Marchesa Spring 2015 Front Row

Marchesa Spring 2015 Front Row

Celebrities gathered to celebrate red carpet queens Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, who returned home to London to showcase their Marchesa Spring 2015 collection on the 10th anniversary of the brand.

Jena Malone: The ‘Hunger Games’ actress was perched in the front row wearing a distinctive Marchesa frock in a rich teal hue, deconstructed to create a gorgeous kilt dress rendered with 3D mohair thistle embroidery. I love her complementary eye makeup, which further emboldened the look along with her gold sparkling Louboutins.

Rita Ora: The singer ditched the red lip in favour of a deep-berry hue for her part-glamorous, part-I’m-not-sure-what’s-up-with-that-hairstyle look. She wore a Marchesa Spring 2011 blush-pink draped chiffon one-shoulder jumpsuit with black tassels on the train. The hair is too harsh for the look, but you have to – on some level – admire her for keeping things varied and interesting. She was asked by a reporter to name her favourite Marchesa red carpet look; having worn Marchesa four times previously to the Elle Style Awards, the BBC Radio One Teen Awards, the 2013 Glamour Woman of the Year Awards, and the 2012 EMAs, she said that the red embroidery and taffeta gown from the EMAs was her favourite look. When asked by the journalist where she had worn the look, Rita appeared to go blank and say “Ummm…”, at which point I interjected by saying “the MTV Awards”, to which she looked up at me with some confusion, then turned to the journalist and replied “Yeah, the EMAs”.

Rita Ora In Stéphane Rolland Couture – Fashion Rocks 2014

Rita Ora In Stéphane Rolland Couture - Fashion Rocks 2014

Rita Ora also made a grand entrance when she took to the red carpet at Fashion Rocks 2014, presented by Three Lions Entertainment, at Barclays Center of Brooklyn on Tuesday (September 9) in New York.

She took the opportunity to play an extreme game of dress-up in a Stéphane Rolland Fall 2014 Couture gown that was every bit of an abstract art piece and architectural feat.

The black silhouetted bodice and illusion lining transitioned to a backless design, accented by spindly embellishment, before giving way to a full, tulle-laced tutu skirt underscored by a train of sheer black chiffon.

Adding her own signature quirk factor, the songstress put plenty of sass into the avant-garde sophistication of the design, wearing her platinum locks tied into a row of knots atop her head.

This strange mohawk-esque moment didn’t belong anywhere near the gown, and if there was ever a time for Rita to rock her signature red lip, this was it. I also longed for the skinny belt seen on the model for a waist-defining finish.

As with many of her looks, I’m sure this one will be a divisive design. With better styling, this statement would have been one intriguing fashion sculpture to not soon forget.

REVEAL Calvin Klein Fragrance Launch Party

REVEAL Calvin Klein Fragrance Launch Party

As a part of the New York Fashion Week happenings, Calvin Klein launched their new fragrance REVEAL at a grand party at 4 World Trade Center on Monday (September 8), and the event was a star-studded affair.

Amber Heard: The actress and fiancée of Johnny Depp wore a black and navy overlay effect Calvin Klein dress with skyhigh metallic sandals, a gold box clutch and a dramatic beauty look featuring a deep side part and purple smokey eyes.

Rita Ora: A black leather Calvin Klein shift dress and strapped sandals manages to be simultaneously edgy and chic on Rita, and I love how ahead of the fashion curve she is with the gold choker. Classic Rita red lips, and retro-inspired curls are accented by a bright red beauty mark beneath her left eye.

Iggy Azalea: Taking a very grown-up approach to the evening, Iggy wore a short-sleeved, camel-colored Calvin Klein leather trench with knee high boots. You can tell the coat feels like butter, and I’m really digging Iggy’s secret agent-inspired look. Dark, smokey eyes and Pepto pink lips and a sleek ponytail top the whole thing off.

Rita Ora In Nicholas Oakwell Couture – GQ Men Of The Year After-Party

Rita Ora In Nicholas Oakwell Couture - GQ Men Of The Year After-Party

Rita Ora swapped the Zuhair Murad Couture gown she wore on the red carpet for the GQ Men Of The Year Awards on Monday (September 2) in London, England for something just as sparkly for the after-party.

Opting for a Nicholas Oakwell Couture plunging jumpsuit with shimmering fringed detailing all over, this look spells party piece.

In an attempt to distract you from said plunge, Rita added a silver pendant necklace to the look, with further styling coming from her metallic-silver pumps and selection of rings.

While I believe many will see this as a huge step down from her gown, I love three things about this look: the retro vibe, sultry appeal and lack of red lip colour.

Rita Ora In Zuhair Murad Couture - 2014 GQ Men of the Year Awards

Rita Ora slinked onto the red carpet of the 2014 GQ Men of the Year Awards, held in association with Hugo Boss at The Royal Opera House in London, England on Tuesday (September 2).

The event was all about the guys, but the songstress was certainly a star of the show. She brought a headrush of sparkling glamour to the proceedings, absolutely stunning in a Zuhair Murad Fall 2014 Couture confection with a striking, geometric sequin motif.

Although the asymmetric gown could have gone so wrong with its sheer detailing and hip-high slit, Rita pulled it off with perfection.

From the super-smoky eye and nude lip to the disappearing nude sandals and well-placed jewels, the styling was on point. I even loved the rad braided, platinum faux-hawk.

Seeing the thin metallic belt on the model likewise made me wish for it on Rita. But overlooking that detail, this is how to do sexy, rebel rock-star while still flaunting a sophisticated edge.

Rita Ora In Donna Karan Atelier – 2014 MTV Video Music Awards #VMA

Rita Ora In Donna Karan Atelier - 2014 MTV Video Music Awards #VMA

Rita Ora, always the chameleon, once again played a different fashion tune at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards #VMA, hosted at The Forum in Inglewood, California on Sunday (August 24).

The songstress, who performs ‘Black Widow’ with Iggy Azalea tonight, was the ultimate lady in red, arriving in a Donna Karan Atelier crimson silk gown.

Bringing the boudoir to the red carpet, she glided around in the negligee-inspired number that featured no shortage of glossy fabric that followed in a train behind her.

Yet, even with the abundance of fabric, skin was still the name of Rita’s style game, given that deep plunge neckline, backless silhouette, and hip-grazing slit.

Her left leg was most certainly her plus-one for the evening.

Perched haphazardly on the boundaries of bad taste—even for the VMAs—she embellished the look further with a diamond choker necklace, high-impact lashes and a ruby-red lip, not to mention her white-blonde, slicked-back ’do.

Perhaps the goal was to try and glamorize the look with the styling.

Should she have stayed in the bedroom?
