Who Wore Valentino Better Lena Dunham or Miley Cyrus

Lena Dunham didn’t score any style points when she wore this Valentino jumpsuit to the ‘Girls’ Season 2 premiere back in January.

The main complaints were about the overall poor fit.

Miley Cyrus didn’t have any fit issues when she wore the same jumpsuit to the Maxim Hot 100 party last month; however, she did have a serious makeup malfunction.

I will have to forgive Miley’s makeup considering the fit is perfect and the rest of her styling infinitely more interesting compared to Lena.

‘Girls’ star Lena Dunham attended the 2013 Met Gala in New York City with designer Erdem Moralioglu by her side.

For the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s fashion party of the year, she covered up in a custom Erdem gown that was flattering but verging on more forgettable territory—especially on the radically themed red carpet of this year’s event.

With the high bib neckline and the frills, what immediately came to mind was ‘prairie-girl-punk.’

On this occasion, Lena’s tattoos work quite well with the rebel theme, while a smokey eye and nude lippie, along with a slicked-back bob finished the look.

She’s sometimes been a red-carpet enigma, puzzling us with her sartorial statements. How do you think she fares at the Met?

Lena Dunham In Theyskens’ Theory - 2013 Actors Fund Gala

Lena Dunham was one of the speakers at the 2013 Actors Fund Gala held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel on Monday in New York City.

We haven’t been the biggest champions of her style, but on this occasion I have to say she is much improved from her last look – but let’s face it, a bin liner would’ve been an improvement on the last look.

Wearing a custom-made Theyskens’ Theory sleeveless dress embroidered with a graphic houndstooth motif with glass beads and a sheer panel, the style is much more flattering and infinitely more stylish than her other looks – even from this obscure angle.

Could she have turned a style corner? We will have to wait and see.

Lena Dunham In Saint Laurent - 2013 Time 100 Gala

Lena Dunham attended the 2013 Time 100 Gala held at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City yesterday evening.

The Saint Laurent Fall 2013 collection wasn’t very well received. You even hated Kate Moss in a look from this collection, so I don’t have high hopes of you loving this look worn by Lena.

Lena is very talented, but when it comes to red carpet dressing we are usually baffled by her choices; this is one of those many occasions.

The gold shimmering tutu dress with a plunging neckline and silver spiked waistband is something I would expect Sarah Hyland or Ariel Winter to wear. Lena is too mature for this style of dress, plus the dress is very unflattering.

I am baffled that this continues to be her go-to look.

Her black Saint Laurent T-bar heels are the only thing I actually like about his look.

Lena-Dunham-In-Reed-Krakoff-65th-Annual-Writers-Guild-East-Coast-Awards copy

Lena Dunham attended the 65th annual Writers’ Guild East Coast Awards at the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City on Sunday evening.

The ‘Girls’ actress, writer and director wore a Reed Krakoff Pre-Fall 2013 look on this occasion.

Last time out, it was suggested by some that Lena should cover up her tattoos, but she doesn’t appear to be taking your advice, donning a strapless black-and-white tejus-lizard jacquard bustier dress with asymmetrical pleats.

It has also been said that she doesn’t seem that interested in fashion, which may be the case but I feel like she made a real effort here.

Hair and makeup is much improved, and the dress is not only flattering but it is also thankfully not one of those shiny satin dresses she has been favouring for her last few outings.

Smoky eyes, studded earrings and Reed Krakoff black strappy sandals completed her look.

Much improved or more of the same?

Lena Dunham In Thakoon - 2013 DGA Awards‘Girls’ millennial director/actress Lena Dunham is definitely having her time in the popularity spotlight; she walked another red carpet and picked up another trophy at last night’s 2013 Directors Guild of America Awards, hosted at The Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland in Los Angeles, California.

I just wish she was dressing better for the occasion.

Although she wore a custom Thakoon, the fit of the strapless satin creation was unkempt and daresay sloppy. And the sash-like appendage in the back was just strange.

While it was nice to see Lena in a bright hue and the frock embraced spring’s obsession with color blocking, the cloying magenta and red hues clashed.

Or maybe I was just too blinded by the poor fit, or those distracting tattoos, or even the nude Jimmy Choo ‘Crown’ peep-toes that were a boring-at-best afterthought.

Perhaps some jewelry may have helped make this a better equation.

You can buy Lena’s Jimmy Choo ‘Crown’ peep-toes from Jimmy Choo US, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks.com.

2013 AFI Awards

Here are the rest of the attendees who took to the red carpet on Friday afternoon at the Four Seasons Los Angeles in Beverly Hills, California for the 2013 AFI Awards.

Kiernan Shipka: Why Elle Fanning won Best Dressed Teen 2012 over Kiernan I will never quite understand, as the ‘Mad Man’ actress’ style prowess and infinitely better shoe closet leaves Fanning in the shade for me. On this occasion she wore an uber cute yellow Valentino frock with satin black trims paired with simple black Rupert Sanderson ankle-strap sandals. Light makeup and a simple bun complete her fresh, youthful look.

Lena Dunham: There was much debate over Lena’s previous look with some saying that she’s “just-not-that-into-fashion” and others arguing that she needs to play that game. Well it looked like she upped her game at this event wearing a figure flattering Zac Posen grape cape-sleeve dress with a flared skirt. Silver glitter Charlotte Olympia ‘Kitty’ flats and a berry lip colour to complement her dress completed her look.

Sally Field: The actress selected a grey-and-white Stella McCartney short sleeve dress with a white lace overlay which we’ve also seen on Michelle Dockery. Grey pearls and grey pumps perfect her day time chic look.
