Lupita Nyong'o In Cushnie Et Ochs - Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

Lupita Nyong’o made a guest appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday (January 22).

The ’12 Years a Slave’ SAG and Critics’ Choice Award winner, shared stories about her family, their reaction to her much-deserved Oscar nomination and that she thought Emma Thompson was ‘a riot’ having photobombed her on the red SAGs carpet.

Dressed in a Cushnie et Ochs Spring 2014 sleeveless cowl neck crop top and high-waist, wide-leg trousers, it’s once again the colour which I find so captivating about this look.

We haven’t seen her wear many looks featuring trousers, so this is a nice change of pace.

It’s always exciting to see what she’s going to wear next. While you all know what dress I would like to see her wear on the red carpet at the Oscars, the honour will surely go to Miuccia Prada, considering Lupita is the current face of Miu Miu.

Best Dressed Of The Week - Lupita Nyong'o In Ralph Lauren & Calvin Klein Collection and Chris Pine In Ermenegildo Zegna Couture2

You know you are a fashion force to be reckoned with when on a best-dressed poll the only person you are in competition with is yourself. That is what happened this week when Lupita Nyong’o's Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein Collection looks ended up first and second place.

The majority of you picked Lupita’s Ralph Lauren Golden Globes gown. I also loved this look, but my favourite was the Calvin Klein Collection custom gown.

The Ralph Lauren look had too much of a Gwyneth Paltrow/Zhang Ziyi déjà vu-ness about it, which lost it half a point.

However, don’t be surprised if the Ralph Lauren ends up in my BDOTY list ahead of the CK, because that cape is clearly the more memorable ‘I’ve really arrived’ look.

When it came to the fellas there was no such dilemma. It was Team Chris Pine all the way; he took looking devilishly handsome, in a classic Ermenegildo Zegna Couture suit, to a whole new level.

20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - ArrivalsIf anyone doesn’t believe that Lupita Nyong’o is ‘the one to watch’ on the red carpet this award season, they haven’t been paying attention to the stunning fashion and beauty choices the newcomer has been making in the past few weeks. At the SAG Awards on Saturday night, it was no exception. Lupita’s stunning Gucci gown was a real attention-grabber, and her makeup was just as striking.

Lupita’s makeup artist, Nick Barose, explains that her makeup was inspired by Lupita’s gown–”the flowers across Lupita’s chest inspired me to do something with her eyes that reminded me of butterflies on flowers” but “to keep the look from being too matchy-matchy, I kept the blue eyeshadow only in the inner corners of the eyes, and then mixed in two other colours, purple and yellow, to mimic butterfly wings. Lupita can carry colour like no one else.”

To start things off, Nick massaged Chanel Sublimage L’Essence Essential Revitalizing Concentrate and Chanel Sublimage La Crème Yeux into Lupita’s skin, let it sit for five minutes, and then blotted it off with tissue, so it left behind just enough moisture for a perfect canvas.

Then, since her eyes were going to be so colourful, Nick didn’t want Lupita to look like she was wearing blush, so he dusted Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Emotion onto the apples of her cheeks to add dimension. Next, he applied Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour on to her T-zone, under her eyes, onto the bridge of her nose and along her chin to brighten up her face.

For the statement-making eyes, Nick used the bright turquoise shade (top left) from the Chanel Les 4 Ombre Quadra Eye Shadow in Fascination from the inner corner of Lupita’s eyes to the center, and then applied Chanel Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Amethyst from the outer corners toward the center, but did not let the two colours meet.

Then he used Chanel Limited Edition Le Crayon Khôl Intense Eye Pencil in Pêche Cuivré in the center of the eyes, blending it into the other two colours with his fingers. Next, he took a small shadow brush and combined all the colours together, to make sure you couldn’t see where each colour ended.

Then he took the Pêche Cuivré pencil again and coloured along Lupita’s brow bone and took Chanel Stylo Yeux Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Noir Intense and lined the lash lines and applied two coats of Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara Multi-Dimensionnel in Noir on the upper lashes only.

To finish the eyes, Nick used Chanel Stylo Yeux Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Violine from the inner corner to the outer corner along the lower lashline, and then topped that off with the same purple shadow he used on the lids.

To make sure the brows looked polished, but not too bold, Nick used Chanel Crayon Sourcils Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Brun Cendré to create a fuller shape, and then went over that with a bronze eye shadow to tone the colour down.

Finally, for her lips, Nick shares, “We did break the beauty rule of ‘if you do dramatic eyes, don’t do bright lips,’ but this look called for something whimsical, so a neutral lip would have fallen flat.”

First, he used Chanel Rouge Coco Baume Hydration Conditioning Lip Balm and let it sit on the lips to moisturize, before then blotting it off. Then, he traced the edges of the lips with Chanel Le Crayon Lèvres Precision Lip Definer in Framboise and then filled them all in, and then blotted it off. Next, he applied Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Passion, which he also blotted off. “To make the lips look like a stain and not too lipstick-y, I just removed the colour as I went,” explains Nick. “That way the colour popped in a gentle way and gave the look a feminine touch.”

Lupity Nyong'o -- SAG Awards Manicure copy

SAG Award winner, Lupita Nyong’o was certainly the bell of that ball at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. While the beautiful star stunned in a teal-blue Gucci gown, it was her copper manicure that was doing most of the sparkling. Deborah Lippmann took her nail expertise to the next level by creating a unique look exclusively from her nail lacquer collection for the featured red carpet starlet.

Starting with a fortified and chip resistant base, Deborah chose to coat nails in her Gel Lab Base Coat. This starter coat not only prolongs a manicure but it protects nails without any harsh gel lights.

For colour, Deborah created a new shade by layering two polishes. For the first color, she opted for a single coat of Swagga Like Us, an oxidized cooper color with a hint of teal. The mirrored chrome finish of the polish served as a festive base for next nail shade.

Deborah followed with one coat of Chain Reaction, a dirty brass glimmer colour. Featured in her latest ‘Rock This Town’ trio collection, the muted shimmer finish of the polish looked especially radiant layered over the previous shade. The blended polished made for a beautifully shimmering copper colour that perfectly complimented her full look.

Finally, to seal the picture perfect manicure, Deborah polished nails in Gel Lab Top Coat.

A fabulous blend that rivaled the lovely metal tones of the SAG Award, this manicure is a must-have look. Would you try this polish blend for your next manicure?

Lupita Nyong'o In Stella McCartney - 2014 Producers Guild of America Awards

Lupita Nyong’o attended the 25th annual Producers Guild of America Awards at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday (January 19) in Beverly Hills, California following yet another breathtaking red carpet appearance at the SAG Awards on Saturday.

The stunning actress wore a fitted Stella McCartney knee-length frock with an asymmetrical shoulder in a beautiful fawn hue, which looked gorgeous against her smooth skin.

Opting to go matchy matchy with the snakeskin clutch, I wish she’d gone one step further with the strappy Stella McCartney sandals, which are brown and totally anonymous here.

A berry lip colour and Jamie Wolf earrings completed yet another striking look.

Stand back; we don’t want this roll to end.

Lupita Nyong'o In Gucci - 2014 SAG Awards

Lupita Nyong’o continued her impressive style streak at the 2014 SAG Awards on Saturday (January 18) at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California.

With every look seemingly better than the next, the ’12 Years a Slave’ star completely blew me away in a one-of-a-kind Gucci stunner with a subtle train, which thankfully received even more stage time, given her outstanding supporting actress win.

Not only was the turquoise colour completely earth-shattering, the silk crepe column gown’s gold-and-turquoise, floral-embroidered straps were absolute artistry.

On the red carpet, Lupita said she fell in love with the flowers and the nature aspect of the design—and rightfully so.

The perfection continued with delicate Fred Leighton jewels that complemented, rather than cluttered, the dress, along with a gorgeous makeup look that included striking teal and pink eye shadow and a magenta lip.

Were you as enamoured with this entrance as I?

Lupita Nyong'o In Vintage Valentina - Entertainment Weekly's SAG Awards Nominees Party

Lupita Nyong’o attended Entertainment Weekly’s celebration honoring the 2014 SAG Awards nominees, held at the Chateau Marmont on Friday (January 17) in Los Angeles, California joining Kerry Washington and Alyssa Milano.

The breakout star of awards season, who has already exceeded many of our expectations on the red carpet, wore a fancy vintage Valentina dress from New York Vintage for her red carpet look.

Her 60s frock with floral embroidered detailing and colourful bead work was styled with an Amanda Pearl clutch, Paul Andrew pewter pumps and Platt jewels including a hair brooch, which perhaps wasn’t really needed with this look, but I appreciate the efforts to keep her cropped do interesting.

Many of you have said that while you love Lupita’s style, the shoes can often leave a lot to be desired.

In this case I agree. Loving this look from the ankles up.
