2017 Met Gala Couples

In addition to Pharrell Williams and Helen Lasichanch, there were a few other couples who attended the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1) in New York City.

Eddie Redmayne & Hannah Bagshawe: While they may not have fully embraced the theme like Pharrell and Helen, Eddie and Hannah still made for a pretty partnership in Prada. The deep jewel-toned hue of her amethyst gown, awash in the label’s signature embellishment, was striking against his midnight-navy suit that was precision-tailored with just the right amount of quirk in its oversized buttons.

Armie Hammer & Elizabeth Chambers Hammer: Coordinating in all black, both Armie and Elizabeth wore Ralph Lauren ensembles. However, no offense to Armie, no one was looking at his monochromatic moment that was nothing if not handsomely sleek. But, with her sheer lace gown, Elizabeth commanded attention—even if we’ve seen this leggy look done countless times over. Its ubiquity has cancelled out any hope of the avant-garde, although a more sculptural, origami-style ’do might have helped inch this ensemble closer to the night’s theme.

Cynthia Erivo In Thom Browne – 2017 Met Gala

Cynthia Erivo was making her Met Gala debut on Monday (May 1) in New York City.

Judging by her Thom Brown tailored beaded gown which was one of many dramatic looks of the night, she’ll be invited back as it was very much on-theme.

What I love most about this look is that at 5ft 1′ she’s not overwhelmed by this gown; wearing it rather than it wearing her.

Cynthia isn’t afraid to take risks and this is one that paid off.

The look was styled with Mikimoto earrings, Sophia Webster shoes and a Thom Browne clutch.

Salma Hayek In Balenciaga – 2017 Met Gala

Salma Hayek hit a rare fashion homerun at the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1) in New York City.

As you know I find Salma’s style very frustrating, yet when her body is fully celebrated like in this sultry Balenciaga number, I’m a happy camper.

The hip high Balenciaga boots gives the look an edge and takes this into a new territory of cool we’ve never seen from her before.

I hope she stays on track and ditches the Gucci looks which; hard as she tries, don’t work for her.

Zoey Deutch In Tory Burch – 2017 Met Gala

Zoey Deutch attended the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1) in New York City.

Being the yang to Kate Bosworth’s yin, the actress wore a Tory Burch white dress which was very clean and chic so all the focus was drawn to the flared exaggerated flounce sleeves.

Making a further statement with her enameled disk earrings, I will guess you prefer this over Kate’s look which didn’t get much love.

Serena Williams In Atelier Versace – 2017 Met Gala

Serena Williams gave her fiancé Alexis Ohanian and her baby bump their red carpet debuts at the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1) in New York City.

It seems like Donatella is the go-to designer for maternity occasion wear, as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Blake Lively have all dressed their burgeoning bumps in Atelier Versace too.

The tennis champ looked elegant wearing an emerald green chiffon gown enriched with beaded accents plus diamond and emerald jewels.

This really was an awe-inspiring moment.

If you were to say this is perhaps her best ever red carpet look, I would have to agree with you.

Lily James In Burberry – 2017 Met Gala

Lily James did a good job of projecting her signature style while injecting a darker, mysterious edge at the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1).

Her Burberry gown was another look which wowed from every angle; from the structure of the bodice and the sharp exaggerated hips to the architectural black bow at the back.

I really love the elegance of the look, but it’s the edgier makeup, slicked back hair and choker adding a twist to a classic look which really sells this look to me.

Solange Knowles In Thom Browne – 2017 Met Gala

Solange Knowles was one of many I was looking forward to seeing at the 2017 Met Gala on Monday (May 1).

Some might see a singer in a puffy coat with a train, I see a woman wearing Thom Browne who interpreted the theme correctly sans all the bells and whistles we saw in Rihanna’s look.

Solange brand of avant-garde dressing was cool and measured with a quiet rebellious spirit.

I’m going to give her extra points for her own interpretation of Rei Kawakubo’s blunt bob.

The look was styled with a Mark Cross bag.
