2009 Emirates Melbourne Cup Day

Like Ascot in the UK the Melbourne Cup Day is more about hats and fashion than horse-racing - from a woman’s point of view of course.

Kate Waterhouse oozed sophistication wearing a Chloé bow-detailed asymmetric silk blouse, which she paired with a high waisted white skirt and nude heels.

Normally I really hate a necklace worn with an asymmetrical top, but I’m surprised that it doesn’t bother me here.

Her hat perfects this stunning look.

I believe Jennifer Hawkins is wearing a stunning head-piece, but unfortunately I can barely make it out from the artwork behind her.

Laura Dundovic was my second favourite going for a black and beige colour co-ordinated look.

Model Sophie Monk opted for a sexier leopard print look.

I guess models can write their own fashion rule books, but it doesn’t feel quite right at this event.

More stunning hats.

Sonia Kruger looks stunning, I’m so jealous of her toned legs.

I love the fuschia colour of her look and her hat which looks like something a chic air stewardess would wear in the 70s.

I didn’t like anything about Olivia Newton-John’s look.  I may have like it had she not gone overboard with the boots and the lace gloves.

Zara Phillips’ Thread Social dress is unflattering on her from every angle.

Her Philip Treacy hat is nice though.

Designer Leona Edmiston had some extra pieces of tulle left over from designing her hat, so she incorporated the left-overs into her dress.

2009 AAMI Victoria Derby Day

Lara Bingle made sure all eyes were on her by wearing a large head-piece.

I’m sure it was mission accomplished, but every one was no doubt looking at her because of her deep plunging LBD than her hat.

Those of us outside Australia still don’t really know Lara, but the model is set to skate to international fame with news she will head to London in March for the UK series of “Torvill and Dean: Skating on Ice”.

Megan Gale’s black and white dress is so chic it hurts.

Loves it.

Rihanna opted for an edgy Louis Vuitton ensemble when she attended the “3rd Annual DKMS Gala” back in May.

The look included a raspberry tulip skirt, a metallic top, chunky Daisy choker, black knee-high Cancan boots, a red clutch and a spiky ring.

As you can see from the runway picture below she copied the whole look.

Australian model Lara Bingle yesterday arrived at the first anniversary party of the “Louis Vuitton Collins Street” in Melbourne, Australia.

She didn’t work the head-to-toe runway look, instead she added green suede pumps and a black Louis Vuitton Minaudiere clutch.

Firstly, I don’t like Lara choice of shoes. They are a bit safe for such a look.

Secondly, Lara is wearing such an interesting bold metallic top so I would have preferred her to pull her hair back to show it off.

Thirdly, this look suits Rihanna’s edgier style better, so she wins for me.

October 12th, 2009

It’s been a while since I featured Australian model Lara Bingle on my blog, but one thing hasn’t changed in that time, her love for Prada.

Earlier today Lara and her cricketer fiancé Michael Clarke unveiled a poster for their first joint campaign as the faces of Aussie energy drink ‘Synergy’.

Forget Brand Beckham, this is Brand Bingle as the Australian couple try to emulate the British couple with a sexy ad campaign.

The gorgeous model wore a Prada Resort 2010 dress with a nude cowl backed top and a baby blue and coral striped skirt.

I love the dress, but we get a thud at the feet.

Once again a perfectly cute look is ruined by the wrong shoes.

This candy coloured dress deserved better than grey suede Louboutin’s.

She normally does head-to-toe runway, so I’m really surprised she didn’t wear the runway heels.

The X Factor is due to start on Saturday in the UK, and I can barely contain my excitement.

We’ll be watching what has been taped weeks in advance, so this gives the judges some time out before the drama of the live shows in the Autumn.

X Factor judge Dannii Minogue is back at home in Australia, and she was sitting front row at this show wearing strapless corseted Victoria Beckham Fall 2009 dress with an organza bodice overlay and sequin hip panel.

Danni wore her dress with black clutch and Christian Louboutin pigalle heels.

The dress looks good on Dannii, but it would’ve been better had she shortened it.

No matter what we say about Victoria’s style, it seems that celebs just can’t get enough of VB threads that the moment.

Victoria Beckham and Selita Ebanks have both already worn this dress.

Former Miss Universe, Jennifer Hawkins is currently the very pretty face of “Myer”.

She arrived on the red carpet wearing a plunging black dress, with a bow detail on the waist and crystal details on the shoulders.  Those details remind me of the Givenchy Spring 2009 collection.

Black peep-toes complete the look.

Lara Bingle was ‘glowing’ in a pale pink long sleeve Prada dress which has a the back cut-out.

Her hair was slight wild and messy and her make-up kept light.

YSL white strappy sandals complete the look.

“L.A. Candy” Book Signing, LA

Returning to her natural roots Lauren Conrad signed copies of her book “L.A. Candy” By Lauren Conrad for fans at the Grove yesterday.

Sporting a familiar hairstyle the former ‘Hills’ star wore a satin black mini-skirt, black Louboutin’s and a tie dyed batwing sleeved blouse.

It is me or does Lauren seem sincerely happy?  I guess not having to film the Hills is a welcome relief for her.

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen Premiere, Sydney

Isabel Lucas split from her co-stars to promote “Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen” in Australia this week.

Whilst Megan Fox was dazzling the crowd in a bright fuschia pink Armani Privé dress, the Australian actress opted for a black embroidered Marchesa Fall 2009 jumpsuit.

Eh??? Jumpsuit I hear you say. Surprisingly this is a jumpsuit or a playsuit as I like to call the short versions.

On Isabel it’s hard to appreciate the embroidered detail because her playsuit has a black lining the runway version doesn’t have.

Tights, Jimmy Choo Tahiti glitter peep-toe pumps and a black headband completed the look.

Headbands will never been the same after Paris Hilton overused them during Cannes Film Festival.

‘Coco Avant Chanel’ Australian Premiere

Lara Bingle opted for one piece from the Chanel Fall 2009 collection to attend this premiere.

Her black bouclé jacket had white and black ruffled cuff detail, but thankfully not the white collar.

I don’t think the collar would have worked with her casual look of jeans and YSL ankle boots.

Carol’s Daughter Hand And Foot Spa, New York

Rihanna attended this opening wearing a very smart ensemble.

She teamed a sexy figure hugging slate grey A.L.C Twisty dress with a tailored Preen Hawk wool blazer and cute polka dot peep-toe heels.

It’s such a shame her wild hair is such a distraction from all that’s good about this look.

“Late Show With David Letterman”, New York

Jada Pinkett-Smith looked outstanding wearing a figure-hugging khaki Dolce & Gabbana strapless bustier dress with metallic skyscraper heels.

Jada’s body looks amazing and this dress full appreciates her stunning figure.

It looks like she has eased up on the weights which I’m very thankful for.

Celebration Dinner Honoring 2009 Los Angeles Film Festival Keyote Films, LA

Here’s another Dolce & Gabbana dress, this time it black and worn by Scarlett Johansson.

I love the ruched detail which runs down the front of her fitted dress and the cute puffy shoulders.

Gold satin peep toe pumps complete the look.

Hopefully we’ll see her wearing more colourful dresses in the future.

“Bruno” Paris Premiere

For some reason Isla Fisher’s reminds me of a mermaid in her strapless sea-green embellished Julien McDonald dress.

I think this is one of her worst ever red carpet looks.

The dress is looks like something you could pick up in a market plus her hair and make-up are just awful. Hugely disappointed in her.

May 20th, 2009

It’s been a while since a featured an Australian event, and I’m happy to see our favourite Aussie girls are on top form, despite the tights, but I believe it’s their winter time at the moment.

At first glance I thought Delta Goodrem’s embellished mini dress was Balmain, but it’s actually from the Collette Dinnigan Spring 2009 collection.

Her look is completed with YSL Trib Two boots, and a black clutch.

Singer Jessica Mauboy braved the weather, and showed off her pins wearing a studded and embellished Collette Dinnigan Spring 2009 mini, with a black jacket from Dinnigan’s Fall 2008 collection, which has Sergeant Pepper detailing.

Erika Heynatz opted out of being a ‘Dinnigan darling’, and instead wore a Louis Vuitton Spring 2009 ensemble, sans the Spicy heels.

The skirt from this look is incredibly short, so the tights are not a surprise.

She completes her look with Louboutin ankle boots.

Lara Bingle wore a dove grey long dress, with very interesting swirls, plus matching YSL patent heels.

Rosemount Australian Fashion Week Spring 2009/10 - Camilla & Marc show

Australian Fashion Week has kicked off, so I hope that means we’ll see plenty of Lara Bingle during the week.

The gorgeous model arrived wearing a Louis Vuitton Spring 2009 ultra mini maroon cowl-neck dress, with purple puffy sleeves.

Her look was complete with - what I predict will be she shoes of the year - the Louis Vuitton Spicy heels.

Her dress is incredibly short, so the tights can be forgiven, but it doesn’t mean I like them.

“The Philanthropist” Broadway Opening Night, New York

Sarah Jessica Parker ivory dress, with an pink carnation is very cute, but I’m finding it hard to get excited about it.

“The Good Guy” Premiere, Tribeca Film Festival

Alexis Bledel is wearing a Cushnie et Ochs spring 2009 black dress, with cut-outs details.

It’s a very interesting choice of dress. I’m particularly fascinated by the shoulder pads on the sleeveless dress.

Independent Filmmaker Project, New York

We haven’t seen Katie Holmes on the red carpet much recently.

Here she wears a black satin Alexander McQueen halter top, with matching black pants. It’s quite classic, and appropriate for her event.

She completes her look with Givenchy lace-up heels, and a Hermes Medor clutch.

Thankfully Sanaa Lathan was there to add a lot of colour to this event, with her bright red dress.

I’m loving the multiple string of pearls.

Her look is complete with silver accessories.

Hannah Montana: The Movie Berlin Premiere

Miley Cyrus had yet another premiere to attend this weekend. This time she wore a dove grey Temperley London dress.

The dress was cute, not too tight, not too short, not too revealing, and age appropriate, so hopefully we can all agree - for once -that this is a great look for Miley.

Out & About, New York

The world has been going crazy about Kim Kardashian new lighter ‘do.

I say “please”, it’s so obvious the girl is wearing a honey coloured weave.

The volume of her hair is a dead giveaway, plus the texture.

As she lapped up the attention from the paparazzi, she was spotted out in New York wearing a black Helmut Lang V-neck twill jumpsuit, with Giuseppe Zanotti gladiator boots.

I don’t know about you, but this look scares me. I hope she takes out the weave soon.
