Red Carpet Fashion Awards

I was invited to interview the Kardashian sisters (two of the three as Khloe was on X Factor hosting duties), who launched their Kardashian Kollection for Dorothy Perkins yesterday.

Why did I go? Kuriosity of Kourse.

I thought it would be a great opportunity to meet the girls, see what they are all about, and dispel the rumours and preconceived ideas as I went in with a very open mind and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.

The interview, which I shared with Simon from The Very Simon G and Ella from Coco’s Tea Party, was very much like friends sitting around talking fashion – much like the discussions we have every day on this blog.

They were very relaxed, and surprisingly knowledgeable about the Kardashian Kollection line, which proved that they are doing more than just putting their name to something.

On why they chose Dorothy Perkins to launch their Kardashian Kollection:

Kim: The price point works for our fan base. It’s very successful in the US (Sears) and when we wanted to evolve we said what brand was respected, what brand represented us, who would really take our designs and make this a worldwide brand and that was Dorothy Perkins… we’re launching today in Malaysia, Singapore and later in the month in Israel and all these other countries… like 15 countries, so we met with Sir Philip Green and we just thought that Dorothy Perkins was the perfect location for us.

On their role for the Kardashian Kollection:

Kourtney: We are the designers…. we are such perfectionists.

Kim: I would say we are creative directors too, cause I have a big hand in… we all kinda have different roles: I love working on the ad campaigns; Kourtney loves finding the fabrics and the prints.

Kourtney: We are so detailed that every little thing… sometimes I wish I could like, someone else can do that, but we are such perfectionists. It’s so fun to be hands on. We take such pride in our line and we want it to be representative of us in the right way and we want to wear every piece and be so proud of it and we couldn’t not be involved in every step. You can tell when someone slaps their name on something. We are involved from the inspiration right through and it’s so much fun.

As Viola Davis is the unofficial brand ambassador for Raoul, she was the first to wear this ‘Penelope’ gown to the 3rd annual Governors Awards dinner in LA back in November.

The Oscar nominee teamed her maxi dress with a gold neckline with a simple cuff and a gold Jimmy Choo clutch.

At Elton John’s annual AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party last month, Kourtney Kardashian showed off her burgeoning baby bump in the same gown with gold-and-diamond Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

I’m not a fan of Kourtney’s yellow gold jewels, so Viola wins for me.

Head-to-toe denim looks saw a revival appearing on Celine, Stella McCartney and Derek Lam’s Spring 2011 runways.

Ellen Pompeo bravely took on this difficult trend by donning an Étoile Isabel Marant faded denim jumpsuit back in February whilst she was spotted leaving a hair salon in LA.

The Grey’s Anatomy actress went for a 70’s vibe with this look by adding her tan Chloe ‘Marcie’ leather bag and aviator sunglasses.

Leaving the jumpsuit unzipped, Ellen revealed a stone-coloured tank top.

I wish she would’ve worn better shoes and certainly picked a colour other than black.

Kourtney Kardashian, the most experimental of the Kardashian sisters, wore the same jumpsuit on a trip to the Dash store in Calabasas this weekend.

Kourtney kept her jumpsuit zipped up opting to pair hers with beige heels.

The rest of her look was kept fairly minimal, with a simple gold bracelet and a leopard print clutch as her only accessories. The reality star took the opposite approach to Ellen and let do the jumpsuit do most of the talking.

My vote is definitely going to Kourtney who has a more carefree vibe plus she doesn’t look like she’s headed to a building site like Ellen.

I don’t think I’ve made any secrets about the fact that I’m not a fan of the Kardashian Klan, but I they did all look pretty fabulous at Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom’s Fragrance Launch for “Unbreakable” last night at The Redbury in LA.

Whilst I’m rolling my eyes at the fact that Khloe and Lamar have a fragrance to launch, I will keep this about fashion.

Kim opted to wear Salma Hayek’s Alexander McQueen Resort 2011 top with gold embroidered shoulder details.

Black fitted pants, black pumps and a VBH clutch completed her look.

I’m glad she wore her hair back with this look.

Khloe also when for all black, but she added a pop of colour via her yellow Balenciaga envelope clutch.

The star of the night opted for a Gucci black tuxedo jumpsuit from the Spring 2011 collection, which has a rope belt tied to the waist with tassels at end.

The look is complete with wavy locks and two tone Christian Louboutin David Delfin suede and leather pumps.

The most naturally stylish one of the group Kourtney, wore a T Bags kaftan.

She accessorized with a fringed H&M necklace and a tan Proenza Schouler PS1 clutch.

Which was your favourite?

Whilst I’m loving Kourtney, I’ve gotta go with Khloe in Gucci on this occasion.

It’s so refreshing not to see her trying to out dress Kim in the shortest tightest dress she could find.

Here are the rest of the looks from the 2011 People’s Choice Awards.

AnnaLynne McCord stood out in a bright blue backless YSL dress which she paired with gold Louboutin’s.

Niki Taylor was a tad too formal at this event in a black Donna Karan gown.

Malin Akerman wore a playful J.Mendel white dress which she livened up with ruby red heels and a matching clutch.

Lucy Hale was my least favourite at this event wearing a mustard satin Ronald Abdala cap sleeve dress, which she paired with Rene Cavollia heels and Amrapali jewels.

Kendall Jenner wore a cute one-sleeve Bebe dress with hideous black brogues.

Maggie Q opted for a fashion-forward Herve Leger Fall 2010 dress with heavy black pumps.

Kourtney Kardashian wore a strapless Gert-Johan Coetzee dress. She accessorized with a Swarovski clutch and tan Louboutin’s.

Khloe Kardashian opted for a well worn Alexander McQueen strapless silk-chiffon gown which is back this season in grey.

We’ve seen this dress in green on Jessica Alba and Mary J Blige.

Amrapali earrings and a Judith Leiber clutch completed her look along with a fresh new red colour hair for 2011.

This is a great example of how one piece can be worn so very differently.

Whitney Port and Kourtney Kardashian both wore a Rebecca Minkoff amber leather pleated skirt in very different ways.

Whitney opted for a more relaxed downtown look by adding a Rebecca Minkoff Alicia top, black brogues and a pink Chanel bag whilst out running errands in New York City.

Kourtney opted for an uptown look to complement boyfriend Scott who was wearing a 3 piece suit.

Her look included a Ralph Lauren white shirt, a Chanel belt, Alexander McQueen shoes and her favourite Christian Louboutin sweet charity bag.

I love Kourtney’s look, but I wish she hadn’t steamed out the pleats.

Whitney wins as her look feels more effortless and she’s managed to keep the pleats in her skirt.
