Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Zhang Ziyi continued to step out of her comfort zone at the 2nd Beijing International Film Festival opening ceremony, held at the China National Convention Center this evening.

The Asian actress was always relied upon to fulfil the ‘princess’ gown quota on the red carpet, but her new direction is a more modern, less frou-frou approach.

On this occasion she donned an Alessandra Rich Spring 2012 dress.

Her pretty white Chantilly lace shirt dress was worn without the polka-dot tie and blue belt; instead Zhang Ziyi opted for a white belt with gold hardware.

A gold shoulder bag, red lips and wavy side-swept locks completed her look.

Whilst I love this dress and her new style, I wish she brought out the princess gown just this once.

I think this type of occasion always needs a bit of frou frou.

Zhang Ziyi attended the China Film Directors’ Guild Awards held at the Olympic Sports Center in Beijing, China on Sunday evening, where she picked up the ‘Actress of the Year’ award.

We’ve seen the actress wear a lot of Dior and Armani in the past, but on this occasion she opted for a look by Japanese label, Toga.

The look consists of a long sleeve printed bodysuit paired with a black tulle skirt and a patent leather belt.

Her Spring 2012 look was styled with an Alexander McQueen clutch, Chanel black-and-gold tassel earrings and Gucci black patent pumps.

This is an interesting, daring look for Zhang Ziyi who tends to play it safe in princess-like gowns for these types of occasions.

Zhang Ziyi attended 20th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party in LA last night.

The Asian actress was the fourth starlet to wear an Elie Saab gown on Oscar night following Bérénice Bejo, Milla Jovovich and Katie Holmes.

Zhang’s Prussian blue gown with embellished details from the designers’ Pre-Fall 2012 collection was teamed with grey Elie Saab platforms, a black python Swarovski ‘Nirvana Star’ clutch and Bulgari jewels completed her look.

A bold red lip colour and a simple sweeping updo completed this beautiful look.

Zhang Ziyi wore this polka-dot Christian Dior Resort 2012 dress during the ‘Love for Life’ Rome Film Festival photocall last month.

It’s far from being my favourite Dior look. The open sleeves are particularly jarring, but that pretty necklace provides a nice distraction.

Charlize Theron wore the same dress with a black blazer on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ recently to promote her new movie, ‘Young Adults’.

Whilst the dress is not great, the blazer is too heavy for it, so Zhang wins for me.

There was only going to be one winner this week; Zhang Ziyi in Christian Dior with sparkling Swarovski jewels.

The Asian beauty made it a foregone conclusion the moment she stepped onto the red carpet at the ‘Love for Life’ Rome Film Festival premiere.

Whilst this gown was too princess-like for some, it was the very vision of perfection for the rest of us and a definitely contender for BDOTY.

The Rome Film Festival came alive again last night as Zhang Ziyi graced the red carpet for the ‘Love for Life’ premiere.

I have goosebumps as I’m writing this; Zhang is beyond breathtaking in her Christian Dior Resort 2011 gown.

Her baby-blue strapless embroidered gown with a matching ribbon tied to the waist will no doubt make many BDOTY lists.

Zhang kinda fell off the radar for a while, but this is a surefire way to signal to everyone that she’s back.

A darker-blue embellished Swarovski clutch was teamed with ivory Swarovski drop earrings and a Swarovski diamond-encrusted bracelet.

I think the bracelet was one accessory too many for this look, but I’m just thankful that she didn’t add a necklace.

A simple bun and a dewy glow completed her look.
