Front Row @ Jason Wu Spring 2014

Designer Jason Wu’s always anticipated NYFW show took place yesterday, and as usual, his front row was graced by several notable ladies.

Jessica Pare: The ‘Mad Men’ actress wore a Jason Wu Resort 2014 lace overlay illusion dress and looked every bit the Wu posterchild in the sleek and chic ensemble.

Maria Sharapova: The tennis star paired her long-sleeved Jason Wu dress with black peep-toe booties and Joan Hornig earrings.

Alicia Keys: The singer also wore black, and her Jason Wu short-sleeve dot-yoke peplum top paired with a black pencil skirt was playful and flattering.

31 Phillip Lim for Target Launch Event

The 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target collection doesn’t hit stores until September 15, with prices ranging from $19.99 to $299.99 for apparel and $19.99 to $59.99 for accessories, so just to further whet our appetites, the designer hosted a party to celebrate the collaboration at Spring Studios in New York City yesterday evening, inviting along some of his loyal celebrity fans.

Jessica Alba: The actress wore the ‘Boom’ print sweatshirt ($29.99) – which I predict will be one of the pieces many people will be hoping to get their hands on – which was inspired by the designer’s ‘Ka-Pow’ sweater from the Pre-Fall 2012 collection. Jessica styled her sweater with two-tone black-and-blue tuxedo pants ($39.99) and a 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target bag which was inspired by the ‘Pashli’ bag, with red Christian Louboutin ‘Decollete 554′ pumps completing her laidback I-want-every-piece look.

Maria Sharapova: The tennis star wore a colour-block look, opting for a navy-and-green pullover ($34.99) with a navy banded skirt ($29.99), adding her own touch via her white Nicholas Kirkwood gold-and-white resin hexagon accented pumps from the designer’s HEX collection.

Solange Knowles: Also working a high-low mix, the singer worked a navy-and-black tuxedo ($59.99) with, of course, a colourful animal-printed skirt ($29.99). Givenchy sandals and a Fendi clutch accessorized her look, with an additional pop of colour coming from her vivid red lip shade.

Maria Sharapova In Preen - 2013 Style Awards

Maria Sharapova joined Jessica Paré and Nicole Richie on the red carpet at the Lincoln Center in New York City for the 2013 Style Awards.

The tennis star, who was forced out of the US open due to a shoulder injury, was able to concentrate on her second love – fashion.

Working a clean, crisp, summery look to the fullest, she wore a silver-embellished white sleeveless top with a sequinned skirt featuring a wrap-style silhouette and solid back panel from Preen’s Spring 2013 collection.

Taupe Louboutin pumps wouldn’t have been my first choice. I wish she’d opted for something as light and delicate as her ensemble. I hear a thud when I come to her footwear.

Maria Sharapova In David Koma - 'Sugarpova Accessory Collection' Launch

Maria Sharapova celebrated the one-year anniversary of Sugarpova by launching the ‘Sugarpova Accessory Collection’ exclusively at Henri Bendel in New York City yesterday afternoon.

I’m not sure if it was a total coincidence but Maria wore a David Koma Fall 2013 dress, following the David Koma Fall 2012 dress she wore to the launch a year ago.

On this occasion she selected a blue mini dress with a flounced hem featuring leather panels which mimicked the grooves of a vinyl album. A sheer bodice is a fashion-forward choice for a Tuesday afternoon; however, I don’t think Maria is working it so confidently.

The shoes are a letdown and I wish the nude panel under her dress was a closer match to her skin tone.

On the plus side, her wavy tresses and pretty pink lip colour are perfection.

Maria Sharapova In J Mendel - 2013 ESPY Awards

With a few too many dark colours at this event, I was thankful for Maria Sharapova’s fresh look at the 2013 ESPY Awards held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in California yesterday evening, where she was up for Tennis Player of the Year.

The blonde star wore a J. Mendel Resort 2014 frock with a 50s retro feel, with metallic-silver accents within the pastel-green hues giving the look a modern feel.

The black detailing at the hem bothered me at first, but now I like how it adds an unexpected edge to the look, preventing it from feeling too twee.

Possibly with the black hem in mind, she opted for black Casadei pumps when silver sandals would’ve been my personal preference.

Beach waves, pink lips, and Irene Neuwirth jewelry completed her look.

Maria Sharapova In Valentino - Porsche Design And Vogue Re-Opening Event

Maria Sharapova attended the Porsche Design and Vogue re-opening event at Porsche Design Beverly Hills in Beverly Hills, California yesterday evening.

The tennis player wore a Valentino Fall 2013 long-sleeved black dress featuring a contrast collar and yoke, a sheer organza insert at the shoulders, contrast buttoned cuffs and an inverted pleat at the front.

As someone not a fan of such shapeless dresses, I oddly find myself very intrigued by this look.

The styling, which included a gold Ferragamo clutch and black Louboutin pumps, is too muted for my liking, but works perfectly well with the dress.

A low-slung ponytail and barely there makeup completed the look.

Does this get a thumbs up or down from you?
