SUPER-WOMAN-Jada-Pinkett-Smith-for-The-EDIT_EditCover

Jada Pinkett Smith, who is playing a bad-girl villain in the upcoming ‘Gotham’, is the latest cover star for Net-A-Porter’s ‘The Edit’.

The 42 year old – yes, 42 – looks fierce, fabulous and fearless on the cover, donning a super-sleek long-sleeved LBD by The Row, and inside she continues to be a knockout in luxury labels like Saint Laurent, Victoria Beckham and Narciso Rodriguez, which gets me excited about her promo tour. She tends to wear colour, but when promoting this darker character, will she opt for muted tones?

In her interview, Jada opens up about her marriage to Will Smith, her kids, and more.

You can read some extracts below or read Jada’s full interview over at ‘The Edit’, where you can also shop the editorial.

On how she stays in shape: “As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned that it’s about being physical every day. You don’t have to go to the gym if that’s not your thing. You can go outside your door and walk around your block… I feel like as I’ve gotten older, I look better than ever and I work out less. I’m never in the gym for [more than] 45 minutes.”

On femininity: “It’s really tough. I feel like the connection to the value of women on a bigger scale has decreased tremendously. Even though you look and go, ‘Women have so many opportunities,’ it’s like, ‘Yeah, but at what cost?’ Are women valued for being women, or are women valued when they have more masculine qualities? Men and women encompass both female and masculine energies, but it seems like when the feminine is present, it’s not respected.”

On her marriage:
“We used to have all these rules [but] as you go on in your relationship, you just get into a flow. The thing I love is being in a place where it’s just like, Will, to me encompasses everything. It’s almost as if calling him ‘my husband’ is too small of a word for what he means in my life – and especially how I feel we, as women, identify the idea of a husband. I really had to mature and expand that. I think I had a very stuck idea of what a husband looks like, what a wife should be. Once I broke all of that, a whole new world opened for me and man oh man, I got to see him in all his glory. And so that’s what it’s evolved into. And I’m just ecstatic about it.

Jada Pinkett Smith In Cushnie et Ochs - 'Gotham' Comic-Con Press Line

Jada Pinkett Smith attended the ‘Gotham’ press line during Comic-Con International 2014 held at Hilton Bayfront on Saturday (July 26) in San Diego, California.

With a bat as a prop, the actress showed off her toned body wearing a Cushnie et Ochs bralet and cut-out skirt.

While I am a huge fan of Cushnie et Ochs’ sexy cut-out designs, sexy doesn’t spring to mind when looking at Jada here.

Even for Comic-Con, this is just a little too much. Had this been Willow I probably wouldn’t have batted an eyelid, but it just feels so inappropriate on Jada.

Black Manolo Blahnik ‘Platee’ sandals completed her look.

Jada Pinkett Smith In Cushnie et Ochs - 2014 Summer Television Critics Association

Jada Pinkett Smith was on the ‘Gotham’ panel during the FOX Network portion of the 2014 Summer Television Critics Association held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday (July 20) in Beverly Hills, California.

When you think of sexy cut-out dresses you think of Cushnie et Ochs, and that is exactly where this maroon halter mini dress hails from.

Aptly titled – the Power dress – her mini features a high round neck, darting at the bust, sharp, dramatic cut work at the sides and a flounce mini skirt with tonal gussets.

I am absolutely hypnotized by the rich colour of this Pre-Fall 2014 dress against Jada’s caramel skin, with sleek tresses and cream Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudist’ sandals rounding out her look.

JadaPinkettSmithInVersaceOscars2014

Jada Pinkett Smith hit the red carpet on Sunday (March 2) at the 2014 Oscars, hosted at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.

The actress looked radiant in a dusty pink gown by Atelier Versace.

Jada jumped on the pastel trend in a rosy gown with a trifecta of details: an elongating halter neck, sexy slit, and dramatic train. The draping of the design was beautiful, feminine and incredibly sleek.

Jada completed her Oscars style with perfectly straight locks and dress-matching pink-hued makeup.

I say this is a sartorial win.

'After Earth' Premiere At Ziegfeld Theatre

The entire Smith family were out in full force to celebrate the ‘After Earth’ premiere starring Jaden Smith and Will Smith, which was held at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City yesterday evening.

Trey and Jaden opted for all-black and all-white suits respectively, while Will opted for a bright-red three-piece suit with a white-shirt-black-tie combo.

Jaden looked uber cool; not many could pull off an all-white look. Trey looked very dapper, while Will’s look doesn’t work for me. It’s the styling which lets him down, as other men have worn red suits before with greater success.

As for the ladies, Willow continues to tone things down, keeping things simple wearing a black-and-white collared jumpsuit, while Jada, like Will, opted for something more colourful, wearing a Blumarine Fall 2013 floral mini dress with a petal shaped skirt which she styled with a pink Jimmy Choo clutch and red-and-white Alaia suede-and-stingray caged strappy sandals.

Willow Smith In Chanel & Jada Pinkett Smith In Alexander McQueen - 15th Annual From Slavery to Freedom Gala

While the boys are away in Asia, Jada Pinkett Smith and daughter Willow Smith attended the Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking 15th Annual From Slavery to Freedom Event held at Sofitel Hotel in Los Angeles, California yesterday evening.

There is a lot going on here that I don’t like.

Willow Smith: The young singer, who has had more misses than hits, wore a Chanel Spring 2013 jumpsuit which we have seen twice before on Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Miley Cyrus. The problem here is that she is way too short for the look; the pants are dragging on the floor, so you only get a peek at her Christian Louboutin ‘Manovra’ slingback pumps. The cropped jacket is a cute addition, as is the hat, but that blonde wig is ridiculous.

Jada Pinkett Smith: After burning myself on a recent trip to Portugal I should feel some sympathy for Jada, but I don’t. That orange over-tanned glow and her well-tailored peachy-coloured Alexander McQueen suit with satin trims do not go well together.
