Greta Gerwig In Donna Karan Atelier - 2014 Golden Globe Awards

Greta Gerwig attended the 2014 Golden Globe Awards, held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on Sunday (January 12).

The actress wore a Donna Karan Atelier black pleated crinolin tea-length gown embroidered with jet glass.

Looking every inch a couture ballerina, the actress swept her hair up into a chic chignon styling her look with black Louboutin pumps and sparkling jewels.

Kate Mara In J Mendel - 2014 Golden Globes Awards

Kate Mara attended the 2014 Golden Globes Awards, held at the Beverley Hilton Hotel in Beverley Hills, California on Sunday (Janaury 12).

The actress wore a J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2014 gown with a deep v-neckline and a sheer chiffon pleated underlay which shows off more boobage than we are used to seeing from the timid star.

While this feels like something Judy Jetson would wear to a grand occasion, due to the futuristic vibe considering the fabric and the shoulders, I think Kate makes it work.

Opting for subtle jewels by Lorraine Schwartz, she completed her look with kohl-rimmed eyes and a backcombed updo.

Laura Carmichael In Viktor & Rolf - 2014 Golden Globes Awards

‘Downton Abbey’ star Laura Carmichael attended the 2014 Golden Globes Awards, held at the Beverley Hilton Hotel in Beverley Hills, California on Sunday (Janaury 12).

The British actress wore a custom sleek white Viktor & Rolf column dress with sweetheart neckline and black side-panel detailing styled with a sparkling clutch and Jerome C. Rousseau shoes.

Having heavily supporting British designers on the red carpet it was a welcome change to see Laura in a Parisian powerhouse label.

The white gown was also surprising choice considering Laura’s pale complexion, but it worked. Simple and understated yet elegant and chic, what’s not to like?

But what I do I find ever so slightly disappointing about this look is the hair.

Taissa Farmiga In Elie Saab - 2014 Golden Globe Awards

Taissa Farmiga emerged on the scene at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards, held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on Sunday (January 12).

The ‘American Horror Story’ up-and-coming starlet bucked the evening’s penchant for longer gowns, instead opting for a youthful, off-white frock from Elie Saab’s Spring 2014 collection.

The short dress was a charming one, what with its romantic, lacy layers. But the creamy colour nearly blended into her alabaster complexion, creating a bit of a plain, one-note effect.

Stuart Weitzman’s ‘Nudist’ sandals did nothing to bring a much-needed punch of lively colour to the look, nor did her barely-pink lip.

GG14_LizzyCaplan

Lizzy Caplan walked the red carpet at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (January 12) at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

The ‘Masters of Sex’ actress really amped up her sartorial sex appeal in a gown by Emilio Pucci Spring 2014.

The black and silver column dress had an Art Deco feel that was different from anything seen on the red carpet. The silver-hued long sleeves with side details created a beautiful and texturally interesting design.

Lizzy completed the look with a Rauwolf clutch, Bionda Castana heels, and structure-yet-feminine waves.

This is an award-winner in my book. Do you agree?

Cate Blanchett In Armani Privé Couture - 2014 Golden Globe Awards

Cate Blanchett turned up the drama at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on Sunday night (January 12).

The ‘Blue Jasmine’ star and best actress winner was the epitome of sultry sophistication in a black, sheer-effect Armani Privé Fall 2013 Couture tulle and lace gown that had the quality of being both darkly glamorous and delicately fragile.

The back of this decadent confection, which featured an ever-so-artful and provocative plunge, may have even captivated me more than the front view.

She styled the look with Jimmy Choo ‘Esam’ pumps, but it was her statement Chopard diamond earrings that were the attention-grabbing stunners that really sparkled against the dress.

A side-parted, tucked-under faux bob and magenta-tinted red lip were a modern spin on the old Hollywood beauty classics.

Were you as taken by queen Cate as I?
