Lupita Nyong’o In Peter Pilotto – 2014 Film Independent Filmmaker Grant And Spirit Awards Nominees Brunch

Lupita Nyong'o In Peter Pilotto - 2014 Film Independent Filmmaker Grant And Spirit Awards Nominees Brunch

In look number two of her many looks this weekend, Lupita Nyong’o attended the 2014 Film Independent Filmmaker Grant and Spirit Awards nominees’ brunch held at BOA Steakhouse on Saturday (January 11) in West Hollywood, California alongside Melonie Diaz.

After showcasing her love for bold colour, this Peter Pilotto Resort 2014 top-and-shorts combo showcases her love for prints, consisting of a mixture of prints – I’m surprised this hasn’t already been worn by Solange Knowles.

For the brunch her easy-breezy summery look was styled with white Sophia Webster pumps, an Anya Hindmarch clutch and W. Britt jewels.

She is the one to watch because her style is so inspirational, varied and vibrant. Her stylist must be working overtime.

Lupita Nyong’o In Victoria Beckham – ’12 Years A Slave’ Cocktail Party hosted by InStyle

Lupita Nyong'o In Victoria Beckham - '12 Years A Slave' Cocktail Party hosted by InStyle

Lupita Nyong’o is the actress everyone’s talking about, and now every designer wants to dress. So Victoria Beckham must be thrilled to see Lupita wearing one of her dresses at yesterday’s (Janaury 11) ’12 years a Slave’ Cocktail Party hosted by InStyle.

I love Lupita’s ability to wear such vibrant colour and bold accessories like the pointed Preen by ALDO pumps and glistening Edie Parker clutch here. She looks so bright and refreshing, and the body-hugging dress with deep V neck-line is perfect for showing off this rising stars amazingly toned body.

Lupita is on a roll with stand-out dresses, and has of course wowed in yellow before, when it was the turn of J. Mendel at the 2013 Hollywood Film Awards.

The finishing touch? Red carpet-worthy Kuwait jewels and bold, colourful eye make-up and nails, just the way we like it.

Lupita Nyong’o In Carolina Herrera – AFI Awards 2014

Lupita Nyong'o In Carolina Herrera - AFI Awards 2014

When I saw Lupita Nyong’o at the 14th annual AFI Awards Luncheon held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills this afternoon (January 10) I gave a sigh of relief.

Thankfully that strange hairdo sported at the W magazine party was just an one-off.

The actress was back to her best wearing blue-and-yellow floral print Carolina Herrera v-neck frock with an asymmetrical draped skirt.

She complemented the look with blue suede Manolo Blahnik pumps and dazzling Jamie Wolf scallop stud earrings and a matching cocktail ring.

Many of you were not only put off by the hairdo of the last look, but also the styling; so how does Lupita fare on this occasion?

Lupita Nyong’o In Proenza Schouler – W Magazine ‘Best Performances’ Portfolio Celebration

Lupita Nyong'o In Proenza Schouler - W Magazine 'Best Performances' Portfolio Celebration

Lupita Nyong’o attended the W Magazine celebration of the ‘Best Performances’ portfolio held at Chateau Marmont on Thursday (January 9) in Los Angeles, California.

The actress, who is creating a lot of buzz for awards season – not only for her performance in ’12 Years a Slave’ but also for her savvy style – wore a Proenza Schouler Resort 2014 black dress, which she styled with a black-and-white PS ponyskin ‘Lunch’ clutch and black PS shoes, with Jennifer Meyer jewels completing the look.

I love the easy-wear vibe to her LBD, with its crossing-at-the-bodice cut-out detailing, but I don’t like the Grace Jones redux hairdo.

W Magazine’s Movie Issue

W Magazine Movie Issue

W magazine’s ‘Movie’ issue features six different covers chronicling the best films and performances of 2013, including Amy Adams, Oprah, Lupita Nyong’o, Jennifer Lawrence (in Dolce & Gabbana), Cate Blanchett and Matthew McConaughey, all of which were captured by Juergen Teller.

The surprising thing about these covers is that Jennifer doesn’t appear to be wearing Dior; that honour was bestowed upon Lupita.

Jennifer shared with the mag that moment when she fell at the 2013 Oscars, saying “I was at the Oscars, waiting to hear if my name was called, and I kept thinking, ‘Cakewalk, cakewalk, cakewalk’. I thought, ‘Why is ‘cakewalk’ stuck in my head? ’ And then, as I started to walk up the stairs and the fabric from my dress tucked under my feet, I realized my stylist had told me ‘Kick, walk, kick, walk.’ You are supposed to kick the dress out while you walk, and I totally forgot because I was thinking about cake! And that’s why I fell”.

Which cover will you be picking up?

Lupita Nyong’o In Elie Saab Couture – 2014 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala

Lupita Nyong'o In Elie Saab Couture - 2014 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala

Having championed Lupita Nyong’o from the very beginning, I was delighted to see the actress keep the good work going from 2013 by kick starting 2014 in fine fashion for the 25th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala held at the Palm Springs Convention Center on Sunday (January 4) in Palm Springs, California.

She wore none other than Elie Saab Couture, donning a stunning coral sleeveless dress with gold brocade embellishments from the Fall 2012 collection, opting for a matchy-matchy look with Christian Louboutin ‘Gwynitta’ sandals, a belt and a grand 3/4 sleeve coat from the same collection.

While the coat does give this look a regal air of sophistication, I do prefer Lupita’s look without it, as more of her silky smooth complexion is seen against this breath-taking gold and coral combo.

Cartier jewels and a chocolate lip colour completed her look.

Is she still your one to watch for awards season?

Best Newcomer & Breakout Star 2013 – Lupita Nyong’o

Best Newcomer & Breakout Star 2013 - Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita Nyong’o came out of nowhere and took the red carpet by storm this year and her reign has only been 4 short months, yet she’s standing shoulder to shoulder alongside veterans like Diane Kruger and Cate Blanchett as, like them, she is very consistent, possesses great style and has an elegant grace about her that has made her so fascinating to watch.

From her very first look in Prada back in September during the Toronto Film Festival, which gave me goosebumps, I knew she was going to be something special; how special I could never have predicted, but you voting her your Best Newcomer of 2013 proves you believe it too.

She has since gone on to give us many memorable moments in Rodarte, Miu Miu, Lanvin, Prabal Gurung and, most recently, my favourite, Elie Saab.

Lupita is a refreshing beauty with great style, but let’s not forget her credentials as a talented actress and filmmaker.

With SAG, Golden Globe and Independent Spirit Awards nominations for Best Supporting Actress in ’12 Years A Slave’ under her belt so far, we can look forward to many more impressive red carpet moments from Lupita during awards season in 2014.
