Michelle Williams In Louis Vuitton – 2017 Oscars

Michelle Williams joined the star-studded list at the 2017 Oscars on Sunday (February 26) in Hollywood, California.

I had high hopes for the actress who we knew would be dressed in a Louis Vuitton design. And, she was.

But something about this tied halter gown just fell a bit flat—and a bit long in the skirt that puddled on the ground.

Her platinum pixie cut and mauve-rose makeup was a pretty way to finish the look, even if it didn’t remedy its lacklustre nature.

Chrissy Teigen In Zuhair Murad Couture – 2017 Oscars

Chrissy Teigen wowed on the red carpet of the 2017 Oscars on Sunday night (February 26).

The model and wife of nominee John Legend wore a Zuhair Murad Spring 2017 Couture gown with dazzling accessories.

Chrissy is never one to shy away from a ‘moment’, and it’s safe to say she’s giving us one tonight. I am in love with all the smart details of this gown. The bodice and sleeve peek-a-boo fabric, the ‘firework’ print created with crystals, even the belt is completely inspired.

I’m giving a big virtual high-five to Chrissy for this look–are you as into it as I am?

Kirsten Dunst In Christian Dior Couture – 2017 Oscars

Kirsten Dunst attended the 2017 Oscars on Sunday (February 26) in Hollywood, California.

Another ode to glamour in spades, the actress was lovely in a black Christian Dior Couture high-low gown that riffed on the design house’s New Look silhouette from the ’40s.

Frosted with diamond jewels including a necklace from Niwaka, the dress was likewise finished with a softer, romantic air in her relaxed updo with its curled tendrils.

Karlie Kloss In Stella McCartney – 2017 Oscars

Karlie Kloss was also in attendance at the 2017 Oscars on Sunday (February 26) in Hollywood, California.

The supermodel abided by her minimalist mantra and wore a Stella McCartney gown that achieved more striking presence with the cape detailing.

With a blue ribbon in support of ACLU pinned to her side, she also styled the look with a Roger Vivier Boite de Nuit Bracelet bag and Nirav Modi jewels

Given the high neckline and silhouette of the dress, the choker might have been a bit overkill.

Taraji P. Henson In Alberta Ferretti – 2017 Oscars

Taraji P. Henson made a striking turn down the 2017 Oscars on Sunday (February 26) in Hollywood, California.

Fierce took on new meaning with her midnight-sapphire Alberta Ferretti gown iced with a Nirav Modi bib necklace and a Jimmy Choo ‘Cloud’ clutch.

I love how the dark dress—seemingly black at first glance—had additional dimension by virtue of its hue.

From the perfect, off-the-shoulder plunge neckline to the just-high-enough slit, not to mention her voluminous, wavy bob and seductive smoky-navy eye, here we had another look that exuded a modern call to old Hollywood glam.

Head-turning and magnetic, this entrance saw Taraji at her gorgeous best.

Janelle Monae In Elie Saab Couture – 2017 Oscars

As we expected, Janelle Monae made a grand entrance at the 2017 Oscars on Sunday (February 26) in Hollywood, California.

Channeling the metallic mood she set at the Pre-Oscar Awards dinner, she wore an Elie Saab Fall 2016 Couture masterwork accessorized with Forevermark Diamonds.

Brimming with the intricacy of sparkling embellishment, a period silhouette, and a flock of the most fashionable birds, the gown took flight with all the drama we’d anticipate from Janelle, but with an all-new spirit that stepped outside her graphic, black-and-white box.

She even skipped her signature red lip and styled her hair into a precious, Jennifer Behr headband-topped pixie for another layer of fresh intrigue.

This could have translated as a heavy, overly wrought look but she commanded it with such lightness of form.

It took my breath away.

Auli’i Cravalho In Rubin Singer – 2017 Oscars

Actress Auli’i Cravalho attended the 2017 Oscars on Sunday night (February 26).

The ‘Moana’ actress wore an art deco inspired Rubin Singer Pre-Fall 2017 gown with a white box clutch and gold and diamond jewels.

As a first-timer at the Oscars, Auli’i totally knocked it out of the park for me. At just 16-year-old, the gown is fittingly elegant for the occasion, but also youthful and fun with it’s structural detailing.

Her long, soft curls, and fresh makeup and mani complete a wonderful first turn on the biggest red carpet in Hollywood.

Leslie Mann In Zac Posen – 2017 Oscars

Leslie Mann was also at the 2017 Oscars on Sunday (February 26) in Hollywood, California.

There’s no question that vivacious colour on the red carpet, such as this chartreuse hue, makes a striking impact—especially when rendered in voluminous quantity.

Despite the rather outsized proportions of this Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2017 gown with its mega-pouf, parachute skirt that could easily look deflated, she managed it with radiance and a smile.

Yet, still that sea of fabric can be a challenge to wade through, leaving something to be desired. Sometimes dresses are better left to the lookbook.

Thoughts?
