90th Annual Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon Red Carpet Roundup

The 90th Annual Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon on Monday (February 5) in Beverly Hills, California saw more stars in attendance along with Saoirse Ronan, Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.

Laurie Metcalf: While many attendees opted for shorter frocks, Laurie went for a long Temperley London gown that featured a striking metallic pattern. Yet, it was geared more to an evening red carpet. Pierre Hardy ‘Blondie’ sandals completed her look.

Allison Janney: I like the rich, inky colour of this Georges Chakra Couture Fall 2017 dress. It’s the illusion neckline and side cutouts that offer a less modern element.

Sally Hawkins: I think the extra-roomy proportions of this dotted Rosie Assoulin Spring 2018 ensemble created more of a loungewear vibe than was likely intended.

Mary J Blige In Azzaro Couture – 33rd Santa Barbara International Film Festival: Virtuosos Award

Mary J. Blige attended the Virtuosos Award during The 33rd Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Saturday (February 3) in California.

After enjoying her turn around in style during awards season, I found myself disappointed by this Azzaro Fall 2017 Couture dress.

I’m tempted to say she should’ve saved this for the Grammys or the American Music Awards, but my issue with the dress is that it feels really dated, too glitzy and out-of-place for the occasion.

Mary J Blige In Jean-Louis Sabaji – 2018 SAG Awards

Mary J. Blige attended the 2018 SAG Awards on Sunday (January 21) in Los Angeles, California, where she was nominated for two awards.

The ‘Mudbound’ actress skipped shimmering embellishment for a Jean-Louis Sabaji dress that had a striking feather effect.

I’m sure that there will be many ‘Black Swan’ comparisons for the way the long white sleeve and feathers fade to black.

The detail was unique but very flattering because of how it drew attention to her face and frame.

David Webb jewels added some sparkle.

Mary J Blige In Elie Saab – 2018 Producers Guild Awards

Mary J. Blige attended the 2018 Producers Guild Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday (January 20).

For the affair, she wore a Elie Saab gown from the 2018 collection with Chopard jewels.

Elie Saab and the singer don’t typically share a similar aesthetic, but with the more mod, tailored looks in the designer’s Spring collection, this really is a perfect match.  Both the bright color and caped sleeves offer the drama Mary J. loves and those pops of lace keep things just demure enough.

2018 Critics’ Choice Awards Red Carpet Roundup

Following the 2018 Golden Globes black dress code, the 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards on Thursday (January 11) showcased a range of colours, styles and designers.

Reese Witherspoon: The actress’s most memorable looks often have bold colours, so I was surprised she opted for a black Prada dress. That being said, I thought the short length really worked for her, with the embellishment adding some vicariousness. The Roger Vivier shoes enhanced the playful mood.

Emma Roberts: Her choppy blonde fringe was certainly a talking point, but the elegant simplicity of her Giorgio Armani gown didn’t go unnoticed. The strapless column fit perfectly. She styled it in a very modern way with the gold-toned accessories and by leaving the neckline bare.

Emilia Clarke: Like Reese, the ‘Game of Thrones’ star opted for a shorter black dress. She wore a Dolce & Gabbana frock with Gianvito Rossi sandals. I would have loved to see the look completed with a red lip as it would have added some warmth while playing up the brand’s Italian film star aesthetic.

Mary J Blige In Alberta Ferretti – 2018 Golden Globe Awards

Mary J. Blige wowed at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (January 7), joining Angelina Jolie and Diane Kruger.

The ‘Mudbound’ actress was outfitted in a custom Alberta Ferretti gown which was in keeping with the night’s black dress code.

The designer wouldn’t have been the first one I would have expected her to wear, but this collaboration was successful as this look is very much in her wheelhouse.

The mix of fabrics has a decadence and doesn’t feel disjointed. Plus, the shine of the long sleeve was enhanced with Chopard jewels.

If I’m being fussy, I would have preferred a cuff that better coordinated with the shimmering material as the white jars with the rest of the look.

The BAFTA Los Angeles Tea Party

There were many more stars in attendance at the BAFTA Los Angeles Tea Party, joining Diane Kruger on Saturday (January 6).

Michelle Williams: As we might have predicted, the actress was dressed in a Louis Vuitton design—this one a basic variation on a sheath dress with a graphic pattern to add visual interest.

Issa Rae: Continuing her sunny-yellow mood from the 2018 AFI Awards, Issa donned a Rosie Assoulin Spring 2018 frock that featured a sense of girly playfulness in the oversized ruffle detail. With Monica Vinader jewels to round out the look, she kept the styling simple and sleek this time around.

Emma Watson: Emma debuted a short set of bangs that had a certain Sofia Boutella influence to go with her Osman Resort 2018 ensemble. The sharp look prominently celebrated the menswear trend, with Susi Studio loafers contributing to that theme.
