Hair Trend Spotting: Sleek Ponytails

Beauty Trend Spotting Sleek Ponytails2

Many celebs are making a usually casual hairstyle red carpet worthy by slicking strands back to perfection. Pulling your hair back is an easy go-to, but these tips will take your look to the next level. Take note from Jennifer Lopez, Holland Roden, Selena Gomez and Vanessa Marano who are each showing us how it’s done.

Celebrity hair and makeup artist, Valerie Noble, shared her favorite tips to achieving a polished pony in a few easy steps. For Vanessa’s hair, Noble started with Redken Glass 01 Smoothing Anti Frizz Serum. A product like this is crucial to the style as it not only keeps frizz at bay for those with curlier textures, it will also tame flyaways.

Next, flat iron hair bone straight. Smoothing out every curl is key to creating a sleek end product. Opt for a small 1 inch iron and focus on the roots and slightly bend ends.

Once hair is straight gather all pieces. Noble says to, “brush all the hair up, just below the crown.” Location, location, location, is very important for today’s it ponytail. Placing too high can easily turn ‘80’s, so we recommend a mid to lower placement. Gather strands using Hair Bungees. Noble used them for Vanessa’s thick hair. Hair Bungees are perfect for thick hair and give more control over desired tightness. And if your ponytail isn’t as thick as you’d like, try adding clip-in extensions.

Lastly, you’ll want to secure your work with both Redken Outshine 01 Anti-Frizz Polishing Milk and Redken’s Quick Dry 18 Instant Finishing Spray. They not only holds hair, providing long lasting results, both will also add a healthy shine to your finished look.

Selena Gomez In Zimmermann – ‘Behaving Badly’ LA Premiere

Selena Gomez In Zimmermann - 'Behaving Badly' LA Premiere

Selena Gomez was back on the scene again at the ‘Behaving Badly’ Los Angeles premiere, hosted on Tuesday (July 29) at the ArcLight Hollywood in California.

Her affinity for Zimmermann, which we saw throughout her recent time in Italy and France, has obviously followed her back to Hollywood. Her fifth look from the Australian label’s Resort 2015 collection, a gray snakeskin-printed halter crop top, may be my least favourite, though.

The miniscule top was paired with black skinny jeans, Barbara Bui gunmetal python and black suede sandals and Sara Weinstock jewels.

A victim of poor styling perhaps, the Zimmermann piece might have translated more successfully with a sophisticated high-waist trouser or pencil skirt.

Generously applied purple eye shadow, and a heavily winged cat eye, could have worked in her favour, but came off rather harsh here with the questionable ensemble.

Selena Gomez In Emilio Pucci & Christian Dior – Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation Gala

Selena Gomez In Emilio Pucci & Christian Dior - Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation Gala

Selena Gomez wore two looks for the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation Gala held at the Domaine Bertaud Belieu on Wednesday (23 July) in Saint-Tropez, France.

Look 1: She arrived wearing a Emilio Pucci Fall 2014 gown in an olive hue composed of a part-draped silk jersey and part-embellished with crystals which clung to her body, with a thigh-high slit ensuring the Pucci sex appeal. Gold hooped earrings and matching Casadei ‘Barbarella’ pumps completed her look.

Look 2: At some point during the evening Selena changed into a Christian Dior strapless black dress from the Spring 2014 collection featuring the signature emblem, paired with a black tulle tutu to make the look her own, I love the fresh spin on this look. Does the veiled fascinator overcook the look for you? It does for me.

Do any of Selena’s looks deserve a spot on the BDOTW poll?

Selena Gomez In Zimmermann – Out In St Tropez

Selena Gomez In Zimmermann - Out In St Tropez

Following her appearance at the Ischia Global Film Festival in Italy last week, Selena Gomez has moved on to France, where yesterday she continued to celebrated her 22nd birthday with friends in St Tropez.

It’s possible that she travelled with the entire Zimmermann Resort 2015 collection, because she wore her fourth look from said collection, donning the ‘Trinity’ halter dress, with mesh panels adding a peek-a-boo element to her LBD.

Styled with black pumps and Ray-Ban aviators, she completed her birthday look with no makeup and a simple bun.

Selena Gomez’ Six Ischia Global Film and Music Festival Looks

Selena Gomez' Zimmermann Dress Ischia Global Film and Music Festival Looks

Selena Gomez had a very busy weekend at the Ischia Global Film and Music Festival in Ischia, Italy, donning six great looks and one very questionable one.

Arrival: Walking around the town, the actress wore a very summery Zimmerman Resort 2015 floral-print halter dress with a cut-out detail at the waist giving the dress a two-piece feel. The light and airy dress, which couldn’t be more perfect for the location, was styled with white Casadei leather wrap-around sandals and black Raybans.

Selena Gomez In L'Agence - Ischia Global Film + Music Festival

Selena Gomez is in Italy, where she took to the red carpet for the 2014 Ischia Global Festival on Wednesday (July 16), collecting the Kids’ Global Award as well as premiering her new movie, ‘Rudderless’.

Working a sexy boho look, Selena kept her new tattoo – which is an Arabic translation of the phrase “Love Yourself First” – under wraps, wearing a L’Agence draw-cord maxi dress in an indigo denim print.

Styled with Casadei forest-green suede and python cut-out pumps with an ankle strap and gold heel, she swept back her tresses and opted for no jewels.
