Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Mischa Barton was lucky enough to attend the Elie Saab Spring 2009 Couture presentation on Wednesday.

That same day she was spotted on her way to the Elie Saab boutique, wearing a black bowler hat, a white top, a black shirt with braces, and very heavy eye make-up.

She accessorized her Clockwork Orange inspired look with a Lady Dior ‘Cannage’ bag, and a black pair of platform sandals from the Elie Saab Spring 2009 couture show.

I am loving this look from the heels to her ankles. Upwards I only have one question.

What were you thinking Mischa?

Elie Saab’s Spring 2009 Haute Couture collection was presented in Paris yesterday.

Elie’s gowns – as we have come to expect – were truly feminine, made of silk, chiffon and adorned with plenty of stunning embellishments.

The pastel tones were heavenly, evoking a dreamy like feeling, which is emphasized by the intricate, outstanding details such as the floral appliqués, and the sparkling embellishments, which were not too over-the-top.

Ruffles, tiers, pouffy shoulders, exaggerated hips, and obi belts all helped create some of the most outstandingly beautiful gorgeous red carpet dresses, he has ever created.

The only downside for me was the hair and make-up.

This collection more than most, has ignited my passion for red carpet gown. Bring on the Oscars.

Cate would so own that black one-shouldered gown, whereas Beyonce, I guess, would go for the heavenly peachy pastels.

Dita Von Teese was in the front row looking tres chic, wearing an all black Elie Saab Fall 2008 ensemble, which consisted of a jacket with a large rosette details on the collar and cuffs, a pencil skirt, Louboutin pumps, and a large bag, which was also detailed with rosettes.

Mischa Barton was also in the front row wearing a sparkling one-sleeved navy Elie Saab Fall 2008 cocktail dress, with Louboutin’s.

Her hair looks a bit disheveled for this dress, and although I am not a fan of one-shouldered anything, this dress works for her.

Dita von Teese is picture perfect wearing a head to toe grey look.

The burlesque beauty wore a Dior belted shirt dress, which would have looked very much like a nurses uniform, had it not been for the embellished details on the shoulders.

She partnered her look with a large floral hair accessory, and snake-skin lace up Christian Louboutin heels.

Lollipop head aside, I do love this Amy Whinehouse-inspired beehhive look Mischa Barton is sporting.

Unlike some occasions, Mischa made a real effort, wearing a strapless yellow Christian Dior Spring 2009 dress, which was fringed and embellished with seashells and beads.

She completed her look with African fertility goddess figurine heels from the same Dior Spring 2009 collection.

I am imagining things? Mischa has lost a lot of weight, no?

Since her Oscar win, Marion Cotillard has not been seen much on the red carpet, nor outside her native country.

These days her look tends to be dark colours, and coats that cover up her ensemble. The only distinctive thing here is her Lady Dior ‘Cannage’ bag.

It has been a while since we saw handbag designer Mischa Barton out and about.

The former actress, who now lives in Paris, was spotted walking around her home town wearing jeans, striped ballet pumps and a Sonia Rykiel Fall 2008 coat.

The coat had fur sleeves, a wool body, and was typically embellished with coloured paillettes.

A lot of pieces from the Sonia Rykiel Fall 2008 collection was embellished in this way, like Mischa’s Arthur bag.

“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” Premiere

Calista Flockhart and Harrison Ford, as usual, looked blissfully happy as they took to the red carpet this weekend. She was wearing a stunning blue silk one-shouldered Bill Blass Fall 2008 gown, whilst he was very dapper in a black suit with a satin tie.

Cate Blanchett wore a grey in a strapless lattice Armani Privé Spring 2008 gown with a necklace from the Chopard Red Carpet collection.

Natalie Portman wore a simple black Chanel gown, but still stood out on the red carpet thanks to her red lipstick.

Looking at Salma Hayek on the red carpet these days is like watching TV on mute. Although her jade silk Balenciaga dress is pretty enough, her whole look seems very subdued.

Maybe it’s the Frida Kahlo hair, but something is just off.

Kelly Brook arrived on the red carpet with her on-again fiance Billy Zane. She was wearing a baby blue daisy-printed cute haltered Luisa Beccaria Spring 2008 dress, with nude Christian Louboutin Catenita platform pumps. He was wearing sneakers on the red carpet…a big no no.

Rachel Leigh Cook was pretty in pink wearing a Elsie Katz Couture Spring 2008 dress, with tulip skirt, a tulle trim and a diamante belt. She accessorized with a Daniel Swarovski bag.

Linda Evangelista wore a dramatic one shoulder champagne silk gown embroidered in sequins from the Lanvin Fall 2008 collection.

Star Jones is sparkling in this see-through beaded dress.

“Vicky Christina Barcelona” Premiere

Penelope Cruz looked like a swan on the Cannes red carpet in a backless white Marchesa gown with 60 carats-worth of Chopard jewelery.

Rebecca Hall matches Penelope in the style stakes, wearing this sea green Alberta Ferretti one-shouldered pleated gown.

Aishwarya Rai opted for a fushica deep plunging Roberto Cavalli Pre-Fall 2008 gown.

Russian-born actress, Svetlana Metkina looks amazing in this pink Balmain Spring 2008 strapless maxi dress.

“Vicky Christina Barcelona” Photocall

Penelope Cruz drove the paparazzi crazy in this steel blue L’Wren Scott Spring 2008 fitted dress with maroon velvet trim.

Quintessentially & Margherita Missoni Cannes Party For OrphanAid Africa

Mischa Barton looks stunning in this Missoni Spring 2008 floral gown. This is her best dress since she arrived at Cannes.

Margherita Missoni wears this gold embellished Missoni Spring 2008 wrap, over her dress whilst carrying a Louis Vuitton Limelight clutch.

Vanity Fair Party

Mischa Barton sure does love her headbands.

For this party Mischa wore a Roberto Cavalli Fall 2008 gown with sequined detail.

Vanilla Gorilla Party

Maria Menounos attended a party on the Bud Light Yacht, in a mint green silk devore halter dress with knot detail from the Catherine Malandrino Spring/Summer 2008 collection.

Most Confusing/Worst Dressed Award
I understand the theme, and I understand that Christina Ricci was going for Wonder Woman here, but the pink ruins what could have been a great Givenchy dress.

Maybe if the pink had been black it would have worked.

Shame.

Not So Golden Girl Award
Mary-Kate Olsen’s custom-made Diane von Furstenberg gold sequined dress had plunging neckline, and a sexy slit, but looks slightly too big on her, which is strange considering the dress is customed.

Her hair is a disaster and ruins anything that is good here.

Worst Hair Award
A pair of straighteners would have sorted that mess right out.

I would have much preferred it if this Calvin Klein dress was a plunge-neck instead of a turtle neck.

Your TV Stylist & Your Red Carpet Stylist Should Meet Award
What is up with Blake Lively lately on the red carpet?

For me she is hitting foul balls left, right and center. Her style started off great on the red carpet, but has been on a downward spiral ever since.

Blake was meant to be the Sarah Jessica Parker of my sisters generation both on and off the red carpet, but it is just not working. She looks about 20 years older than what she is here in this Ralph Lauren Fall 2008 strapless gown with feathered detail….Booorring.

As usual, I expected more for young Blake. Whoever is dressing her for Gossip Girl, needs to sprinkle some of that magic onto the red carpet.

Where was Leighton Meester? She would not have looked this bad.

Most Disappointing Award
This one goes out to Victoria Beckham, David of course looks gorgeous.

I love Victoria Beckham so this hurts, but her dress is too see-through and she appears to have nothing underneath, so I feel like I can see her boobs, her face looks too pale and I usually like her hair up but on this occasion, not so much.

It would also have no killed her to have smiled at least once on the red carpet.

Worst Dress/Shoes Combo
Here is another person I was not expecting to see on the worst list.

Katie Holmes looks great from the ankles up. Her vintage Giorgio Armani red sequined beaded bustier and full ball gown skirt from the Fall 1993 collection is amazing as is her Boucheron jewels, but why OH WHY did she wear those blue Louboutins?

Worst Embellishments Award
I was torn on Mischa Barton’s Missoni dress for a while.

I like the chiffon straps, but I am not so keen on the dripping bead work and the gold skirt with a taupe overlay.

Lame Award
Isn’t it amazing how Michelle Trachtenberg has matched her skirt to her gold lame petal nipple covers?

She is not quite rockin’ this vintage YSL dress in a way I had hoped.

Far Too Safe Award
Sarah Michelle Gellar was far too safe with this black shapeless strapless Bottega Veneta dress.

Worst Hair Accessories Award
I know thanks to Gossip Girl headbands are back, but I am not loving the jeweled headband on Amanda Peet. I am also not crazy about her moody Derek Lam Fall 2008 strapless gown with a matching waist belt.

Most Uncomfortable Award
It looks like Eva Amurri can not breath in this Louis Vuitton Fall 2008 dress.

Eva is a busty lady, and this dress is crushing her lady lumps.

Worst One Sleeve Award
I am NOT a fan of the one long sleeve and this ruins what would have been a great night for Fergie in Calvin Klein.

One-shouldered or even strapless would have worked better.

Worst Use Of Colour Award
Kimora Lee Simmons’ kids did not colour-in her dress. This dress was actually designed like this by Kevan Hall.

Worst Lace Award
I was never a fan of the entire Prada Fall 2008 collection being lace and was hoping not see it on the red carpet.

Unfortunately Tilda Swinton is wearing this Prada Fall 2008 beige lace dress, and to make matters worse, she wore an orange brooch and a green velvet shoes.
