Brie-Larson-In-Maison-Martin-Margiela-Film-Independent-Spirit-Awards-20142

Brie Larson also joined the chic set of starlets at the 2014 Film Independent Spirit Awards, hosted Saturday (March 1) at Santa Monica Beach in California.

Nominated for Best Female Lead for her film, ‘Short Team 12,’ the actress looked to the progressive design house of Maison Martin Margiela for her strapless black dress from the Spring 2013 collection.

Although the silhouette was simple, it was certainly still statement-making, what with the exaggerated sweetheart neckline and front slit.

She added additional polish via a gold cage bracelet, Christian Louboutin ‘Decollete’ nude pumps and a cream-coloured Smythson ‘Soho Diary’ clutch, with a casual ponytail and barely-there makeup putting forth a beach-y spin.

While I appreciate the overall direction of the look, I still wish it had delivered a slightly more figure-flattering fit at some angles.

Reese Witherspoon In Giambattista Valli - Film Independent Spirit Awards 2014

Reese Witherspoon made a delightfully bold entrance at the 2014 Film Independent Spirit Awards, hosted at Santa Monica Beach in Santa Monica, California today (March 1).

The ‘Mud’ actress dressed up in a Giambattista Valli Spring 2014 Couture design.

The abstractly printed silk beaded top and draped silk skirt combined the most engaging shade of intense blue with black, which was further enhanced with dimensional, floral-shaped decoration that climbed up the bodice.

The geometric, colour-block white and black panel that cut through the bottom of the top only contributed even more modern edge to the leggy look.

She accessorized with a petite black ladylike Dior handbag and black Christian Louboutin ‘Leonor Fini’ sandals.

Softly hued makeup and a slightly messy updo provided the perfect counterpoint to the dramatic and directional style of her ensemble.

Lupita Nyong'o In Stella McCartney - Film Independent Spirit Awards 2014

As a best supporting actress nominee, Lupita Nyong’o was of course holding court at the 2014 Film Independent Spirit Awards at Santa Monica Beach in Santa Monica, California today (March 1).

The ’12 Years a Slave’ star has demonstrated that she’s not afraid to experiment with her impeccable style, so I’m always excited to see what she will bring to the red carpet.

Today, she yet again switched it up, utilizing the more laid-back event to debut a Stella McCartney Spring 2014 long-sleeve playsuit.

She paired the textured-print design with the sparkle of a gem-embellished Devi Kroell box clutch and Casadei grey suede pumps with cream trim and the signature ‘Blade’ heel, which may have not been my first choice here.

Capitalizing on the natural, desert tones of her ensemble, she finished the look with metallic, golden eye shadow and a terracotta red lip.

A new, fun outing from Lupita, although I found it be missing that truly memorable edge. Do you agree?

Anna Kendrick In Christian Dior - Film Independent Spirit Awards 2014

Anna Kendrick was also in the mix at the 2014 Film Independent Spirit Awards, hosted at Santa Monica Beach in Santa Monica, California today (March 1).

Dressed in head-to-toe Christian Dior, the actress and presenter wore a crisp white, Resort 2014 frock, which had been modified from its original black runway entrance.

Cerulean and blush panels cut through the backless, asymmetrical design, which reflected the colour-blocking theme seen in much of the collection.

Nude Jimmy Choo ‘Xenia’ sandals faded into near non-existence, taking a back seat to the dress, while a ballet-pink and black Dior clutch certainly did not. It may have been a few sizes too big.

A low, wavy ponytail and petal-pink lip finished the look on a softly pretty note.

Cate Blanchett In Roksanda Ilincic - Film Independent Spirit Awards 2014

Cate Blanchett took to the ‘blue’ carpet at the 2014 Film Independent Spirit Awards at Santa Monica Beach in Santa Monica, California today (March 1).

The ‘Blue Jasmine’ actress and Best Female Lead nominee put forth a fashion-forward entrance, donning a Roksanda Ilincic Fall 2014 felt dress that fused large, colour-block panels of burgundy and sand accented with a cornflower-blue flower shape.

Cinched with the shine of a significant, gold metallic belt, which obviously precluded the need for jewels, the relaxed, above-the-ankle silhouette took on a mod urban appeal.

Creamy nude Nicholas Kirkwood cutout sandals put the directional look on casually chic ground, whereas a metallic pair would have taken it to a dressier level. I’m just glad she skipped the runway footwear for this occasion.

With her hair loosely pulled back into a fishtail braid and with barely the slick of makeup to her name, I love how effortlessly Cate pulls off this trendsetting look, taking it into timelessly elegant territory, as well.
