Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Towards the latter part of the year, Katy Perry had somewhat of a style transformation.

Gone were the blue, purple and green wigs plus the quirky red carpet attire for a sleeker, sophisticated, more consistent red carpet look.

In the past she would go from wearing an princessy Elie Saab Couture gown to a slime-inspired frock in the space of a few appearances, but at it feels like the singer has shelved those attention seeking, eccentric red carpet looks for now.

I am very interested to see if this phase continues in 2013.

It’s been a while since we saw quirky Katy Perry on the red carpet; lately it has been glamour all the way.

She attended a celebration of Carole King and her music to benefit Paul Newman’s The Painted Turtle Camp at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California yesterday evening.

The singer wore a very familiar YSL Edition Soir gown.

Familiar not so much in colour, but in style. Just this year alone, both Kylie Minogue and Emmy Rossum have worn this gown.

The main difference between them and Katy is that Katy’s gown has embellished details on the bodice which she has offset with a decorative Amrapali necklace, which probably wasn’t needed but does enhance the overall look.

Wavy raven tresses and gold ankle-strap Giuseppe Zanotti pumps completed her look.

Do you love the new Katy Perry, or are you longing for the quirky Katy to return?

Katy Perry had quite a weekend.

Following her honour of being named at Billboard’s ‘Women of the Year’, she was also honoured at The Trevor Project’s 2012 ‘Trevor Live’ event, held at the Hollywood Palladium in California on Sunday evening.

The singer wore a Marchesa Resort 2013 gown.

Her delicate floor-length lace gown, featuring all-over beading, embroidery and full-length illusion sleeves, was styled with a Lena Erziak ‘Adam’ salmon apple-shaped bag with a golden leaf and matching gold chain plus a gold pendant necklace.

Katy tried to channel an earthy boho vibe by adding a braided accent to her luscious raven locks.

This gown is a considerable improvement on her last look, yet I’m not screaming for this to be up for BDOTW.

Billboard ‘Woman of the Year’ honoree Katy Perry attended the annual event held at Capitale in New York City on Friday afternoon.

The singer went all-American with a ruffled persimmon Oscar de la Renta Resort 2013 dress.

Despite an ‘A’ for effort, Katy couldn’t create fireworks with this over-accessorized attempt at uptown elegance, made all the more matronly with her stiff-looking news anchor coiffe.

Had Katy loosened the bun, lost the belt, and swapped the bedazzled Oscar de la Renta peep-toe pumps for a pair of sexy strappy sandals, she could’ve easily transformed this look from dowdy to dreamy.

Katy Perry looked stunning on the red carpet at the UNICEF Snowflake Ball held at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City yesterday evening.

Naeem Khan is one of my favourite designers and this breath-taking gown is a classic example of why that is the case.

Katy oozed glamour with a touch of drama, wearing a navy column gown enriched with floral beaded details. I think many would’ve opted to wear this look sans cape, but the cape is what makes this look so special.

Her look is further enhanced with Lorraine Schwartz 45-carat blue sapphire and diamond earrings and tattoo cuff with black sapphires and white and black diamonds.

Sleek straight hair worn behind her ears in a centre parting and a light-blue clutch completed her BDOTW-worthy look.
