Janelle Monae In Ashi Studio Couture – 2017 NAACP Image Awards

Janelle Monae made an attention-grabbing entrance at the 2017 NAACP Image Awards on Saturday (February 11) in Pasadena, California.

While she recently took a slight detour from her signature monochromatic looks with the introduction of a few kaleidoscope hues, I’m not missing any of them thanks to the sartorial power of this Ashi Studio Fall 2016 Couture ruffled masterwork styled with an Edie Parker clutch.

In fact, this all-black look was actually a fresh twist for the entertainer, who generally favours a black-and-white colour combination.

Possessing the sculptural lines for which the designer is known, the gown was emboldened even further with the slight glint of all-over tonal embellishment.

And, lest any of you were possibly left craving a pop of brightness, her candy-red lip likely will have satisfied.

8th Annual Black Women In Music Event

There were many other star who joined Erykah Badu on the black carpet for the 8th Annual Essence Black Women In Music Event on Thursday (February 9) in LA.

Yara Shahidi: The young actress stood out in her cobalt blue Greta Constantine dress which was amped up with magenta heels and an Anya Hindmarch ‘Crisp Packet’ clutch.

Janelle Monae: The singer/actress was caught clowning around in her Off-white c/o Virgil Abloh harlequin outfit styled with a fun Anya Hindmarch ‘Imperial Eyes’ clutch.

Serayah: The actress looked like she’d been dipped in liquid gold rocking a deconstructed Faith Connection shirt dress in the most alluring manner, which she styled with LeSilla boots.

Janelle Monae In Marc Jacobs – 8th Annual AAFCA Awards

Do not adjust your screens. This really is Janelle Monae incorporating colour into her red carpet look while attending the 8th Annual AAFCA Awards on Wednesday (February 8) in LA.

While this Marc Jacobs Resort 2017 dress veers slightly left from her black and white track, it does possess all the spirited fun we expect from the singer.

With her preferred red lip also swapped out for a fuchsia hue, could this be the soft launch for Janelle’s big colour reveal at the Oscars?

I would like think so.

Janelle Monae In Thom Browne – Virtuosos Tribute

Janelle Monáe might as well have been a glittering trophy herself at the Virtuosos Tribute, hosted during the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Saturday (February 4).

She used the occasion to step away from her signature black-and-white statements for a silver streak.

The Thom Browne Spring 2017 gown fused the surreal shine of a glitzy disco ball with a trompe l’oeil jacket and tie motif.

It’s a half-and-half, split personality dress, but Janelle never does anything halfway. So, she styled the dynamic look with a bold fuchsia lip and plenty more sparkle from jewelry and a smattering of hair jewels, too.

I was immediately reminded of a similar, black and white Thom Browne frock she wore to the Image Maker Awards. But, so novel was the colour of this silvery ensemble for her that it didn’t matter.

Janelle Monae In Carolina Herrera – 2017 Producers Guild Awards

Seeing Janelle Monae’s stratospheric rise in the past few months has been truly inspiring. And all done without comprising herself or her style.

At the 2017 Producers Guild Awards on Saturday (January 28) in Beverly Hills, California, she was of course decked out in black and white.

I love how the Carolina Herrera Spring 2017 design is fairly minimal, but the look is amplified with stripes for dramatic appeal.

Emerald jewels and a Roger Vivier clutch completed her look.

Wouldn’t be funny if she wears black and white throughout awards season, then wears a colour like pink or yellow to the Oscars?

Janelle Monae In Chanel – 2017 SAG Awards

Janelle Monae attended the 2017 SAG Awards in LA on Sunday (January 29).

A double nominee for her work in both Moonlight, and Hidden Figures, wore a sleeveless ankle-length gown from the Chanel Pre-Fall 2017 collection.

Janelle has always been a fashion risk taker, but this look is a bit of letdown.

Her signature colours of black and white look more like gray here, and the floral accoutrements around her neck should have been removed in order to create a more flattering neckline.
