Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Tonight was definitely a night for couture gowns, and this is why I love Cannes Film Festival.

Elizabeth Banks looks outstanding wearing a one-shouldered Armani Privé Spring 2009 red gown.

She gives this gown an old Hollywood feel with the marcel waves, and the long flowing train.

Normally mounds of material attached to a gown icks me, this time I like it, and Elizabeth shows of the gown so perfectly.

Best Dressed of the Week is going to be tough.

I know many of you will hate the maroon Haider Ackermann Fall 2009 ensemble Tilda Swinton is wearing, but I love it, especially the colour and that gorgeous silhouette it gives her.

She’s like a gazelle, so interesting to look at, and so elegantly statuesque.

Tilda usually works with designers directly, so it wouldn’t be a surprised if they worked together on this modified look.

Isabelle Huppert may have been the most casual at the photocall earlier in the day, but tonight she looked very glamourous wearing a nude Armani Privé Spring 2009 gown, with an embroidered overlay, which was embellished with jewels.

She kept her neck bare, but she did accessorize with silver bracelets.

Robin Penn Wright continues her red carpet run without a hint of black.

This platinum silver metallic Elie Saab Fall 2007 Couture off-the-shoulder draped gown is divine.

I see her getting better and better.

Asia Argento wore a Armani Privé Spring 2009 Asian print strapless bell-shaped gown.

For me Asia struggles to pull this look off. I don’t like her hair with this gown, and the runway shoes look much better on the runway.

Model Eugenia Silva looks gorgeous in her black and grey checked Armani Privé Spring 2008 gown, with a rise and fall hem.

I’m not particularly crazy about this gown, because Milla Jovovich wore a modified version of this gown to the same festival last year, so I feel like I have seen it before.

From the top of her updo, to the hem of her Alberta Ferretti gown, Alessia Piovan is total perfection.

She has such elegance, the petrol blue is striking, and those earrings are divine.

Aishwarya Rai, like Elizabeth Banks, wore a gown with stunning train.

The Indian actress glowed in her white strapless Roberto Cavalli gown with a ruffled tiered skirt.

I’m not crazy about her hair style, but I do like her red bejewled Swarovski box clutch, and those pearl drop earrings.

I had high hopes for Shu Qi, but this teal strapless Roberto Cavalli gown is a tad boring compared to the others.

Tonight there will be an opening party for the newest addition on London’s Mount Street, as Lanvin first London boutique opens its doors.

Balenciaga, Marc Jacobs and Christian Louboutin have all opened stores on the same street in the past six months, so it’s in great company.

The new Lanvin store will have five floors of Parisian chic wrapped-up in a Grade 2 listed building, adding to Mount Street’s allure.

If you can’t get yourself to Mount Street, you can purchase Lanvin online.

Browns Fashion, and Matches Fashion have a whole range of Lanvin pieces. Net-A-Porter have accessories and shoes.

If you love Rita Wilson and Tilda Swinton’s stunning Lanvin pearl and chain sequin necklace, you can purchase it from Luisa via Roma for €1,026.

Rita seems to be wearing two, to add more drama to her satin aqua strapless gown.

My love and complete obsession admiration for Tilda Swinton is no secret.

She has a kooky sense of style that I adore, and she’s one of the most fearless women on the planet when it comes to fashion.

Can you imagine Jennifer Aniston doing this editorial? Errr No.

The editorial was shot by Craig McDean, and the designers were even more outlandish than usual.

The breath-taking designs are by Mark Fast, Mary Katrantzou, Sandra Backlund, Peter Pilotto, Louise Goldin.

My particular favourite being the fuchsia Craig Lawrence creation.

We are not worthy Tilda.

MORE FROM RED CARPET FASHION AWARDS:

Posted by Catherine Kallon on March 23rd, 2009 In: Magazine Editorial, Magazines, Tilda Swinton

There has been much discussion today about the YSL caged heels, and who actually wore them first.

David has kindly pointed out that it was in fact Tilda Swinton and not Becki Newton, as I had stated earlier nor, Ciara, as kindly pointed out by Profashionelle.

Tilda wore the silver caged heels with a dove grey YSL Spring 2009 pant suit, during the Berlin Film Festival last month, when she attended the premiere of The Dust Of Time.

Regular readers will remember that I kinda disowned Tilda during that time, as she was sporting some frock horrors, and as a result I missed this look. And it’s not at all bad, in fact this is one of her best looks this year, so thanks to David who made me go back and search for this.

If you are lusting after these heels as much as myself and Nik, you can purchase them at Matches Fashion, who have the YSL Booties for £905. Whereas Luisa via Roma have the YSL cage boots (€1,100), the YSL cage booties (€890) and the YSL cage sandals (€650).

I know some of you don’t like get Tilda Swinton, but I love her. What I don’t love however, is this look.

The only reason this Christian Lacroix Spring 2009 Couture gown worked on the runway, was because of the accessories, so not for the first time this year, I will have so say that I really don’t like this look on Tilda.

The gown itself is gorgeous with the colours and the embellished sleeves, but Tilda fails to make this work.

Diane Kruger, on the other hand, impresses in her Valentino Spring 2009 gown. In fact she looks absolutely outstanding.

The mustard gown has been lengthen – for the better – from the runway, but has retained the draping on the skirt, and the embellishments on the sheer bodice.

She completed the look with a small gold clutch, her hair styled in a loose up ‘do, and flawless make-up.
