Rita Ora In Thakoon - 2013 Met Gala

Sporting her trademark red lip colour, Rita Ora joined a host of stars who took to the red carpet for the 2013 Met Gala in New York City this evening.

The British singer wore a Thakoon look which was created especially for this event.

I had expected her dress to be covered in safety pins, but her ivory dress with an asymmetrical top and cutout waist was accented with gold-chain embroidery.

More gold bling was to be had with Tasaki jewels and a gold clutch that completed her look.

Are you glad Rita put the try-hard on pause tonight, or were you expecting more?

Rita Ora In Roksanda Ilincic - British Designers' Collective

Rita Ora shockingly took her look from loud and daring to positively demure when she hosted the ‘Future Vintage’ launch for the annual British Designers’ Collective boutique at Bicester Village in England yesterday.

The British songstress covered up in a structured, fire-engine-red Roksanda Ilincic Pre-Fall 2012 ‘Izumi’ dress with contrasting navy-blue cuffs that reminded me of wrist ‘peplums.’

However, the sophisticated silhouette was slightly compromised by her styling.

The playful, white-and-yellow Nicholas Kirkwood sandals seemed out of place, while a big, bold pair of canary-yellow gemstone earrings almost commanded more attention than the dress.

Rita thankfully wasn’t wearing a wig, but her root-showing strands that were teased into a mussed-up semi-pompadour didn’t exactly match the polish of the dress.

You may remember that Princess Beatrice and Marisa Tomei trotted out the ivory and blue version of this design within days of each other last summer.

Judging by who has worn it, the dress obviously has wide-ranging appeal.

Rita Ora vs Anna Dello Russo in Saint Laurent

For the Elle Women in Music Celebration last month many of you thought that Rita Ora’s Saint Laurent Spring 2013 tuxedo dress was a tad costumey.

While I see your point, I also think it was a fashion risk that paid off, so I am not surprised to see the ultimate fashion risk taker Anna Dello Russo also wearing the same look, hat and all.

The Vogue Nippon editor-at-large was also at the Vogue Festival this past weekend speaking on her second favourite topic – blogging.

Anna opted for tights and t-bar pumps to Rita’s bare legs and pumps.

I’m going to give this one to Rita. This look is very much expected from Anna, so Rita wins on the element of surprise, plus I prefer the fit, which appears to be much looser on Anna.

Rita Ora Baselworld 2013

After Dubai, Rita Ora’s next stop was Basel, Switzerland for the Calvin Klein watches and jewelry event hosted during Baselworld 2013, the largest watch and jewelry fair.

The singer arrived wearing a black-and-white Calvin Klein look, sans wig, consisting of a black leather v-neck top, baggy black pants, a white jacket and Calvin Klein white sandals.

She later performed wearing another full Calvin Klein look, which included a blush long-sleeved crop top, a matching maxi skirt, platform sandals and, of course, a Calvin Klein watch and jewels for both looks.

While some of us will never get some of her style choices, anything is an improvement on her previous look.

Both looks are a huge improvement, but what I am most thankful for here is that she opted to ditch the wig.

Rita Ora In Chanel - The Little Black Jacket Exhibition Dubai

Chanel’s ‘The Little Black Jacket’ exhibition is currently residing in Dubai, where Rita Ora was the guest performer at the opening event yesterday evening.

The British singer wore a Chanel red top and matching skirt from the Spring 2013 collection which she styled with the very popular Chanel ‘Lego’ clutch, a silver bracelet from the Paris Edinburgh Pre-Fall 2013 collection, a Chanel watch and gold Louboutin pumps.

Lets address the elephant in the room; her hair.

It’s clearly a wig, or a weave, but the cut doesn’t flatter her face, plus the colour just goes to prove when it comes to colour she needs to rethink the blonde.

Rita-Ora-Elle-1

On the second of three covers for Elle magazine’s Women in Music May 2013 issue, Rita Ora wears a textured and feathered Chanel Couture frock – the same Chanel dress we saw recently on Charlotte Casiraghi – with a blossoming headpiece by Ken O’Rourke, black leather gloves and open-toe over-the-knee leather boots.

On her second cover, the British singer was photographed in Calvin Klein and a glittering, ultra-chic Mickey Mouse headpiece by Philip Treacy, with black whiskers pencilled in on her nose. The rest of her high-fashion photo shoot – which was shot by Thomas Whiteside – sees her wearing Dior Couture and Valentino Couture.

Inside the magazine, the singer opens up about her personal style, meeting Jay-Z and even her childhood idols, the Spice Girls.

You can read more over at Elle.com or read some of the extracts below.

On her childhood idols, the Spice Girls: “I just remember watching them – not even meeting them – and I was completely mesmerized. It feels great to meet someone who is not human, but is.”

On meeting Jay-Z in 2009 after her ‘big break’: “I didn’t think in a million years that I’d fly to New York to meet one of the biggest music moguls of our time.”

On not allowing her label to dictate her music: “That should never be allowed! It’s like somebody telling you what to sing.”

On her Marchesa MTV EMA dress: “I went up to [Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman] and said, ‘Hi, I’m Rita. Nice to meet you. I need to wear your dress.’ She was like, ‘What dress?’ They’ve got 10 million dresses. I said, ‘Look, I have your dress as the screen saver on my phone. This red dress needs to be on my body.’”
