SXSW Film Festival Weekend Roundup

The 2017 SXSW Conference and Festivals kicked off this weekend with a host of stars showcasing a more relaxed set of styles in Austin, Texas.

Charlize Theron – ‘Atomic Blonde’ premiere: The actress looked gorgeous opting for a Givenchy LBD where the fluidity of the fabric is beautifully offset by its artful draping. She completed her look with Christian Louboutin ‘Loulouboot’ booties.

Sarah Wayne Callies – ‘This Is Your Death’ premiere: If there was an all-black dress code, Sarah wasn’t buying it. Instead she presented a rainbow of colours courtesy of Tracy Reese.

Rooney Mara -‘Song to Song’ premiere: I love how the lace sleeves temper this boyish Saint Laurent look, but the best thing about this look if the how relaxed Rooney is here. SUSI Studio ‘Emerson’ brogues completed her look.

Rooney Mara In H&M Conscious Collection – 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Rooney Mara was also in attendance at the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party on Sunday (February 26).

If you were wishing for her to debut a fresh new fashion aesthetic in a bright colour, you would have been disappointed to see her stick to her favoured neutral comfort zone in this creamy ivory design from the H&M Conscious collection.

The dress itself had a feminine lightness of form with the frill of plisse ruffles.

So, I wish that mood had been echoed in the styling, as her vampy makeup and the heavy black shoe weighed down the look.

Rooney Mara In Chanel Couture – Chanel Metiers d’Art 2015/16 Fashion Show

Rooney Mara In Chanel Couture - Chanel Metiers d’Art 201516 Fashion Show

Rooney Mara joined Kristen Stewart in the front row for the Chanel Metiers d’Art 2015/16 Fashion Show at Cinecitta on Tuesday (December 1) in Rome, Italy.

The actress wore a pale pink Chanel Fall 2015 Couture dress styled with black Chanel pumps and Chanel Fine Jewelry.

I’m sure you’re also wishing that Rooney had opted for the blue version. It would’ve been such a refreshing change of pace.

As it stands she’s done the pale dress/black pumps combo so many time that her looks are merging into one.

Rooney Mara In Givenchy – The Museum of Modern Art’s 8th Annual Film Benefit Honoring Cate Blanchett

Rooney Mara In Givenchy - The Museum of Modern Art's 8th Annual Film Benefit Honoring Cate Blanchett

Rooney Mara attended the Museum of Modern Art’s 8th Annual Film Benefit Honouring Cate Blanchett on Tuesday (November 17) in New York City.

Is it me, or is it groundhog day?

I am pretty sure I could go back over my archives and find at least two Givenchy looks similar to this which have been previous worn by Rooney Mara.

I get that it always has to be black, or white and most recently nude. But I wish she would switch up her rotation of designers more.

Rooney Mara In Chanel Couture – ‘Carol’ New York Premiere

Rooney Mara In Chanel Couture - 'Carol' New York Premiere

Rooney Mara joined Cate Blanchett at the ‘Carol’ premiere, held at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art on Monday (November 16).

After a brief break into more colourful territory, the actress was back to her comfort zone of black in a Chanel Spring 2015 Couture bustier lace overlay top and matching skirt styled with Chanel Fine Jewelry.

Although the look had been pared down from its more extravagant, original runway presentation, it still maintained a sense of enigmatic allure—especially with her dark smoky eye.

The top could have been more flattering, and the shoes more inspiring. Do you agree?

Rooney Mara In Alexander McQueen – Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences’ 7th Annual Governors Awards

Rooney Mara In Alexander McQueen - Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences’ 7th Annual Governors Awards

Rooney Mara attended the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 7th annual Governors Awards on Saturday (November 14) in Hollywood, California.

The actress managed to stay off the all black or white path she usually favours for yet another look from the Alexander McQueen Spring 2016 collection.

Some might feel the lace ruffled skirt is too similar to the McQueen gown she wore to the ‘Carol’ London premiere last month, but I feel the military style jacket gives this romantic look a different dimension and should be judged separately.

Thoughts?

Rooney Mara In Alexander McQueen – ‘Carol’ London Film Festival Screening

Rooney Mara In Alexander McQueen - 'Carol' London Film Festival Premiere

Following the photocall, Rooney Mara attended the screening of ‘Carol’ during the BFI London Film Festival at the Odeon Leicester Square this evening (October 14).

Garnering a pretty feminine silhouette that instantly imparts evening elegance, the actress wore a ruffled fine lace knitted nude gown from Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2015.

We are used to her serving up romance in an edgy, gothic manner, but on this occasion she captured the mood in the most simple and sensual way.
