress nominee Sally Field made a big impact on the red carpet Sunday at the 2013 Oscars held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

The ‘Lincoln’ actress wore a striking long-sleeved, red Valentino Fall 2012 Couture gown.

In an industry where youth is idolized, Sally does a spectacular job of putting the young women to shame in this pleated, sheer gown.

On a night where most of the stars opted for muted tones, this shock of bright red is a welcome change, and Sally simply radiates the charm and class for which she is known.

Samantha Barks made a striking silhouette on the red carpet Sunday at the 2013 Oscars held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

The ‘Les Misérables’ actress wore a sleek Valentino Spring 2013 gown with a plunging neckline. The virtual unknown is taking her first trip to the Academy Awards seriously, and has succeeded in turning quite a few heads with her sexy look.

While a neckline this low could easily look trashy on an actress with a curvier figure, the svelte Samantha absolutely stuns, and fills it out just enough to look even better than the runway model in my book.

Her Forevermark statement pendent necklace and undone updo finish off her ‘sexy unknown’ look, and you can be sure that after tonight,  Samantha Barks will be unknown no more!

Presenter Jennifer Aniston was a highly anticipated arrival at the 2013 Academy Awards today at the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center in California.

Rather appropriately for her first Oscars red carpet appearance in four years, Jennifer wore Valentino red, as she captured stares and camera flashes in her ball gown from the designer’s Spring 2013 Couture runway.

The strapless bodice and full skirt was a departure for Jennifer, who often opts for monochromatic tones and typically favours more body-conscious looks.

But it didn’t have as much dynamic impact as I would have liked. This is still a silhouette that we’ve seen strutted out by stars many times before.

In fact, the gown actually reminded me of Jennifer Lawrence’s 2013 Golden Globe Awards Christian Dior Couture statement—minus the pointy cone-bra bodice and belt.

Jen Aniston never wears her hair up on the red carpet, and tonight was no different with her effortless, straight blow-out. But I think this dress could have used a dose of pizzazz with a new ‘do.

Minimal jewels, including geometric diamond earrings and bangle bracelets, along with a matching red Salvatore Ferragamo clutch completed the look.

At this point, her best accessory might have been her fiancé Justin Theroux.

Ripping her red-carpet confection straight from the Marchesa Fall 2013 runway of New York Fashion Week just days ago, Fan Bingbing made a bold entrance at the 2013 Academy Awards, hosted this evening at the Dolby Theatre in California.

It’s no surprise that designers Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman’s most recent collection has hit the Oscars. The romantically theatrical aura of creations like Fan’s fuchsia number certainly are worthy of a red carpet.

That said, I wasn’t totally on board with the Chinese actress’s interpretation of this architecturally extravagant gown, which was undoubtedly a challenge to fit into a limousine—or through a doorway.

It came rather close to overwhelming the petite star. And that black clutch, while lovely, was a harsh distraction.

But the Chopard jewels, in complementary shades of pink and magenta, were beautiful.

She finished the look with a structured high updo and a pink lippie.

Charlize Theron kept things simple for her walk down the red carpet Sunday at the 2013 Oscars held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

The ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ actress wore a Dior Haute Couture white silk bustier dress with embroidered detailing on the peplum.

Harry Winston diamond stud earrings and bracelets offer the only accent to the star’s look, as both her makeup and super short hair are the definition of subtle.

While I do wish Charlize had a bit more visual interest somewhere–a bright lip or a dramatic piece of jewelry–with such a perfectly fitted dress on her flawless figure, it’s hard to fault her for her simplistic approach to this red carpet.
