Nina Dobrev In The Kooples – Extra

Nina Dobrev In The Kooples - Extra

On Friday (January 10), prior to the Art of Elysium ‘Heaven’ Gala, Nina Dobrev made a guest appearance on Extra which is taped at Universal City Walk in California, to promote season five of her hit series ‘The Vampire Diaries’.

The actress, who just turned 25 years old, wore a chic skirt suit from The Kooples Spring 2014 collection.

Her look consisted of a black A-line mini skirt, a cropped blazer with satin lapels and a crisp white button-down shirt.

The eye-catcher of this look was most definitely Sophia Webster ‘Cleo’ orange pumps which feature a black-and-white butterfly detail at the heel.

Wavy brunette tresses completed the look.

The one thing you can rely on is Nina Dobrev making an impact on the red carpet, and that she did at the Art of Elysium ‘Heaven’ Gala held at Skirball Cultural Center on Saturday (January 11) in Los Angeles, California, joining Anna Kendrick, Camilla Belle, Jennifer Morrison, Ashley Madekwe and Kate Bosworth.

Nina wore a sexy Emilio Pucci orange silk strapless gown with a fitted bodice and pewter starburst embellishments from the Spring 2014 collection.

She styled the look with the starburst embellishments in mind, wearing gunmetal-grey Rupert Sanderson ‘Rosanna’ ankle-strap sandals and a Rodo metallic-gunmetal perforated rectangular clutch accented with Swarovski-crystal embellishments.

With embellishments adorning her dress and metallic accessories, she didn’t wear too many jewels – just a ring and stud earrings – rounding out the look with an updo and glossy lips.

This was my favourite of the night.

Get the Look: Nina Dobrev’s ‘Knot-Hawk’ at the People’s Choice Awards

Get the Look Nina Dobrev’s ‘Knot-Hawk’ at the People’s Choice Awards

Periodically, at award shows, a star brings a stunning makeup look or hair style to the red carpet that becomes the talk of the beauty world. At the People’s Choice Awards, the star that created the buzz was Nina Dobrev, and the look was her unique ‘knot-hawk’, which was created by hairstylist and Nine Zero One Salon Co-owner Riawna Capri.

I jumped on the phone with Riawna and got all the details about how she created Nina’s chic-but-fierce style, and the good news is it’s surprisingly easy to achieve!

Riawna is a personal friend of Nina’s, and the pair had just finished a 16-day vacation to Australia, during which Riawna said she was inspired by how Nina’s hair looked after getting out of the ocean. So to recreate that textured ocean hair, first Riawna sprayed KMS California Hair Play Sea Salt Spray all over Nina’s hair, and then let it air dry.

Once the hair was dry, Riawna made four mini ponytails starting at the nape of the neck and then moving up two inches for each one, with the fourth pony at the top of the crown. She left the hair on the very top of the head loose.

Next, Riawna took the lowest ponytail, split it in two pieces, and tied a knot–”Just like when you’re tying your shoes,” says Riawna. She tied knot after knot until she was at the end of the hair, and then wrapped the ends around the knot and pinned it.

She then repeated this process on the remaining three ponytails. “Since there is more hair as you move up the head, the knots were just naturally bigger as they got higher, so it naturally created more volume as I moved up the head,” says Riawna.

Then Riawna took the top, loose section of hair and curled random pieces before pulling it loosely back toward the knotted section and pinning pieces into place.

“The key is not to pull the knots too tight, so you get plenty of body,” shares Riawna.

Finally, she sprayed the finished look with KMS California Hair Stay Maximum Hold Spray to make sure the look stayed in place all night.

And when you recreate this look, don’t forget to give create where credit is due: ”Nina came up with the name knot-hawk,” says Riawna.

Nina Dobrev In Jenny Packham - 2014 People's Choice Awards

Nina Dobrev attended the 2014 People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night (January 8), held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in California.

Our fave ‘The Vampire Diaries’ girl, and a nominee for the evening’s Favourite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress, dazzled in a Jenny Packham Fall 2013 long-sleeve design with a Rauwolf clutch

In the case of this decadent dress, all that glitters was, well, silver. The right side of this black, body-con confection was encased in a shimmering sea of glittery embellishment.

A pair of silver, ankle-strap platform sandals only added to the shine factor, while she edged up all that glitz with a back-braided interpretation of a faux-hawk.

Nina Dobrev attended The Trevor Project’s ‘TrevorLIVE LA’ event honouring Jane Lynch at the Hollywood Palladium in California on Sunday evening.

Usually the ‘Vampires Diaries’ actress showcases her toned pins in shorts or ultra-short minis, but on this occasion she went Hollywood glam wearing an Elie Saab Spring 2013 blue sleeveless gown featuring a lace bodice, pointy collar and button detailing.

A Rauwolf silver clutch, sapphire Swarovski earrings and a selection of silver John Hardy Bamboo Collection bangles accessorized her look, with a braided updo and soft-pink lips rounding out her look.

Nina Dobrev In Naeem Khan – The Vampire Diaries 100th Episode Celebration

Nina Dobrev In Naeem Khan - The Vampire Diaries 100th Episode CelebrationNina Dobrev blew out the candles at ‘The Vampire Diaries’ 100th Episode Celebration yesterday, which was held in Atlanta, Georgia.

Showing off one of designer Naeem Khan’s non-gown confections, she debuted a starburst of a mini-dress—a fresh, fanciful look from the Spring 2014 collection.

The actress kept far away from vampy territory in this bright, flora- and fauna-embroidered frock that featured a brilliant rainbow of hues, which she complemented with a midnight-blue clutch and strappy sandals.

Nina did leave the braided updo on the runway, letting her long, raven locks cascade into ringlets. She also took a more minimal makeup route, with a nude lip and only a light smokey eye. No need to add more colour here.

This bold statement was short and sassy, but simultaneously chic and sophisticated. Talk about having your cake and eating it, too.
