Get The Look: Lupita Nyong’o’s Met Gala Makeup

"Charles James: Beyond Fashion" Costume Institute Gala - Arrivals

Channeling a modern-day Josephine Baker, celeb makeup artist Nick Barose used a variety of modern colors and textures for Lupita’s look at the Met Ball.

He gave her a beautiful purple smokey eye with the Lancôme Color Design Eye Shadow in Miss Sweetheart D and accented her brows with the Lancôme Le Crayon Poudre.

A few coats of Lancôme Hypnose Mascara in Black and her eye look was complete.

For her pink cheeks, he went with the Armani Maestro Blush in 300 and layered it with the Armani Cheek Fabric in 509.

Her lips were a combination of Lancôme Le Lipstique Lip Colouring Stick in Sheer Chocolate and the Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Lipcolor in Bordeaux.

The end result?

Gorgeous complementary colors that truly paired well with her dress weather you like it or disliked it.

Lupita Nyong’o In Prada – 2014 Met Gala

Lupita Nyong’o In Prada - 2014 Met Gala

Lupita Nyong’o marched to the beat of her own (and Miuccia Prada’s) fashion drum as she hit the red carpet at the 2014 Met Gala, hosted on Monday (May 5) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

I couldn’t wait to see what the actress, style-setter and Miu Miu Spring 2014 campaign model would be wearing to the Met’s fashion extravaganza. She certainly left me speechless in her custom Prada concoction.

In one of the riskiest (to put it mildly), more excessively theatrical sartorial moves of the evening, Lupita paraded out the emerald-green netted dress, assembled with glass beads, crystals and chandelier drops and enhanced with cascades of feathers down the sides and at the bottom hem.

Worn over a brown slip dress, this design had precious little in common with the refined, classic looks in the Charles James exhibit. But it’s hard to deny that she is not rocking it like a pro.

Forget the gala, Lupita’s dress was the party, and the fun only continued with her matching emerald headband, military green suede sandals embellished with large stones and a green raso clutch, all by Prada.

Her hair even seemed to be highlighted with a shade of deep plum to embolden the look further—as if it needed it.

I am still waiting for the shock to wear off. This statement will definitely go down in Met Ball history. What do you make of it?

Lupita Nyong’o In Oscar de la Renta – 100th Annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner

Lupita Nyong'o In Oscar de la Renta - 100th Annual White House Correspondents' Association Dinner

Lupita Nyong’o attended the 100th Annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner at the Washington Hilton on Saturday (May 3) in Washington, DC.

I hate to say it, but I’m not crazy about this Oscar de la Renta Fall 2014 gown at all.

It had great potential to be another Lupita fashion homerun, but sadly this look is making her appear wider than she is.

I don’t think it’s the fault of the tulle black-and-white polka dot peplum, but rather the black silk faille skirt. It needed to be narrower, more streamlined and shorter as it is bunching up on the floor.

I’m surprised at how bad the skirt is tailored.

Look back to her Dior Couture BAFTAs gown where she looked 6ft tall, then come back to this. This gown has the opposite, shortening effect.

A complementary Oscar de la Renta ‘Goa’ clutch, Fred Leighton jewels and a hot-pink lip completed her look.

Lupita Nyong’o In Giambattista Valli – 2014 Annual Garden Brunch

Lupita Nyong'o In Giambattista Valli - 2014 Annual Garden Brunch

Lupita Nyong’o started her day attending the 2014 Annual Garden Brunch held at the Beall-Washington House on Saturday (May 3) in Washington, DC.

The Oscar-winning actress wore a red and white Giambattista Valli Fall 2014 strapless silk floral-print dress with a nipped in waist and flared skirt.

Her ladies-who-brunch look was styled with champagne coloured Christian Louboutin pumps, a Judith Leiber clutch, and Fred Leighton jewelry.

This is such a dainty, feminine event-appropriate look. I’m glad it wasn’t overplayed with too much fuss.

Lupita Nyong’o In Bibhu Mohapatra – People and Time Magazine White House Correspondents Cocktail Party

Lupita Nyong'o In Bibhu Mohapatra - People and Time Magazine White House Correspondents Cocktail PartyLupita Nyong’o returned to the red carpet on Friday (May 2) for the People and Time Magazine’s White House Correspondents’ Association cocktail party at the Astor Terrace of the St. Regis Hotel in Washington D.C.

The actress—and People Magazine’s World’s Most Beautiful woman—shone as brightly as always in an ivory Bibhu Mohapatra Fall 2014 full-skirted, cocktail frock, festooned with a bar code-like pattern of metallic gold and silver embellishment.

Wrapped into a structured V at the waist, the dress didn’t suffer without the black belt seen on the runway. In fact, I didn’t miss it at all.

The styling also worked well here, what with the complementary ivory Swarovski clutch, along with glittering silver Christian Louboutin pumps and the restrained sparkle of Fred Leighton jewels.

I cannot wait to see what she wears tonight at the 100th annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.
