Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Lupita Nyong’o made a guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel last night (January 14) where she talked about going from being a student at Yale, to starring in ’12 Years A Slave’, to meeting people she’s starstruck over like Leonardo DiCaprio at The Golden Globes on Sunday.

With her fashion-icon status all but sealed, every item she wears will come under closer scrutiny, but she appears to be taking it all in her stride. Even Jimmy commented on her dress during this interview.

The actress wore a sporty Jonathan Cohen Spring 2014 frock featuring a surfer print in a cool-blue hue, with matching pumps and a bright-red lip rounding out her look.

Her short ‘do was again side parted, this time in two places, as she continued to pay homage to the formidable Grace Jones.

Miu Miu Spring 2014 ad campaign (2)

Miu Miu’s Spring 2014 campaign features a few of our favourite Hollywood starlets.

Lupita Nyong’o, who has been wearing a lot of Prada/Miu Miu lately; Elle Fanning, who wears the same dress we recently saw on Miu Miu’s Resort 2014 campaign girl; Lea Seydoux; Elizabeth Olsen, who sports super-long locks for the campaign; and Bella Heathcote, who is totally unrecognisable.

Apart from the mix of young talent, I love this campaign’s vintage-inspired styling. I have my eye on those Courrèges coats, cute thigh-high pop socks, and Olsen’s tan suede lace-up boots.

Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shot the campaign back in November, just as the buzz around Lupita was bubbling.

“The actresses’ poses, full of personality, convey their diverse points of view, effortlessly translating the new spirit of the Miu Miu woman”, said Miuccia Prada.

Lupita Nyong’o In Ralph Lauren - 2014 Golden Globe Awards

Lupita Nyong’o was a vision in red at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards, hosted at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on Sunday (January 12).

The ’12 Years a Slave’ star and supporting actress nominee has also emerged as a new fashion ‘it’ girl, and she didn’t disappoint tonight.

Her off-the-shoulder Ralph Lauren red silk cady cape dress from the Spring 2014 runway had all the drama for which I had hoped—even though I couldn’t help but think of Gwyneth Paltrow’s similar Tom Ford white cape-dress wow moment at the 2012 Oscars.

A few well-placed Fred Leighton jewels, including sparkling stud earrings and cocktail rings, rounded out the look, as a necklace would have ruined the effect.

While I loved the metallic gold eye shadow and the subtle punch of a violet liner under her eyes, not to mention the classic red lip, the more questionable ‘Grace Jones’-inspired ’do also made a repeat appearance.

Lupita Nyong'o In Altuzarra - 39th Annual Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards

Rounding out an epic weekend, Lupita Nyong’o attended the 39th Annual Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards held at InterContinental Hotel on Saturday (January 11) in Century City, California, wearing her fourth look following the ’12 Years a Slave’ cocktail party hosted by InStyle, the 2014 Film Independent Filmmaker Grant and Spirit Awards nominees’ brunch, and the DuJour magazine party.

Opting for a simpler look compared to all the colour-and-print love she was showcasing earlier, she wore an Altuzarra soft-grey ‘Marlene’ dress from the Pre-Fall 2014 collection.

Styled with a Dior Fine Jewelry ‘Pre Catelan’ yellow-gold-diamond-and-chalcedony ring and matching earrings, plus a divine pair of Bruno Magli lilac patent leather’ Olabisi’ pumps, I’m thankful her shoe choice was not black or white on this occasion.

Many of you haven’t been too enamoured with her shoe choices, so how does this one fair?

Of Lupita’s four looks this weekend, which was your favourite?

The Victoria Beckham and Mary Katrantzou dresses are a tie for me. How could I choose between that colour and that bold print?

Lupita Nyong'o In Mary Katrantzou - DuJour Magazine Cover Party

DuJour Magazine hosted a party to celebrate their ‘Great Performances Issue’, for which girl of the moment Lupita Nyong’o is the cover star.

The Kenyan-born actress took to the red carpet as the guest of honour at the new Herringbone restaurant at the Mondrian LA on Saturday (January 11) in Beverly Hills, California.

She looked delightful, as always, wearing a Mary Katrantzou ‘Babelona’ dress from the Resort 2014 collection, detailed with an immaculately placed dreamscape print in a pretty pastel-blue hue.

As if the print wasn’t enough to grab your attention, she added a vibrant pair of Paul Andrew violet pumps, with a metallic-blue-and-purple Sophia Webster polka-dot clutch and jewels courtesy of Jamie Wolf and Dana Rebecca Designs completing her look.

The shoes are a tad too heavy for me, do they work for you?
