Michelle Williams In Saint Laurent – 2013 Met Gala

Michelle Williams attempted to vamp up her style for the punk themed 2013 Met Gala on Monday evening in New York City.

I say attempt because even with the vampy makeup and punk rock hairdo, I still see sweet innocent Michelle underneath.

Keeping to her trademark classic style, she donned a black strapless Saint Laurent gown with a high-low hemline, with black T-strap Saint Laurent pumps giving the look a ladylike finish.

Fred Leighton jewels, which included a diamond tiara, and an Olympia Le-Tan book clutch for a quirky finish completed her look.

Should Michelle have pushed the punk element further? A pair of studded cuffs or studded Giuseppe Zanotti pumps perhaps?

Ashley Olsen In vintage Dior & Mary-Kate Olsen In vintage Chanel – 2013 Met Gala

Don’t be surprised that the Olsen twins opted to go vintage and oversized at the 2013 Met Gala on Monday evening; after all, this is their red carpet M.O.

Ashley Olsen: The designer’s beaded orange Dior Couture dress with a sheer overlay is a beautiful design, but for some reason made me think of one of Andre Leon Tally’s capes.

Mary-Kate Olsen: This look was my least favourite of the two; her Chanel beaded, drop-waist black dress would’ve been so much better without the fur-trimmed robe.

Which Olsen look works better for you?

Ashley? Mary-Kate? Or none-of-the-above?

One wonders if the words; belt, or waist-nipping mean anything to these girls.

Elizabeth Banks In Atelier Versace – 2013 Met Gala

With Elizabeth Banks confirmed to wear Brian Atwood footwear, there was no chance of her wearing a gown to the 2013 Met Gala, which was held in New York City on Monday evening.

The ‘Hunger Games’ actress donned a gold Atelier Versace gold chainmail jacket from the Spring 2013 collection, which hits all the right fashion notes for the theme of this event.

With black piping on her frock, the look was perfectly accessorized with a gold studded black Atwood minaudiére, and sexy Brian Atwood leather fringed ‘Elizabeth’ sandals with gold metal studs.

Gold jewels, an updo and cat-eyes completed her stylish uber sexy look.

Lena Dunham In Erdem – 2013 Met Gala

‘Girls’ star Lena Dunham attended the 2013 Met Gala in New York City with designer Erdem Moralioglu by her side.

For the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s fashion party of the year, she covered up in a custom Erdem gown that was flattering but verging on more forgettable territory—especially on the radically themed red carpet of this year’s event.

With the high bib neckline and the frills, what immediately came to mind was ‘prairie-girl-punk.’

On this occasion, Lena’s tattoos work quite well with the rebel theme, while a smokey eye and nude lippie, along with a slicked-back bob finished the look.

She’s sometimes been a red-carpet enigma, puzzling us with her sartorial statements. How do you think she fares at the Met?

Julianne Moore In Balenciaga – 2013 Met Gala

Never one to blend in, Julianne Moore stood out in a forest green frock in a sea of black and pink at Monday’s Met Gala in New York.

Draped in Balenciaga, Julianne’s dress was simplistic and artistic with origami fold details along the bust and waist.

Paired with monochromatic earrings by Irene Neuwirth and heels, the actress looked fashion forward in the rich colour.

One of my favourite parts to the entire look? Julianne’s fun and totally on-theme hair. Her red strands teased into a faux hawk with slicked back sides was as chic as it was punk.

A major red carpet thumbs up for Julianne.

Claire Danes In Oscar de la Renta – 2013 Met Gala

Claire Danes glittered at the 2013 Met Gala in New York, celebrating The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’ exhibit.

From a distance, her Oscar de la Renta black tulle gown, paired with a clutch and shoes from the designer, definitely echoed more ‘couture’ rather than chaotic inspiration.

But, get closer and you’ll see the gunmetal chain-mail embroidery that subtly belies a certain rebellious edge.

That said, this ensemble needed a different, punk-y hairstyle. Some teased and spiked strands to go with Claire’s smoked-out eyes and black-lacquered nails could have worked magic.
