Weekend Red Carpet Roundup

weekend roundup

The weekend brought with it a garden variety of ensembles from Los Angeles to London, and more. Here, a glance at the looks and the starlets who wore them.

Emma Roberts: Joining Diane Kruger and Freida Pinto, the actress was at the 8th annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic at Liberty State Park on Saturday (May 30) in Jersey City, New Jersey. She styled her sunny yellow Christine Alcalay Spring 2015 dress with Michael Kors Benji straw wedge sandals, an M2malletier Mini Amor Fati leopard pony bag, and Preen by Thornton Bregazzi Chantilly sunglasses, all topped off with a braided ’do.

Elsa Pataky: Elsa was the picture of girly charm, as she joined Emily Blunt at the Audi Polo Challenge at Coworth Park on Sunday (May 31) in London, England. Her rose-printed Ulyana Sergeenko demi couture dress was adorable yet I would have loved to see it without the pink sweater. Casadei nude suede pumps assured her legs went on for days, with a Paula Cademartori clutch finishing the look.

Sophia Bush: The actress was at Glamour USA’s June ‘Success’ Issue dinner party at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, California on Friday (May 29). While her Vivienne Westwood Fall 2015 dress, worn with a Rauwolf clutch and Giuseppe Zanotti sandals, was rather elaborate with its heavy print and silhouette, she ensured the look stayed fresh with her hair and makeup on the barely-there side.

Ruth Wilson In Gabriela Hearst – ‘The Affair’ LA Screening

Ruth Wilson In Gabriela Hearst - 'The Affair' LA Screening

Ruth Wilson attended the screening of Showtime’s ‘The Affair’ at Samuel Goldwyn Theater on Wednesday (May 6) in Beverly Hills, California.

While the beautiful emerald hue of this Gabriela Hearst Fall 2015 dress did plenty to flatter, the rest of the look fell flat.

I wish the flowy chiffon dress had been more suitable to Ruth’s figure with less of a a gaping keyhole.

The styling also seemed rather disjointed with the Kelly Bailey necklace and Alexandre Birman blue sandals not exactly going with the flow here, although I applaud the outside-the-norm risk with the shoes.

Ruth Wilson In Balenciaga - A Gala Celebration In Honour Of Kevin Spacey

Ruth Wilson attended the gala celebration at the The Old Vic Theatre in honour of Kevin Spacey, as the artistic director’s tenure comes to an end on Sunday (April 19) in London, England.

I have always been a fan of Ruth Wilson’s style; she likes to take risks and never plays it safe. However, I couldn’t get on board with this latest look from Balenciaga’s Pre-Fall 2015 collection.

Why? I find the dress so very unflattering on Ruth, doing nothing to enhance her figure – in fact, doing the opposite by making her look boxy.

The lacklustre styling and modification to the skirt isn’t helping matters.

Ruth Wilson In Stella McCartney – ‘Constellations’ Broadway Opening Night After Party

Ruth Wilson In Stella McCartney - 'Constellations' Broadway Opening Night After Party

Ruth Wilson attended the ‘Constellations’ Broadway opening night after-party held at Urbo NYC on Tuesday (January 13) in New York City.

The British actress has been one of my favourites for her fearless approach to red carpet dressing, however, she hasn’t started 2015 so well.

Following her disappointing Prada dress at the Globes this weekend, this Stella McCartney black and white dress with a dramatic step hem isn’t doing her any favours.

This might be considered by some as an edgy, modern take on the traditional evening gown, but I feel like Ruth has done and can do so much better than this.

Hopefully she can turn things around sharpish.

Ruth Wilson In Prada – 2015 Golden Globe Awards

Ruth Wilson In Prada – 2015 Golden Globe Awards

Ruth Wilson attended the 2015 Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday (January 11) in Beverly Hills, California.

In opposition to her typically edgy Red Carpet look, the actress wore an olive green Prada gown with black stitching and a feathered, turquoise detail. Its straight, floor-length and harsh cut around the shoulders strip away a certain level of femininity that Ruth usually exudes.

I think that the striped, cinched waist is the only part of this dress that benefits Ruth’s shape. The color is relatively blah, and her light eye makeup and peach lip do not complement the ensemble.

Even if her hair was styled differently, I don’t think it could have completely salvaged the look.
