Menswear Red Carpet Roundup

The men didn’t take a break this weekend either, with the 2017 Toronto Film Festival summoning many of them to the red carpet—plus a few other occasions.

Bill Skarsgard: At the ‘It’ Stockholm premiere, Bill wore a tweedy, printed Bottega Veneta suit that he enhanced with the deep navy dress shirt. I just wish he had buttoned the top button of his jacket.

Alan Cumming: At the ‘Battle of the Sexes’ TIFF premiere on Sunday (September 10), Alan showed off his quirky style in a Stella McCartney double-breasted pinstriped suit. The tapered pants didn’t really do the look any favours, and I generally have the same reaction to men’s platform shoes as I do to women’s—being.

Aubrey Drake Graham: At ‘The Carter Effect’ TIFF premiere on Saturday (September 9), the entertainer dressed up in a Prada ensemble that was emboldened by its aubergine palette.

The femmes have been joined by the fellows at a variety of red-carpet occasions this past week.

Dylan Minnette: Alongside the ladies at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Grants Banquet on Wednesday (August 2), Dylan impressed in an Ermenegildo Zegna aubergine suit styled with a patterned paisley shirt. His patent shoes ensured a trendy, youthful finish.

Idris Elba: After his last style-forward outing, ‘The Dark Tower’ actor took a more basic turn in a Burberry polo shirt and slacks for an appearance on ‘Despierta America’ on Wednesday (August 2) in Miami. The slightly mismatched navy hues between the shirt and pants had me colour-correcting this ensemble in my head.

Jeremy Renner: Jeremy continued in fine form when he joined Elizabeth Olsen for the ‘Wind River’ screening in New York. This navy suit was all about sharp, precise formality and polish.

‘The Dark Tower’ New York Premiere Red Carpet Roundup

Camila Alves wasn’t the only one at the New York premiere of ‘The Dark Tower’ on Monday (July 31).

Matthew McConaughey: Packing plenty of colourful attitude, Matthew embraced the glories of an aubergine suit styled with a navy tie and mahogany dress shoes. I just wish the tailoring had been a bit more precises, especially around the sleeves, as the look held so much potential.

Idris Elba: I’m not sure the cropped, racing-stripe khakis would have been my go-to pick for this Gucci ensemble that likewise featured an embellished, military-style jacket and matching loafers. But, they did contribute a certain sartorial playfulness. You have to love his willingness to step outside the style box.

Katheryn Winnick: Romance was alive and well in this Marchesa Resort 2018 floral gown that I loved for its darkly vibrant femininity, further elevated by Katheryn’s sleekly complementary styling.

Oh how I love it when the fellas bring some colour to the red carpet.

Michael B. Jordan: Never one shy away from a challenge when it comes to style and colour, the ‘Creed’ star kicked off his promo tour on Jimmy Fallon last night in impeccable style wearing a Vivienne Westwood MAN rust-hued suit. I love how the Westwood print shirt dials down the formality of the look, while raising Michael’s profile as one of the sharpest dressed male stars on the red carpet/planet. Tom Hiddleston finally has some competition. Some might find the Louboutins too matchy, but black or navy would’ve killed the look. This is head to toe perfection for me.

Zachary Quinto: The actor attended the 2015 CNN Heroes: All-Star tribute wearing a Louis Vuitton suit. I really like how the striped tie and glasses gives this look a geek chic vibe.

Josh Hutcherson: For Monday nights ‘Mockingjay Part 2’ LA premiere, the handsome leading man wore a iridescent burgundy Z Zegna sharply tailored suit. While I’m not sure about the waxy sheen of his tie, the tricolour ribbons attached to his Mockingjay pin was a lovely touch.

2015 Oscars & Vanity Fair Party Menswear Red Carpet Roundup

Oscar men

The men were out in force at the 2015 Oscars and the 2015 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, where there was plenty of handsome inspiration to go around from a fine group of fellows.

Jared Leto: Getting the evening started on a non-traditional note, the actor and musician was every bit the unorthodox Academy Awards dresser in his baby-blue Givenchy tux, accented by a white bowtie and white lug sole shoes. He let his hair down literally and made no excuses for it, saying that the Oscars was his going-away party for his locks. I wonder if the beard was also included in that party. While no one could pull this off like Jared, between the mane and the male pastels, this was verging on almost too much too handle.

Chris Pine: A stark contrast to Jared, Chris went for the all-out traditionally classic route and suited up in a Giorgio Armani black double-breasted peak-lapel tuxedo. It was impeccable and goes to show what transformative power a well-tailored tux can have.

David Oyelowo: Looking as if he was inspired by the red carpet itself, the ‘Selma’ actor dressed to impress in a crimson Dolce & Gabbana three-piece tuxedo word with #TackleEbola handcrafted pin by Jason of Beverly Hills. He does a great job pulling off this colour, yet I’m not completely sold on the satiny look of the vest and bowtie underneath.

2014 Emmy Awards Menswear Red Carpet Roundup

2014 Emmy Awards Menswear Red Carpet Roundup

While the constellation of actresses on the scene at the 2014 Emmy Awards had all of us focused on the range of red-carpet gowns and glam, there was plenty more eye candy to be had with the men in the mix at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California on Monday night (August 25).

Matthew McConaughey: Not one to ever be a shrinking violet, the ‘True Detective’ actor and nominee suited up in a bold blue Dolce & Gabbana three-piece suit with contrasting black lapels, paired with Christian Louboutin ‘New Orleans’ flats, and a Bulgari watch and cufflinks. Was it my favourite look of his? Perhaps not. It even drew ‘A Night at the Roxbury’ comparisons among the Twitter-verse. But, with that handsome gaze, he can pull off anything.

Aaron Paul: The ‘Breaking Bad’ Emmy winner couldn’t have accepted his trophy in more classic fashion. He wore top-to-toe Prada in a black kid-mohair tuxedo, with a two-button notch-lapel design and velvet trim on the collar. A white smoking silk shirt, black bowtie and black spazzolato lace-up shoes, plus a Bulgari timepiece, completed the look.

Ty Burrell: Channeling his own blue mood, the ‘Modern Family’ Emmy winner wore a custom Todd Snyder tuxedo that was made especially for his big night. The Italian wool design was a collaborative effort between Ty, his stylist, Ilaria Urbinati, and the designer and boasts a unique shade of blue called ‘dusk,’ which nicely updates the tux from the more standard colourways of black and navy.
