Oscars 2014 & Vanity Fair Party Menswear Red Carpet Roundup

Oscars menThe Oscars 2014 on Sunday (March 2), and the ensuing soirees, were a fashion feast for the senses, with high-wattage gowns swishing at every glam turn. But the men provided plenty of eye candy, as well, as they suited up in their sartorial best for the stylish super-event at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California followed by the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

Matthew McConaughey: The ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ Best Actor winner not only delivered a compelling acceptance speech, he also was convincingly decked out in a Dolce & Gabbana suit, Louboutin shoes and Chopard cufflinks. Always surprising us with his wild-card jackets, this one was a crispy ivory number, which he handsomely sported with a black vest, white button-down, black trousers and bowtie.

Bradley Cooper: Looking ever so dapper in a black Tom Ford tuxedo, paired with a black bow tie and Chopard cufflinks, the ‘American Hustle’ star and Best Supporting Actor nominee wore a side of handsome scruff with his classic ensemble

Pharrell Williams: Well, he wasn’t wearing the colossal hat, but the ‘Happy’ singer and nominee still turned heads with his cutoffs. The custom head-to-toe Lanvin look featured a black wool shawl-collar, one-button tuxedo with matching shorts, a white tuxedo shirt with ivory pearl buttons, a black satin bowtie and dark gray hand-polished calfskin derbies (sans socks, natch).  Yay or nay?

Film Independent Spirit Awards 2014 Menswear Roundup

Film Independent Spirit Awards 2014 Menswear Roundup 1With a myriad of menswear looks on the blue carpet, the guys mostly nixed the standard black suit in favour of more colourful options at the 2014 Film Independent Spirit Awards at Santa Monica Beach in Santa Monica, California yesterday (March 1). Not that I was complaining.

Matthew McConaughey: Taking his flashy jackets to another level, the ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ actor and Best Male Lead winner wore an allover metallic bronze three-piece suite by Dolce & Gabbana. Skipping the tie, an unbuttoned black button-down shirt had nothing on those attention-grabbing, cobalt-blue Tod’s shoes. Do you like the razzle-dazzle here?

Jared Leto: Like Matthew, Jared picked up a win for his work in ‘Dallas Buyers Club.’ The actor-musician was dressed in his standard rocker-grunge edge wearing separates including a black leather biker Balmian Homme jacket and black skinny jeans. Of course, a shirt was tied around his waist—this time, a red plaid Saint Laurent one—and he topped off the look with a black-and-white striped scarf and black Giuseppe Zanotti combat boots.

Michael B Jordan: The always-sharp dresser didn’t disappoint in his cream-coloured Dolce & Gabbana suit, paired with a quirky printed button-down shirt, a black pocket square, black brogues and a rose-gold Piaget watch. The ‘Fruitvale Station’ actor always manages to combine sartorial polish with a punch of attitude.

Best Dressed Of The Week - Lea Seydoux In Prada & Jared Leto In Saint Laurent

Lea Seydoux has been having an amazing run, which has gone up a gear during awards season.

She stunned us all wearing this spectacular Prada gown during Berlin Film Festival, continuing to prove that maybe Miuccia can make a great red-carpet-worthy gown.

Jared Leto took home the prize for the fellas, looking cool and sexy wearing a Saint Laurent look featuring a sparkling gold jacket.

Jared Leto In Lanvin – The Hollywood Reporter’s Nominee Party

Jared Leto In Lanvin - The Hollywood Reporter's Nominee Party

Jared Leto attended The Hollywood Reporter’s Nominee Party held at Spago on Monday (February 10) in Beverly Hills, California.

Giving us snazzy jacket number 2 in a row, the ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ actor wore a Lanvin Pre-Fall 2013 silver shiny technical silk-blend one-button tuxedo jacket emphasised with a black grosgrain shawl collar and styled with a black open shirt and matching trousers.

Looking as sharp as ever, I’m hoping his black fedora is not a sign that Jared will graduate to more ridiculous styles of headwear, as sported by Pharrell Williams recently.

Zadig & Voltaire ‘Joe’ boots completed his look.

Jared Leto In Saint Laurent - 86th Academy Awards Nominees Luncheon

Jared Leto attended the 86th Academy Awards Nominees Luncheon held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Monday (February 10) in Beverly Hills, California.

The handsome actor wore a mostly black Saint Laurent look featuring a stand-out gold lame jacket.

It looks as if he and his ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ co-star Matthew McConaughey share a love for snazzy jackets. I wonder who inspired whom?
Jared’s styling deserves some extra credit as he added a pink pocket square (quite an usual choice), striped socks and black crystal Louis Leeman loafers.

Was the touch of pink pushing things too far?

29th Santa Barbara International Film Festival Menswear Roundup

29th Santa Barbara International Film Festival Menswear Roundup

Michael B. Jordan and Jared Leto joined Brie Larson at the 29th Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where they were honoured with the Virtuosos Award at an event held at the Arlington Theatre on Tuesday (February 4) in Santa Barbara, California.

Michael B. Jordan: Embracing a more colourful stance when it comes to red carpet dressing, the actor donned a vivid-blue Vivienne Westwood Man suit styled with a brown shirt, black tie, black Christian Louboutin flats and his Piaget timepiece. The brown shirt took a while to grow on me, but overall this is yet another standout look from the dapper actor, who continues to keep menswear varied and interesting; however, I have a feeling it might not be all too well received by some.

Jared Leto: The actor couldn’t be more opposite, wearing a laidback all-black look consisting of leather pants, a black overcoat, black shirt and Zadig & Voltaire ‘Joe’ boots.

Do you prefer Michael’s spritely approach, or Jared’s cool all-black chilled look?
