Janelle Monae In Marc Jacobs – 2018 Met Gala

Black and white has been another theme of the 2018 Met Gala, held on Monday (May 7) in New York City.

But, there would be no traditional nunnery style with Janelle Monae’s look.

Although she’s lately injected a rainbow of hues to her repertoire, the entertainer has been favouring the monochromatic palette for some time. So this Marc Jacobs tailored look was right within her standard style wheelhouse.

It was only the golden halo hat and headdress underneath that offered religious undertones for the night.

Janelle Monae In Christian Cowan – ‘Dirty Computer: An Emotion Picture by Janelle Monae’ LA Screening

It would seem that Janelle Monae has fully emerged out of the black-and-white fashion box, as she continued to embrace the colour wheel at a special screening of her ‘Dirty Computer: An Emotion Picture by Janelle Monae’ last Friday (April 27) in LA.

A look such as this Christian Cowan Spring 2018 design was made for the likes of Janelle.

Indeed, she is probably the only one who could make this hybrid, costume-y design look so seamless—cool, even—given it was the Jekyll and Hyde of suits. The split personality balanced a normal, solid side with the zany, magenta-zebra side.

Even if you did find the look a bit, well, over-the-top, you’d have to admit that she fully committed to its theatrical inspiration with her styling—from hat to multi-hued rings to pointy-white toe.

Plus, her beauty look was on point for the outfit with the hair spikes along with a striking purple-lined eye and hot-pink lip.

Janelle Monae In Alice + Olivia – Cardi B ‘Gold Album’ Release Party

Janelle Monae showed her support—in living colour—for Cardi B at the singer’s ‘Gold Album’ Release Party in New York City on Tuesday (April 10).

Seeing this rainbow-bright Alice + Olivia Spring 2018 look, and you’d never for once think this is the same girl who spent so many red carpets in black and white.

She’s clearly making up for lost time, as we’ve more and more witnessed her embracing a wider spectrum of shades.

I, for one, am loving every second of her new palette play.

And, I can think of no one besides Janelle who could make all those embellished sequin stripes and rows of tassels look so right—theatrically topping it all off with a hat, giant heart earrings, and a statement metallic eye.

Talk about a colour crush.

Janelle Monae In Christian Siriano – 2018 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Janelle Monae stunned at the Vanity Fair Oscar party on Sunday (March 4) in Beverly Hills, California.

As she continues to move away from her black-and-white days, she got the party started in a custom Christian Siriano suit in a bold red hue that offered an incredible fit as we’d expect from a custom design.

That said, the sharp tailoring was right within her signature style wheelhouse.

Yet, this look was no less striking for it. In fact, I’d go so far as to say this was one of the entertainer’s best, most captivating moments.

I really appreciated the long train emanating from the structured jacket for added festive, feminine flair to the suited-up appeal.

Janelle Monae In Andrew Gn & Bella Freud – Pre-Oscars Events

Janelle Monae took statement making looks to a new level while attending pre-Oscars events this week.

2018 Essence Black Women In Hollywood Oscars Luncheon: This Andrew Gn Fall 2017 dress is such a detailed and beautiful piece, that I’m happy Janelle didn’t over cook the look with an embellished clutch on this occasion. The over-sized tassel earring brings enough character to an already character-full look.

‘A Beautiful Future’ Campaign with Fem the Future: Pastel hues continue to make a reigning statement when it comes to suiting, which Janelle serves up in Bella Freud. The double-breasted blazer presents a chic expression, but makes an even more powerful monochromatic punch with the matching suiting trousers. I could’ve honestly done without the shirt and tie combo once again, but you can’t fault her commitment to each look she wears.
