Weekend Red Carpet Roundup

weekend roundup

The weekend brought with it a garden variety of ensembles from Los Angeles to London, and more. Here, a glance at the looks and the starlets who wore them.

Emma Roberts: Joining Diane Kruger and Freida Pinto, the actress was at the 8th annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic at Liberty State Park on Saturday (May 30) in Jersey City, New Jersey. She styled her sunny yellow Christine Alcalay Spring 2015 dress with Michael Kors Benji straw wedge sandals, an M2malletier Mini Amor Fati leopard pony bag, and Preen by Thornton Bregazzi Chantilly sunglasses, all topped off with a braided ’do.

Elsa Pataky: Elsa was the picture of girly charm, as she joined Emily Blunt at the Audi Polo Challenge at Coworth Park on Sunday (May 31) in London, England. Her rose-printed Ulyana Sergeenko demi couture dress was adorable yet I would have loved to see it without the pink sweater. Casadei nude suede pumps assured her legs went on for days, with a Paula Cademartori clutch finishing the look.

Sophia Bush: The actress was at Glamour USA’s June ‘Success’ Issue dinner party at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, California on Friday (May 29). While her Vivienne Westwood Fall 2015 dress, worn with a Rauwolf clutch and Giuseppe Zanotti sandals, was rather elaborate with its heavy print and silhouette, she ensured the look stayed fresh with her hair and makeup on the barely-there side.

2015 Met Gala Roundup

"China: Through The Looking Glass" Costume Institute Benefit Gala - Arrivals

A flurry of even more bold names descended on red carpet of the ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’ 2015 Met Gala, hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 4), where their colourful variety of looks only contributed to this year’s fashion extravaganza.

Anna Wintour
: As the gala co-host, the ‘Vogue’ editor-in-chief dressed thematically (for her, anyway) in a Chanel Spring 2015 Couture gown featuring dimensional, all-over poppy embroidery, which had been lengthened from the runway’s original shorter version. She should have maintained her signature cap sleeve, as the flower petal statement shoulders translated as a bit cumbersome, despite their inherent artistry.

Bee Shaffer: Like her mother, Bee also found inspiration in flowers, opting for a mahogany blossom gown by Alexander McQueen. I much preferred this look to Anna’s, especially with the enchantment of the beautifully embroidered Chinese cranes that alighted down the back of the dress.

Janelle Monae In RVN – BET’s ‘Black Girls Rock!’

Janelle Monae In RVN - BET's 'Black Girls Rock!'

Janelle Monae attended the BET’s ‘Black Girls Rock!’ event at NJ Performing Arts Center on Saturday (March 28) in Newark, New Jersey.

Keeping up her favoured red, white and black colour palette, this look sees her ditched the mannish suits for a two-piece RVN look which depicts bold femininity.

As much as Janelle portrays a directional attitude, with edgy pieces accessorizing her outfit, one can’t help but be charmed by this look.

Janelle Monae In Emporio Armani – 2015 BRIT Awards

Janelle Monae In Emporio Armani - 2015 BRIT Awards

Janelle Monae attended the 2015 BRIT Awards held at the O2 Arena on Wednesday (February 25) in London, England.

The singer was in customary black and white, wearing a detailed velvet suit by Emporio Armani.

As I’ve said before, when it comes to her look I love that her suiting options, despite the theme, differ greatly; however, the wheels fall off that statement when you consider the Milner Gladys hat.

Having worn it a few times before, it is this accessory that gives her look a feeling of déjà vu/groundhog day. It’s like Pharrell Williams and his Vivienne Westwood hat – it’s so distinctive that it becomes all you see.

Janelle Monae In Moschino & Dsquared² – Roc Nation Pre-GRAMMY Brunch & Pre-Grammy Gala

Janelle Monae In Moschino & Dsquared² - Roc Nation Pre-GRAMMY Brunch & Pre-Grammy Gala

Janelle Monae attended both the Roc Nation Pre-GRAMMY Brunch and the Pre-GRAMMY Gala and Salute To Industry Icons honouring Martin Bandier on Saturday (February 7) in Los Angeles, California were the focus of both looks were her wide brim hats designed by Milner Gladys Tamez.

Roc Nation Pre-GRAMMY Brunch: The singer injected a rare touch of colour to her look via her red hat and red Swarovski clutch breaking up the monochrome-ness of her polka dot suit, which on this occasion was created by Moschino. I love that she took the dotage a bit further via her Rene Caovilla pumps. Doves by Doron Paloma ring, a Borgioni ring, and a Carrera y Carrera ring complete her look.

Pre-GRAMMY Gala: The second look was classic Monae. A sharp Dsquared2 suit with a bow tie was anything but classic. She always finds a way to make her staple feel fresh and new with unique twists. Guys could learn a thing or two from her. Styled with an Edie Parker clutch and silver strappy sandals, she once again completed her look with a red lip.

Janelle served up two great looks here, but I can’t help but fall for the fun nature of the first look.
